OTC Jawa Sandcrawler Hits Media Play

Posted by Mike | November 29, 2004 at 11:20 AM ET |

We have received a store report that the entertainment retailer, Media Play, has gotten in a shipment of the OTC Sandcrawlers. We received the report from a reader that works for one of the stores:

"Hello, I got some news you may be interested in. I work for a store called Media Play, and one of the guys in the Toy Section told me about a new item that was on the shelf. He knows I am a big Star Wars fan, so he keeps me informed of what they get in. So I made my way over to the Star Wars section, and low and behold, I find a Jawa Sandcrawler. I was a little shocked to see it there, as I knew it was suppose to be avaialble online only. Thinking that noone would believe me, I brought my camera in the next day and took a picture of it. Thankfully noone noticed me, as that would have been a tough one to explain. The price was $59.99, which is a lot more than I paid for mine online, including shipping."

This is an interesting find for sure. The sandcrawler as everyone knows was at one time a Target Exclusive, but for various reasons the deal fell apart. So Hasbro made the Sandcrawler available to Diamond Comic Distributors. This is the first time that I have heard of the Sandcrawler making its way to a mainstream retailer. Many Thanks to Derrick for the heads up!

*Update*
Pete has reminded me that the Sandcrawler has shown up on ToysRUs.com. I change my ealier statement to I have not heard of the Jawa Sandcrawler at the actual brick and morter stores.

Star Wars Miniatures Updates

Posted by Mike | November 19, 2004 at 10:07 AM ET |

WOTC updates once again with a couple new articles on the Star Wars Miniatures Game.
The first article is Jedi Counseling #53. With the Minis Game still relatively new, the questions about game play are still rolling in. Make sure to check it out to get some info on any possible questions you may have. Click HERE to take a look!
The next article is an interview with JD Wiker, the Author for the upcoming Ultimate Missions: Rebel Storm Handbook. In this Q&A we get a little insight into what it was like to create the scenarios. One of the scenarios that interests me is the "The Temptation of Luke Skywalker". Here is an excerpt from the interview about this mission:

"You've got Royal Guards, the Emperor, and Darth Vader stacked up against Luke Skywalker -- 122 points to 27 -- so there's got to be something to keep the Guards, not to mention the Emperor, from jumping into the fight and wiping the floor with Luke. And, to more accurately represent that final scene, I added rules to keep Vader from unloading all of his nastiest attacks on Luke. On top of that, the scenario has special rules to encourage Luke not to go for a fast "kill" on Vader. It gets really involved after a while. Choosing which Victory Condition to shoot for really affects your strategy."

E3 Teaser Posters Arriving, With Problems

    Posted by Mike | November 10, 2004 at 11:19 AM ET |

Just a heads up to anyone that ordered the E3 Teaser Poster from the Star Wars Shop. Make sure to check your posters! After letting mine sit for a few days, I finally took it out to admire it, only to find that it was damaged. Upon talking to fellow staffer Chuck, he too found his poster was damaged. When we told Pete, he took a look at his poster, and yes, his was damaged as well.
Fearing that this was more than mere coincidence, Pete posted in our forums of the problems, and yes, Forum Member AceFace, looked at his poster and found his was damaged as well! The forum thread can be found HERE!
From the looks of the packaging, the posters should be arriving in good shape, but looks can be deceiving! The tubes that the posters are rolled up and placed into do not stop the posters from sliding back and forth, this could be cause for the damage on the edges. However, it also looks like someone was less than patient with trying to get the posters in, as Chuck and Petes posters were at some point bent, leaving a crease.
Make sure to check the posters out when you get them. Also, follow the instructions that came with the poster as to how to return it! If you email the Star Wars Shop, you will get an email that says the exact same thing that is printed on the paper. Here are some images of my poster:

This weekend Wizards Of The Coast updated their miniatures site with a few articles.

Next they posted preview #3 for Rebel Storm Ultimate Missions. This mission titled, "Rebel Storm's Endor Speeder Chase", centers around the speeder chase on Endor, which means we get a new gameplay mat. Also make sure to check out the Jedi Counseling 52, which is a Q&A for various Star Wars products from WOTC. For this session they covered a few gameplay issues, the one about the Emperor's Force Lightning ability is especially notable.
