Review: Aayla Secura - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | June 01, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

Not too much else is cooler than the ladies of the Jedi Order. Aayla Secura may be the most popular, but Gentle Giant's mini bust interpretation is a littl off. See what we think in Research Droids Reviews with today's focus on it. We hope that you'll also leave comments in our new and fun comments section as well as placing your opinion of this item by voting in our poll. 501st Legion Clone Trooper

The Episode I commemorative Blu-ray Battle Droid figure has hit eBay from famed seller tunghori. This is technically the only "new" figure in these multipacks. But the best way to army build this figure is by getting it on eBay for a very reasonable price, less than $6!

The Episode IV commemorative Blu-ray Luke Skywalker figure has hit eBay from famed seller tunghori. I cannot figure out what looks different about this Luke when compared to the Resurgence Of The Jedi figure, but something is definitely "newish". What do you think? Leave your comments!

Review: Emperor Palpatine - Life Size Bust

Get A Good Look At Wedge Antilles!

Posted by Paul | May 30, 2011 at 11:37 PM ET |

Our good buddies at Yakface.com have been fortunate enough to attain a sample of the late-released Wedge Antilles from wave 3. We suggest taking some time to check out the thorough Toyguide entry because Lord knows if/when we find ours. We just will NOT pay more than $10 for this figure and right now that seems very unlikely.

As we enter the third week of our Sideshow marathon we continue with the Militaries of Star Wars line. We didn't get to see these clones in action, but Sideshow Collectibles surely brought the 41st Elite Corps Clone Trooper (better known as the Coruscant Clone) to life with an awesome paint application on top of the Phase II armored body! Click below to check him out, and stop by our Research Droids Review to read about all the finer points!

Review: Sith Training Darth Maul - TSC - SAGA 053

Posted by Paul | May 30, 2011 at 12:01 AM ET |

Here is a doowacky of a figure: the absolutely awful Sith Training Darth Maul! Action figures should not have rollers people, but this one does! Although this figure has a cool metal lightsaber hilt and a magnet to hold it in place in his hand, this Darth Maul may be better left in a bargain basement. See why Research Droids Reviews sees this figure as a setback in The Saga Collection! Review: Chewbacca With Electronic C-3PO - TSC - SAGA 054

Posted by Paul | May 29, 2011 at 12:25 AM ET |

Here's a figure that is hard to dislike! The Electronic C-3PO is really the star of this set, so much in fact that many collectors consider it to be the modern update to 1982's C-3PO (Removable Limbs) figure! Sure, Chewbacca is a little awkward and limited in articulation, but between the realism of C-3PO and the awesome soft-goods cargo net (and electronics), there is a lot to enjoy here! Review: Holographic Clone Commander Cody - TSC - SAGA 056

Posted by Paul | May 28, 2011 at 12:04 AM ET |

Love them or hate them, holographic figures were incessant from 2004 through about the end of 2008. We haven't had many (if any) since (we'd have to double check to be sure), but Holographic Commander Cody was one of the better ones. See why Research Droids Reviews thinks this particular sculpt of Clone Commander Cody works much better as a hologram than as a realistic figure. Review: Super Battle Droid - TSC - SAGA 061

Posted by Paul | May 26, 2011 at 12:30 AM ET |

How cool were Hasbro's own conceptual Kashyyyk Super Battle Droids? Too bad they only could use an inferior sculpt to make it. One of the few "Hasbro Universe" figures we'd love to see updated with a superior sculpt, it's unlikely it will ever happen. See how this figure fairs in our Research Droids Reviews today! Yeah, our obsessive-compulsive behavior wouldn't allow us to stop thinking about what the actual status of that 12" scaled Dewback is actually going to be considered. We spoke with Sideshow Collectibles just moments ago and they confirmed that the Dewback is actually falling under the 12" Figure Environment banner and will contain no articulation (as of this moment). This is utterly upsetting. Why they can't even give this thing articulated legs is beyond us. Just received! Bryan Mark German sends us images of the card backs to share with our readers! Miraculously, it seems that Hasbro has gotten all of the historical references correctly (for the very first time?) with every figure in the wave! Hopefully Lucasfilm, Ltd. is too lazy to turn this figure over and see this! (Again, we're being sarcastic!) Click through for more! Enjoy!

Time for variation hunters to wake up from hibernation! You should know by know that Hasbro wants you to remain busy! Our friends at Yakface.com are reporting a card back change to R2-D2 (VC25) which "corrects" the photo by removing the [incorrect] historical reference and replacing it with a scene in the film. But this technically is still wrong. And Hasbro may NEVER get this right. They had an opportunity to put the 2004 SW Sail Barge R2-D2 as the historical figure and they goofed that up again! Review: R5-J2 - TSC - SAGA 058

Posted by Paul | May 17, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

Black Imperial droids are awesome, even if they're technically inaccurate, just like R5-J2 is! See why R5-J2, despite its shortcomings, is still an incredible astromech droid action figure in our Research Droids Reviews database today. Today we kick off a Sideshow Collectibles Visual Guide marathon, bringing you more than two weeks worth of daily updates from the 1/6th scale line of figures! If you haven't stopped by our Sideshow Collectibles Visual Guide page lately, make sure you stop in to check out our newly organized guide with quicklinks not only to your favorite Visual Guides, but to our Research Droids Reviews as well! This easy to navigate page is your one-stop place to find all of your favorite Sideshow toys!

First up to kick off the marathon is General Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Master), as portrayed in the popular Tartakovsky’s original Clone Wars series! Click the guide below to check out all the slides, and make sure to read all about him in our Research Droids Review!

General Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Master)

We are ecstatic to report that we found the revision wave 6 case (labeled as W2R1) that includes the four revised figures including Stormtrooper (new helmet and body deco), Luke (Dagobah Landing) (new lightsaber), Fi-Ek Sirch (new lightsaber) and Weequay (Skiff Master) (shortened neck post) at Walmart (2 different locations). We found 12 cases in Tullytown, PA and four cases in Princeton, NJ this morning. We also found the Colt/Barriss Offee wave in Princeton too! And we are getting store reports from readers elsewhere too. It looks like stuff is getting more and more plentiful!

Patrol Dewback One-Sixth Scale Collectible Teased!

Posted by Paul | May 15, 2011 at 08:47 PM ET |

Sideshow Collectibles has just teased the upcoming Sandtrooper With Patrol Dewback one-sixth scale figure set. The fantastic news is that Sideshow has opted (and miraculously received approval from Lucasfilm, Ltd. obviously) to make the Dewback's likeness after the original puppet from Episode IV (as far as we can tell - we suppose anything can change). But we honestly don't even want to know how many bills this thing is going to cost! Click through to check out the exciting teaser video!

UPDATE: Check out Sideshow's own YouTube channel which hosts the teaser video and confirms it as such.

Review: Clone Trooper 442nd Siege Battalion - TSC - SAGA 057

Posted by Paul | May 15, 2011 at 12:35 AM ET |

There were many figures released throughout Hasbro's long action figure history that were based on concept art that interestingly weren't referred to as concept art figures on the packaging. Research Droids Reviews goes over the concept art inspired 442nd Siege Battalion Clone Trooper. See how awesome it is! We hope that you'll also leave comments in our new and fun comments section as well as placing your opinion of this item by voting in our poll. Why does he have to wear so many hats on his head? JTA reader Nick writes in with an update to the Rebel Fleet Trooper. Apparently when the Rebel Fleet Troopers that shipped from eBay did so without the "baseball" caps. eBay seller tunghori made it right and then shipped the missing part. Review: Battle Of Geonosis - TAC - Battle Packs

The 30 (77-07) line was known for its inventive and awesome Battle Packs sets. But one multipack had collectors responding with "what the heck"? We honestly didn't have too many updated figures in early 2007, but Research Droids Reviews still determines that this set was really a waste. Will you find use for it? What?! A POTF2 figure in 2011? Yup! But at least Hasbro gives us yet another stab at that elusive Hoth rebel Trooper that never made it basic figure status. Kmart Exclusive B-wing Fighter Revealed!

Posted by Paul | May 10, 2011 at 12:17 PM ET |

Our friends at Sandtroopers.com have received an image at what looks to be a Kmart exclusive B-wing Fighter from The Vintage Collection. But Hasbro, we need a new Y-wing!

Sideshow Collectibles cobbles together a beautifully stunning diorama of the 212th Attack Battalion to help promote the upcoming Boil/Waxer/Numa 3-pack)! We would caution Sideshow Collectibles however to maybe PhotoShop out that General Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone Trooper Armor before Lucasfilm, Ltd. gets their panties in a knot (since they want to sweep any remnants of the flawless Tartakovsky inspired Clone Wars under the carpet). We're being facetious folks - we're still angry about Captain Fordo being called ARC Trooper Commander. (We're trying our best to let it go.) Enjoy the full size image of the diorama by clicking on the thumbnail below.

There are more changes to previously released figures in the Special Action Figure Set (Villain Set). Review: Han Solo (Small Head) - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures

Posted by Paul | May 08, 2011 at 12:08 AM ET |

Sideshow Collectibles Visual Guide Marathon Coming Soon!

Posted by Paul | May 07, 2011 at 11:43 PM ET |

We're gearing up for an awesome Sideshow Collectibles Visual Guide marathon! To help tease it a little bit, we have made some enhancements to our Sideshow Collectibles Visual Guide page! And be sure to check out our Facebook page because our Facebook fans will be getting a premier look at what's coming to the front page (shortly - so keep checking back). In the meantime, be sure to check out our newly improved Sideshow Collectibles Visual Guide page where we have reorganized the product license into clearer categories and also have provided links to the figures that have corresponding Research Droids Reviews! (We will also be updating the other licensees.)

If you read our Research Droids Review on the Aqua Droid, you know that we were quite disappointed about the extraordinarily loose joints (to the point where posing it and making it stand were nearly impossible). Once again, JTA correspondent Chad Cobain comes through with an amazing discovery! Hasbro has corrected the joints and tightened them up significantly and Chad has sent in a video proving this trying to do anything he can to make the droid collapse! You have to see this! Want to see the proof? Then click through!

Additional Information On TARGET Exclusive TVC 3-Packs

Posted by Paul | May 07, 2011 at 04:59 PM ET |

The TARGET exclusive The Vintage Collection 3-packs may be leaking out in your area as we speak, but we thought you'd like to know that these are part of a new reset date beginning May 15, 2011. This doesn't mean that your TARGET will have them out then, but it is on that date that TARGET employees should be helpful and go in the back for you if they're not out yet. We had no luck today at 5 TARGET stores in the Philly area. No one would go back and get them for us. Or maybe they're catching on to this reporter....

In the meantime, check out sneak peeks from our friends at Yakface.com as those lucky stiffs were able to secure them!

Review: ARC-170 Elite Squad - TAC - Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | May 02, 2011 at 12:55 AM ET |

Sometimes Hasbro goes overboard and extrapolates on a very popular clone trooper battalion. That's what they did for the Razor Squadron at least. Check out today's Research Droids Reviews and see if the ARC-170 Elite Squad is worthy of your time and money. We hope that you'll also leave comments in our new and fun comments section as well as placing your opinion of this item by voting in our poll. Research Droids Reviews

While we're certainly not comfortable stating that Walmart is also getting new product with absolute optimism, we did manage to find multiple signs of wave 4 of The Vintage Collection in stock. (But for goodness sake, Jango Fett and Mace Windu have been IMPOSSIBLE to locate even still for us. We're not understanding the huge popularity with these two repainted/retooled figures at all.) But what's interesting is that they are obviously "old" cases because the Senate Guard has the first run photo on it. Are cases and cases of TVC in limbo (just like what happened for the Legacy Collection) and not reaching stores when they should be, or coming in dribs and drabs? We don't know, but we are very concerned that there is a clog starting that will likely affect future (and new) case assortments. We hope Hasbro has a good answer for us soon. Click through to leave your own experiences in our comments module.

TARGET: Great Deals And Perhaps They Are Coming To Our Rescue?

Just confirmation that it pays to do your toy errands as often as you can, we found two (2) of the Cad Bane And IG-86 two-packs from Fall 2010 for a mere $1.98 each at our local TARGET in Philadelphia. Also of note, the Separatist Droid Gunship and Separatist Droid Tri-Fighter are making heavy appearances in the same area. And with recent reports of wave 6 of TVC also being found at this retailer, it seems that TARGET may be picking up some momentum for collectors.
