Check Out Yakface.com's Tutorial And Then See An Alternate Method

Posted by Paul | November 28, 2011 at 09:18 PM ET |

Our pals at Yakface.com have put together a fabulous tutorial on how to make the consummate phase II Clone Trooper. They're absolutely correct to criticize the current removable helmet Hasbro uses as being much too bulky and large. Be sure to check out their cool post on what you need to do to make this figure yourself. (It's much easier than it sounds!) While I was reading the post, it inspired me to share what I have been doing as well to make a more palatable phase II clone in my collection without any permanent damage to the figures. Click through for both link's to Yakface.com's tutorial as well as photos of an even easier remedy (and for those who can't spare the thought of even drilling, poking or cutting your babies at all).

The Clone Wars Chewbacca (CW63) Variation?

Posted by Paul | November 27, 2011 at 07:35 PM ET |

We believe we have discovered a variation for The Clone Wars Chewbacca (CW63) figure. Click through to see comparison shots of the figure in our RDRs next to images from Yakface.com's Toyguide and Rebelscum.com's Photo Archives. We all use different lighting and angles when photographing these figures, but it appears that the latest samples (as seen in Rebelscum's Photo Archives) are sporting a new paint job. What do you think?

Wave 24 Of The Clone Wars Line Inundates TARGET!

Posted by Paul | November 27, 2011 at 05:25 PM ET |

We found wave 24 of The Clone Wars line at EVERY single TARGET we visited today. The kicker is that we didn't get there until late today, after lunch time and still the armored version of Savage Opress (CW59) could be found at every location. If you're still in need of this wave and not checking daily at TARGET for it, well, we don't know how much more we can help you out! (Don't ask us about The Vintage Collection however because we found even more new cases of wave 5 with no more signs of wave 8 and 9.... again!)

Review: Carnor Jax/Kir Kanos - TAC - Comic Packs (No. 01)

Posted by Paul | November 27, 2011 at 01:15 AM ET |

If you're about to say that this is the Comic Packs set that started it all, you'd be so wrong. How soon we forget about the two Comic Packs sets we received in 1996 as part of the Shadows Of The Empire line! But the Carnor Jax/Kir Kanos did reintroduce the collecting community to this medium again and Research Droids Reviews discusses the various aspects surrounding it. (It wasn't the best first choice in our opinion.) Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! Review: Rebel Commando [ROTJ] - TVC - VC26

Posted by Paul | November 26, 2011 at 01:10 AM ET |

You probably sweated bullets wondering if this figure was going to be harder to get than Wedge Antilles, but believe it or not, Hasbro came through for collectors with the running change "Revenge Of The Jedi" Rebel Commando. Research Droids Reviews goes into some pretty deep detail to document what's unique about this figure. For example, did you know the camouflage pattern of his trench coat is different? Did you know Hasbro retooled the head of the 2006 TSC figure to make it fit like a glove? Learn about all this and more! Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! eBay Flashback: The Best Wave Of Comic Packs.... EVER!

Posted by Paul | November 25, 2011 at 07:15 PM ET |

One of the best waves of Comic Packs Hasbro EVER produced barely made a splash at retail and ended up becoming the rarest (arriving at retail after months and months of one ridiculous delay after another). In fact, we were only able to find bits and pieces of it at Toys R Us and TARGET (and never a complete full wave at one time). When we posted our initial find here at JTA, it was one of our most popular news articles. And then the reviews we did on these sets are also some of our most popular reviews. The line died a grim death (at the general release level) at the peak of its perfection. The figures were super-articulated (for the most part) and the sculpts were an EU lover's dream. Unfortunately, the second wave of Legacy Collection Comic Packs command unacceptable amounts of money on eBay today. Click through to see what each fetches. Also be sure to check out our revised photo galleries in our reviews to see if these are must-have items (which they are)! (Note: Not all of these sets are immediately available on eBay because they are so rare, but bookmark this page with direct links that will take you to these Comic Packs once they become available.)

Review: Kashyyyk Trooper/Wookiee Warrior - TAC - Comic Packs

Posted by Chuck | November 25, 2011 at 10:15 AM ET |

Before Revenge Of The Sith was released in theaters, comic artists had to rely on other sources (and ideas really) to replicate the battles in the film for the comic book illustrations. As a result, white BARC Troopers on Kashyyyk battling alongside Wookiees were brought to life in the pages of the comics instead of the camouflaged Elite Corps Clone Troopers from the film. And Hasbro captured this forever in a Comic Packs set! Check it out in our Research Droids Reviews today! Please feel free to leave your own comments in our comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Boba Fett/RA-7 Droid - TAC - Comic Packs (Exclusive)

Posted by Chuck | November 24, 2011 at 08:46 AM ET |

We're thankful for many things: family, friends, employment and of course our Star Wars collection. And one item we're especially thankful for from Hasbro is the Boba Fett/RA-7 Droid Comic Packs set. This set contains a totally fun and entertaining version of Boba Fett and you'll probably forget he's paired with an inferior 1998 repainted figure. Check out this product in our Research Droids Reviews and hopefully we can make you thankful for it too!! eBay Flashback: SDCC Revenge of the Jedi Death Star Exclusive Set

Posted by Chuck | November 21, 2011 at 11:13 PM ET |

Well, it's been a few months now since the chaotic release of the SDCC Exclusive Revenge of the Jedi Death Star II set. We thought it might be time to see if prices have come down to Tatooine a bit. If you are still in the hunt for this set I don't think the prices will get much lower. Considering the set sold for $129.99, and what it would have cost for you to go to SDCC to get it and mail it back, you may find the price to not be too bad. The completed auctions seem to be hovering in the mid $200 range. Click here to see the latest on this set, and make sure to stop by our full Research Droids Review to see if we think this set is worth the cost (and the wait).

Wave 5 Crippling Retail Availability Of The Vintage Collection

Posted by Paul | November 20, 2011 at 09:32 PM ET |

Oh the irony! Just as Hasbro successfully cleared out all of the Sandtroopers and Clone Troopers from the shelves of many stores to help distribution speed up, it's actually becoming counterproductive as more of the wrong waves (wave 5 specifically) including Sandtroopers and this time the yellowed 212th Battalion Clone Troopers (along with other figures that all of us had plenty of opportunity to pick up) clog shelves once again. There is now nothing but pegs drowning with wave 5 at every single TARGET in the Philly area now. (Walmart has been swimming in these since the summer.) What the heck?

Enough Already With Wave 5!

Posted by Paul | November 17, 2011 at 07:49 PM ET |

Hasbro - please stop sending wave 5 to TARGET and Walmart. We need wave 8 and 9 instead. Please don't make cleaning off the pegs moot by cluttering them up again with the least impressive wave in the entire The Vintage Collection. You loaded Walmart's floor displays with it and now your stocking this wave on the pegs. We don't need any more incorrect Han Solo (Yavin Ceremony), Build A Droid R5-D4 or yellow 212th Attack Battalion clone action figures... among many other carried forward figures ANYMORE!

JTA reader Chad asked to see a comparison shot of 2010's TVC Boba Fett (TESB) next to the newly available 2011 TVC Boba Fett (ROTJ). Please note that the Boba Fett on the left is the first issue TESB version and not the corrected version with the enhanced paint job. Boba Fett (TESB) is a repaint of the 2008 Evolutions figure and Boba Fett (ROTJ) is a repaint of the 2004 VOTC figure. Click through for more!

eBay Flashback: Scramble On Yavin Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | November 12, 2011 at 02:59 PM ET |

Probably one of the top three greatest Battle Packs of all time was 2009's The Legacy Collection Scramble On Yavin set. With an awesome red and black R5 unit, Garven Dreis and the unbelievable speeder with Ground Crew technician, it's a must have for every collection. It wasn't necessarily rare when it was originally released, but it's highly sought after today. Only 50% of it got reissued in the "Shadow Of The Dark Side" line this year as a TRU exclusive. Can you finish up the pieces you're missing by resorting to eBay? It may be easier than you think. Check out the available auctions for this wonderful Battel Packs set!

Found! TCW Wave 24 Returns To Retail.... At Toys R Us This Time!

Posted by Paul | November 12, 2011 at 01:58 PM ET |

Those of you desperately searching high and low for the armored version of Savage Opress, Even Piell and Chewbacca, try checking out your local Toys R Us. Three of the stores in the Philly area alone had one case each of wave 24. This wave also contains the first Build A Droid in The Clone Wars line R7-D4 and a second chance at Jar Jar Binks! Click through for proof.

We are happy to report that we found "most of" wave 8 of The Vintage Collection in multiple Philadelphia-area Kmarts this morning. Nowhere to be found however are the "Revenge" versions of Princess Leia (Slave Outfit), Stormtrooper and the black variant of the Rebel Commando. We also couldn't find multiple "Return" versions of the figures that make up this wave either including Darth Vader for example. It appears as if the remix case of wave 8 has not hit retail as of yet. Your mileage may vary of course. Click through for proof. We'd say Hasbro mismanaged this chase promotion very badly. It's November for heaven's sake and we're now just barely seeing this stuff.

Review: Quinlan Vos/Vilmarh Grahrk - TAC - Comic Packs (No. 05)

eBay Flashback: 4-LOM (Vintage Versus Modern Compare)

Posted by Chuck | November 10, 2011 at 03:32 PM ET |

Today we look at the flip side of our article from earlier this week. This time, we look at how the Vintage 4-LOM compares to the modern... 4-LOM. Since Hasbro has not yet released 4-LOM's replacement Zuckuss in the regular line, we'll see how he compares to the Celebration V exclusive, where Hasbro paid homage to the Vintage 'mistake'. Find out which one will hurt your wallet more... the "Vintage" version or the Modern version.

Death Star Trench Run Is Flying Off Of Shelves

Posted by Paul | November 10, 2011 at 09:53 AM ET |

This post is not intended to incite panic on the part of our readers and depending upon what area you live your mileage will certainly vary, but Toys R Us' promotional price of the Death Star Trench Run to $79.99 is really moving the product. At three of my local TRU stores there was a skid of them that was significantly taller than me (and I am over 6' tall) and there were less than 5 units left (or less) at each store as of yesterday. While there has certainly been plenty of grumbling about this set, there is no denying just how awesome the updates to the X-wing fighter are. If you need some additional information on this set to help make your decision, check out our full gallery and review on this cool exclusive HERE. It's quite possible this item won't make it to the clearance racks.

Review: Luke Skywalker/R2-D2 - TAC - Comic Packs (No. 06)

Posted by Paul | November 10, 2011 at 01:25 AM ET |

The Marvel-inspired Comic Packs started off rough, but the one featured in Research Droids Reviews today is one fine exception. A super-articulated animated verison of Luke Skywalker and a very white R2-D2 make up this two-pack and it's aged wondefully since its original release. As a reminder, we will be focusing on the remaining Comic Packs we haven't knocked out yet during the month of November to help kill some time before the new 2012 product year hits! Review: Governor Tarkin/Stormtrooper - TAC - Comic Packs (No. 03)

Posted by Paul | November 08, 2011 at 01:10 AM ET |

Since there is little to no new product coming for the rest of the year (with very few exceptions), Research Droids Reviews will be focusing on the remaining Comic Packs we haven't knocked out yet during the month of November (and we'll be throwing in some random things in between as well). Check out another set that was available at brick and mortar prior to the official launch of the 30 (77-07) line, but be forewarned that this may be the weakest of all the Marvel inspired Comic Packs Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! You can also send your own personal review requests via e-mail if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

Darth Vader Helmet Art Contest!

Posted by Paul | November 07, 2011 at 06:55 PM ET |

In the spirit of The Darth Vader Project, HalloweenCostumes.com selected 25 artists to create an original art piece using an authentic replica Darth Vader helmet for the Darth Vader Helmet Art Contest. Winners will be chosen on November 30, 2011, and the top three winners will each receive a cash prize. The helmets will then be auctioned off to benefit local Minnesota charities, The Midwest Art Catalyst and The Miracle League of North Mankato. Details of the auction are TBD. Click through for more!

We have another neo-classic figure to compare against the modern The Vintage Collection figure, this time Anakin Skywalker (Peasant Disguise). As usual, the question is which version will hurt your wallet more. The answer should be obvious, right? Will it be the "Vintage" version or the Modern version?

Review: Chewbacca/Han Solo - TAC - Comic Packs (No. 04)

Posted by Paul | November 07, 2011 at 08:49 AM ET |

Since there is little to no new product for the rest of the year (with very few exceptions), Research Droids Reviews will be focusing on the remaining Comic Packs we haven't knocked out yet during the month of November (and we'll be throwing in some random things in between as well). Check out another set that was available at brick and mortar prior to the official launch of the 30 (77-07) line and it contained the first super-articulated version of Han Solo in stormtrooper disguise! Do you own both versions of it though? Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! eBay Flashback: Zuckuss/4-LOM (Vintage Versus Modern Compare)

Posted by Chuck | November 06, 2011 at 10:15 PM ET |

Whether you are old school or new school, you likely know how the Vintage Zuckuss compares to the Modern 4-LOM. Hasbro decided to fix this very old error when they released Zuckuss as the new-and-improved 4-LOM. So, now we get one of the few modern updates that doesn't quite match its Vintage carded counterpart, unless you count the Celebration V exclusive, where Hasbro treated fans to the real Vintage Zuckuss. So, just how does it compare? Check out how the "Vintage" version stacks up to the Modern version...

Review: Darth Vader/Rebel Officer - TAC - Comic Packs (No. 02)

Posted by Paul | November 06, 2011 at 02:05 AM ET |

Since there is little to no new product for the rest of the year (with very few exceptions), Research Droids Reviews will be focusing on the remaining Comic Packs we haven't knocked out yet during the month of November. Check out the first set that was available at brick and mortar prior to the official launch of the 30 (77-07) line! Do you own both versions of it though? Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Bom Vimdin has drank way too much at Chalmun's Cantina and is making up stories to the other patrons at the bar. He obviously can't remember some facts about his existence (or lack thereof) in the toy line. We need you to straighten out these facts about him for us. Click through for MISSION #5 and if you successfully complete it, you'll have your very own Bom Vimdin action figure to keep better tabs on him. (And we don't mean "bar tabs".)

Continuing our look at how the classic Vintage vs. modern The Vintage Collection figures stack up, we take a look at collector favorite Han Solo (Bespin Outfit). This is usually a very requested figure by most collectors. The question however is which version will hurt your wallet more. The answer should be obvious, right? Will it be the Vintage version or the Modern version?

eBay Flashback: ARC Trooper ("Vintage" Versus Modern Compare)

Posted by Chuck | November 03, 2011 at 03:02 PM ET |

Today's Vintage vs. Modern figure matchup pits the original ARC Trooper from 2003 against The Vintage Collection's ARC Trooper Commander. It's interesting to note that the red version from 2003 was a last minute running change and commanded high prices on the secondary market. Has that price come down? Click below to see which version will hurt your wallet more... Will it be the "Vintage" version or the Modern version?

eBay Flashback: Wedge Antilles ("Vintage" Versus Modern Compare)

Posted by Paul | November 02, 2011 at 12:48 PM ET |

Continuing our look at how the classic Vintage vs. modern The Vintage Collection figures stack up, we take a look at Wedge Antilles. You of course know that Wedge was never made in the Kenner vintage line, but we're treating his first basic carded release, the StarWarsShop.com exclusive OTC version as the "vintage" counterpart here. But the question is which version will hurt your wallet more. Will it be the "Vintage" version or the Modern version?
