Clone trooper armor is marked with color-coded flashes. At the beginning of the Clone Wars, the colors signify rank (red for captains, blue for lieutenants, green for sergeants). By the end of the war, the flashes come to identify specialized units such as the Galactic Marines and Shock Troopers.

If you could designate any of the clones from Episode II as getting the shaft the most, it would undoubtedly be the Clone Trooper Officer [Sergeant]. He was always last on Hasbro’s agenda to make into 3.75” scale. And let’s face it, were it not for the Entertainment Earth Clone Trooper 4-Packs, we might as well still be waiting for a super-articulated version even today. Actually, that’s not true at all. Hasbro (Well, maybe not.) Sure, the Clone Wars line brought us statuesque sergeants in the Clone Trooper Army three-packs, but who really wanted those anyway? Star Wars collectors want super-articulation and accessories not permanently molded to hands. Besides, if a perfectly good super-articulated phase I clone body exists as template for all others, why not utilize the heck out of it? Well, that’s exactly what Hasbro did, just a little bit after the fact. The Entertainment Earth exclusives clones have been revisited for the Saga Legends line (after a few tweaks) and won the Fans’ Choice poll to make the Fans’ Choice stickered figures. And it was a long time coming and we’re so thankful that these quality figures have another chance in the market.

After the Entertainment Earth sets came and went without meeting full demand, fans’ interest was once again piqued with the announcement of 2006’s TSC Clone Trooper Sergeant (SAGA 060) that was part of one of three surprise filler waves as Hasbro geared up for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars in 2007. The figure was inaccurate (the helmet stripe stopped in between the visor and the “mohawk”) but still appreciated since collectors wanted more of them as soon as possible. So now the Clone Trooper Officer [Sergeant] finally sees a rerelease and its part of a running change of figures that are sold in the same packaging and under the same assortment number as the three others: captain, commander and lieutenant. It’s great to have another opportunity to collect the different varieties of the phase I clone trooper again and now that the type of plastic used and the paint operations have also been updated, it makes it all the more worthwhile. This is a great (and corrected) version of the Clone Trooper Officer [Sergeant] figure. It is also one of the most obscure clones in Episode II.

Just like his packaged counterparts, the Clone Trooper Officer [Sergeant] looks fantastic overall, but there is an issue with how thickly the green color flashed run up the front of his helmet. It’s a small drawback when so many other enhancements have been made despite this. The green color denoting him as sergeant is sharply applied and the lines are the cleanest we have ever seen. And isn’t that one of the most important things when deciding if a figure is definitive enough in status for your collection. Many still argue that the Clone Trooper Officer [Sergeant] still have an inaccurate green color. We actually tend to agree, but because they were seen off in the distance in the Kamino cloning facility in Episode II, it’s really hard to judge the screen appearance wholly. Reference materials suggest that the green is more olive in tone that standard green. But again, at 3.75” scale, the exact shade may not be the most important detail. We feel that the [Utapau] Clone Trooper (SAGA 026) from The Saga Collection has a much more glaring color match issue by comparison. Regardless, it goes without saying that this is the best sergeant available to your collection to date. Let’s see if Hasbro can prove us wrong.
