During the Clone Wars, Count Dooku placed a bounty on the heads of all the members of the Galactic Senate. As most of the senators resided on Coruscant, their protection fell on the shoulders of the famed Coruscant Guard. Their commander, CC-1010 nicknamed Fox led missions to rescue Senator Padme Amidala and protect Shayla Paige-Tarkin. Protecting the senators also meant hunting the bounty hunters; tirelessly chasing Trandoshan hunters and confronting Cad Bane of Duros during a tense hostage situation.

It appears phase I Commander Fox is destined to remain an exclusive with every licensee. Starting off life in collectible form as 2008’s TCW Commander Fox TARGET exclusive in the Hasbro line, Kotobukiya was next in line to produce and ART FX+ exclusive for Action Figure Xpress and more recently Gentle Giant Ltd. released a Mini Bust of Commander Fox in 2011 for Premier Guild Members. Now Sideshow Collectibles takes Commander Fox (Coruscant Guard), a 1:6 Scale Figure and relegates it as 2012’s San Diego Comic Con exclusive. As you probably already expect, collectors tend to be most interested in seeing what Sideshow is able to do with this character since their level of detail is unprecedented and their workmanship is unflawed. The latest in the Militaries Of Star Wars line, Commander Fox (Coruscant Guard) is another wonderful 1:6 Scale Figure that shines with a stunning paint job. Sideshow Collectibles has mastered the Coruscant Guard insignia on the chest armor brilliantly and the remaining red wine color flashes that adorn the rest of his armor are simply beautiful. Commander Fox may be a bit late in Sideshow’s Militaries Of Star Wars line, but we will go to our graves saying late is better than never. And even if The Clone Wars television show is losing some steam, we’re so glad that we can rely on high-end makers of awesome collectibles to keep the flames burning.

Beginning June 14, 2012, Sideshow Collectibles began teasing the announcement of Commander Fox for the 1:6 Scale Figures line until it was ultimately revealed. Then on July 2, 2012 it went up for order as an in-stock item. Commander Fox (Coruscant Guard) is frankly more of the same. If you own any figures in the Militaries Of Star Wars line, you more or less already own a derivation of Commander Fox. But the great thing about Sideshow’s 1:6 Scale Figure line is that although the candidates in Militaries Of Star Wars line that utilize armor will all use the same body type, it’s the artwork that goes on these pieces that make the figures such standout collectibles. Because his phase II armor is so uniquely opposite of his phase I look, Sideshow Collectibles will have to release a completely different second figure to cover that particular version of him. (We hope they knock this version out one day too.) Commander Fox (Coruscant Guard) has a typically excellent paint job. The details of the insignia are simply incredible. There are a ton of fine lines that are extremely close together, yet none of them bleed together (as they did on the Hasbro figure from 2008). On top of the dark red/burgundy/merlot color flashes, Sideshow Collectibles also gave the white parts of his armor great weathering details and an off-white finish. It looks superb. But if you own any other clones in their very impressive line, you’re already used to this awesome treatment they give their figures.

Commander Fox (Coruscant Guard) comes with the standard set of accessories that so many other of their previously released clones do. Actually, it’s becoming a little bit too much to tolerate now. As you know, we’re not entirely crazy with the fact that Sideshow offers so many hand attachments with the Militaries Of Star Wars 1:6 Scale Figures. Some may think we’re crazy making this accusation time and again, but we’d like to see you juggle 13 individual hand attachments, half of which are some of the silliest poses and gestures we could never see our clones making. But that’s us. But it’s certainly not the end of the world to get accessories that add extra versatility to an excellently made 1:6 Scale Figure. It’s just something you have to determine if it’s practical or not. Some of the finer points on Commander Fox (Coruscant Guard) are just as good as the figure itself. The vinyl-like kama is made of the perfect material to allow the figure to be posed in kneeling positions without compromising the aesthetics of the figure. We actually wish that Hasbro would use a similar material for their clones (that wear kamas of course) because of how well it interacts with the figure. A 2012 San Diego Comic Con exclusive, Commander Fox (Coruscant Guard) is another expected, but fun addition to the 1:6 Scale Figure line. We hope more keep coming because they are truly great figures.
