Clone trooper armor is marked with color-coded flashes. At the beginning of the Clone Wars, the colors signify rank (red for captains, blue for lieutenants, green for sergeants). By the end of the war, the flashes come to identify specialized units such as the Galactic Marines and Shock Troopers.

One of the things we were most excited about getting in the 2007 TAC Saga Legends line was the chance to army build so many core troopers from the Star Wars saga. Clone troopers and sandtroopers pretty much stole the show in this line because Hasbro released so many variations of them. One particular clone style however elated collectors very much. The newly dubbed Clone Trooper Officer, although coming in one distinct card back would see three more running changes to include all the ranks of the phase I clone including commanders, captain, lieutenants and sergeants. For their 2007 releases, Hasbro decided that they would be coming in the clean variety and not only did they limit them to this style, they also cleaned up the paint operations to make them as authentic to Episode II as possible. But perhaps more exciting than this is that Hasbro utilized a very bright white plastic to clone these clones making them the best versions to date.

The Clone Trooper Officer [Commander] figure is one of the four clone officials that can be seen clearly during the Battle of Geonosis in the climax of Episode II. That reason alone makes him one of our personal favorites from the film. The bright yellow color flashes against the backdrop of the white plastoid armor is especially eye catching. Yellow is especially visible and the reason why many items like school buses and warning areas are colored in it. It’s a sign of caution and its fitting for the clone commander who leads his troops into battle against the Separatists. In Attack Of The Clones, you can see them directing the generic white clones, communicating with Master Yoda and also battling in the fray of war. They’re memorable and fit the part of the leader quite well. And it’s so ice to know that we have another chance to grab this style of clone after the Entertainment Earth exclusive Clone Trooper sets sold out so quickly.

Hasbro decided to revisit the way that the Clone Trooper Officer [Commander] was approached for the 2007 Saga Legends line. And we’re are certainly glad they did. First and foremost the base plastic used to sculpt the figures is bright white and shows no signs of yellowing. The white plastic is simply gorgeous. So this sterling white palette is met with a revised yellow color flash paint job. The yellow is brighter, the lines are cleaner and the patterns are honestly a bit too thick in spots. But we’ll take this version over all others because it’s easily the best representation of a phase I Clone Commander that your collecting dollars can buy. Sure, we would have loved to see a bit of battle-damage or come carbon-scoring, but this is still the nicest yellow clone you’ll be able to find. A strong winner of the Fans’ Choice poll, the best part is that you can now army build a better version of the Clone Trooper Officer [Commander] that came in the Entertainment Earth sets!
