Is it possible that Star Wars fans will never tire of the bounty hunters from the classic scenes in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back? That question may be rhetorical quite honestly. Perhaps we should have just asked whether Star Wars fans will ever get tired of Star Wars? It’s almost a silly question, isn’t it? The bounty hunters throughout the Original Trilogy films, not just Episode V, typically don’t have the largest roles or the longest dialogues/lines in the films – if they even speak at all for that matter! But the sheer mystery surrounding them created by not knowing and learning much from the films is truly the power to what makes them such treasured commodities in the Star Wars franchise. Each one looks different from the next and they all have a diverse background that’s as unique as their respective looks and species. Yet each time a collectible is made based on them, it’s almost as if we’re seeing them for the first time over and over again. That really can’t be said of that many Star Wars characters and it’s a testament to just how amazing they are as characters. And it’s what makes them so special that they don’t lose there luster over time.

Bossk is a Trandoshan bounty hunter that hates Wookiees. It would have been sublime to see him give Chewbacca a little bit of attitude to Bespin (or somewhere within Episode V), but that wasn’t in the cards sadly. We learned about their nasty nature in various Expanded Universe sources. But in the films we don’t see much more than Bossk giving an Imperial a threatening snarl on the Executor bridge. Bossk is a scaly reptilian bounty hunter who has the luxury of growing lost limbs should he lose one in battle. A successful bounty hunter, Bossk was on of six bounty hunters commissioned by Darth Vader to find the location of the Millennium Falcon. He was outwitted by Boba Fett, the most notorious bounty hunter of them all. Bossk wore a yellow flight suit (essentially an X-wing pilot’s uniform but yellow of course). His arms and legs remained uncovered showing off his extremely dry and scaly skin. The Kenner action figure from 1980 led us to believe his skin was a dark tan, but stills from the film and some of the high-end collectibles made of him actually show there to be quite a bit of green color mixed in as well.

The Bossk Mini Bust is another excellent release by Gentle Giant Ltd. We have said for years that Gentle Giant Ltd. is much more successful in nailing the likenesses to aliens over humans (isn’t that the way it always goes?) in the Mini Bust line and Bossk is no exception. This Mini Bust is extremely impressive and we’re thrilled with the final product. He is snarling and is showing his razor sharp teeth. His eyes are perfectly painted and his head and upper body are cocked with threatening posture (obviously at a local Imperial) and warning. He has his large blaster rifle at the ready and Gentle Giant Ltd. was kind enough to include a “soft-goods” rifle strap and believe it or not something this simple adds a nice amount of authenticity to the Mini Bust. The paint job is phenomenal. His flight suit has the insignias on both shoulders and the “bib” has the perfect amount of texture, detail and off white color – it couldn’t be better. Bossk is limited to 5000 pieces like so many of the Mini Busts are from the 2004 era, so you should be able to grab him for your collection with ease. Be sure to consider this piece. It’s a fine version of Bossk and we love it.
