Myo spends a lot of time in the Mos Eisley cantina, hoping to get into a fight. His species, the Abyssin from the planet Byss, are primitive, violent and can re-grow lost limbs. Myo is very fearless and with his one central eye, he can spot trouble as it is about to happen – when he isn’t finding a way to cause it.

If there has been one cantina alien high on our own wish lists for years, it would have to be Myo. Thankfully Hasbro made us wait several years in a more developed basic figure lineup so they could scale him accurately and increase the number of articulation points and reduce or prevent the likelihood that he would age out and become obsolete. Myo has been done very impressively for sure. The head sculpt is another triumph of Hasbro’s and the rest of the figure is excellent too. Myo is one of the troublemakers at Chalmun’s Cantina. This is evident with the expression on his face. This doesn’t look like a character you’d want to mess with in a random space bar. Every detail from his single centered eye to the hairs on his head are impressively executed. And the greatness doesn’t stop there. His outfit is brilliantly sculpted equally as well. His costume definitely has a “retro space monster” feel to it, but it looks right at home with the rest of the hive of scum and villainy that patronize the bar in Mos Eisley.

Myo comes with an impressive 12 points of articulation. Granted, not too many of his articulation points are ball-jointed, but it seems that the articulation Hasbro did decide to give the action figure complements it very well. Our biggest grief is focused on the swivel elbows, but just like his wave mates, the arms are articulated in a way that befit their role as bar drinkers in the film. His accessories include a blaster (which fits nicely in his functioning holster) and a bar glass filled with an odd blue liquid (but to be clear not blue milk) that he can hold remarkably well despite the glass’ thick circumference. He is in perfect proportion with the rest of the figure’s in the wave so we’re very happy to see Hasbro pay close attention to these aesthetically pleasing details. Although Myo can’t be seen all too well in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, there have been a few clear reference images which have given Star Wars fans a pretty good idea just what he looks like.

The 2005 The [Post] Original Trilogy Collection offerings are quite impressive. It’s a crying shame that the characters from the Original Trilogy specifically couldn’t have made it in time for the official 2004 OTC lineup. It’s certainly not the end of the world. The packaging is relatively identical. And aside from the removal of the words “The Original Trilogy Collection” and a new 2005 numbering convention, the line is essentially seamless. Even the first wave of Prequel Trilogy figures from The Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones look fantastic in the silver and black line look. The scenes behind where the figures stand look amazing and the vintage Kenner name plates just seal the deal for fans of the early days. Myo is truly a fine representative from the very first Star Wars film A New Hope. It is our hope that Hasbro continues to crank out excellent sculpts like this for the future and continue to pay homage to that very special era between 1978 and 1985. It’s truly what has inspired the neo classic era to last as long as it has.
