A proficient marksman and unarmed combatant, Jango Fett was covered in a sleek armored suit that featured an arsenal of weaponry, including retractable wrist blades, dual blaster pistols and a harnessed jetpack to gain the advantage of speed and height over his enemies. About a decade prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars, a man named Tyranus approached Jango on the moons of Bogden with an intriguing proposal. In exchange for a sizable fee, Jango Fett would become the template of a clone army.

When Gentle Giant Ltd. first developed the Mini Bust line in 2002, it seemed as if they didn’t have a completely solidified plan of how to execute the line. The first “wave” of Mini Busts (again, all released in 2002) were “busts” in the truest sense in that they were bisections of the character from the waist up and without arms. But after the first year, Gentle Giant Ltd. added a new twist to the line and began adding arms. This stylized approached not only made their interpretation of what a Mini Bust should be very unique, it was a step in a direction that really satisfied collectors. After five years since the line’s inception, Gentle Giant Ltd. saw it fit to revisit Jango Fett, a character that was one of the first half dozen released. A half a decade brought about a great new interpretation of the character that was enhanced from new and improved technology and a lot more attention to the finest of details. Jango Fett may not have the popularity or even the staying power of son Boba Fett, but he has maintained a consistent following throughout the years Typically ever collectible of this character is a strong seller. The Mini Bust interpretation of him is no exception. While the first Mini Bust from 2002 was limited to 2500 pieces, the 2007 flavor gets an edition size of 9000 units. That is a significant difference. And if you’re looking for both versions of Jango Fett, you’ll need to buy both versions of Mini Busts since they each have a unique jetpack.

Instead of just revisiting the first version of Jango Fett in a new light, Gentle Giant Ltd. decided to develop the version of Jango Fett from the earlier scenes in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. The first Mini Bust of Jango Fett was inspired from The Battle of Geonosis, while the second 2007 version is based on Jango Fett from his battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Kamino (or perhaps more accurately and interpretive version of that sequence in the film). We believe the new and improved Jango Fett is quite a step up from the earlier 2002 version. But it may not get a perfect score by all Mini Bust collectors. Please understand that Jango Fett is a triumphant upgrade, but we question why Gentle Giant Ltd. approached some of the details in the way that they did. For example, why are Jango’s helmet and gauntlets finished in chrome? And why does this version with the Mitronomon Z-6 jetpack come with an interchangeable human likeness portrait of him? The only time we see him without his helmet is when he is wearing the JT-12 (by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc.) during the Battle of Geonosis. His entire encounter with Obi-Wan Kenobi is done so while wearing his Mandalorian helmet. We’re nitpicking obviously, but we really like to see authenticity employed at any cost. Gentle Giant Ltd. often gets too liberal with artistic license in the Mini Bust line. We prefer screen accuracy at any cost because there aren’t too many additional chances to revisit the characters in this line.

We have fallen in total love with the human portrait of Jango Fett. Gentle Giant Ltd. has proven once again that they have the incredible skill to replicate human likenesses when they want to do so. The head sculpt looks exactly like Temura Morrison. Exactly. We don’t take this achievement likely because there are sometimes characters in the Mini Bust line that end up looking nothing like the actors who played the characters. We are impressed with how well the likeness of Jango Fett came out. We’re also impressed with the helmeted head sculpt as well. We just wish it wasn’t done in chrome because that is not an authentic look for Jango Fett. Both head attachments attach via strong magnets in the neck and head post. It’s a very strong attraction and we would recommend being extra careful when switching out the head sculpts because you don’t want to scratch the paint even if it isn’t visible when the heads are attached. Jango Fett has no other alternate parts other than the interchangeable heads. His posture has a very western feel to it, but obviously that makes sense since he spun his blaster like a cowboy in the Wild West during the Battle of Geonosis is Episode II. So it goes without saying that the stature of the Mini Bust is very appropriate. Overall, we’re very thrilled with how well this piece came out. We think that interchangeable jetpacks would have been the best solutions to get every Episode II iteration of Jango Fett in one Mini Bust, but that wasn’t planned. You should still consider the Mini Bust anyway. It’s done very well.
