IG-88 (#15) - Six Inch - The Black Series [Phase II]

I will be at NJ Collectors Con in Cherry Hill, NJ this Sunday visiting our sponsor NJ Toys and Collectibles who will have a booth at the show. I will be bringing some of our exclusive SWCA Vintage Kenner Tribute Posters with me to give away. If you're going, be sure to stop at NJ Toys and Collectibles booth to find out how you can get one! It's this Sunday only and I should be there sometime between 12:30 and 1:00 PM. For more show information, please visit http://www.newjerseycollectorscon.com/.

If you collect Jakks Pacific products, TARGET has put their exclusive 31" Shock Trooper on eBay for a mere $17.99 with FREE SHIPPING. That's like almost getting this large item for FREE! Special thanks to JTA reader Derek for the news!

Well, this is interesting. As of July 16, 2015 (right after SDCC this year and right before the Force Friday launch), Hasbro has posted an open position for Senior Brand Marketing Manager. A new position? A replacement position? Click through to read the job description. Special thanks to JTA reader Dan. D. for the alert to this.

Look what JTA Facebook fan Jonathan O. found at his local TARGET 10 hours ago! I have to admit that this is probably the most exciting thing I have seen hit TARGET shelves in years (price and all). Hey Jonathan! Get that Obi-Wan Kenobi/Super Battle Droid two-pack. It's the only place you'll find a Super Battle Droid with ball-jointed ankles! Not even the TVC version came with them!

Getting modern updates of the final fifteen 1985 POTF figures was always fun. Sadly, Lando Calrissian (In General's Gear) wasn't really perfect. He wasn't terrible either. First The Force Awakens Line Look Merchandise Leaks Onto Shelves!

Posted by Paul | July 29, 2015 at 01:51 PM ET |

JTA reader Logan P. sends us what appears to be the first sign of The Force Awakens merchandise on retail. We knew this was inevitable. Products will likely be leaking onto shelves the closer we get. While likely still a breach of contract, this piece of merchandise is relatively harmless. Keep your eyes peeled out there folks!

Review: Malakili (Rancor Keeper) - POTF2 [G/FF] - Basic

Posted by Paul | July 29, 2015 at 01:35 AM ET |

Thank you for the tremendous response to our celebration of 20 years of The Power Of The Force "2"! It exceeded our expectations! We will be returning to the other figures in the "Red" carded line look soon, but let''s finish up the "Green/Freeze Frame" phase first. Malakili (Rancor Keeper) is an excellent modern update to the 1984 vintage Kenner figure. But is it perfect? (No; judging by its peg-warming status in 1997 and 1998.) See it in our Research Droids Reviews today! Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

First Order Aggravation?

Posted by Paul | July 28, 2015 at 02:21 PM ET |

The First Order Stormtrooper went up for sale at 11:23 AM and completely SOLD OUT at 11:30 AM. The buzz around the internet in a few short hours of its sell out is massive. There are angry collectors. There are indifferent collectors. And there are collectors who are just surprised that Hasbro Toy Shop could accommodate that many people in seven (7) short minutes. Where do you stand on the issue of exclusives and their availability? There are many differing opinions. But it's evident that most people are sick of this. Granted, a general marketplace version of this figure will be made available. But if you're a collector, wouldn't you want the collectors' version?

UPDATE: JTA reader The Force Collector forwards an email from Hasbro Toy Shop customer service.

Look at the deco on Luke Skywalker (In X-wing Fighter Pilot Gear) and then try to tell us you're not impressed. It was a testament to what Hasbro was capable of in the modern era. It is only until Hasbro confirms it that you should believe it. We also don't know what retailer this information has come from or if some of the items may be exclusive to that store or not as this list compiles info from multiple places. Today Is The 7 Year Anniversary Of 2008's TLC/TCW Product Launch!

Posted by Paul | July 26, 2015 at 01:19 PM ET |

Today is the 7th anniversary of 2008's The Legacy Collection/The Clone Wars product launch. (My goodness where does the time go?) Some of the greatest products of all time were part of this era. I was reminded of this checklist by seeing a post on Yakface.com's Facebook page. But look what kind of awesome notice we received from Hasbro about what to expect when the product went live for sale! Man, hopefully Disney can take good notes about what doesn't work with a "Mystery Box" launch, although stuff is leaking out exponentially by the moment. Disney needs to know the zealousness and passion Star Wars fans possess. It's not like we're waiting for the next princess to be revealed. In my opinion, Star Wars shouldn't be handled the same way. Click the image below to refresh your memories of these good times!

UPDATE!: JTA reader George T. graciously shares his photography from a Midnight Madness event from that night! He also included a pdf of the booklet that Hasbro gave out at the time as well! Check it out by clicking through!!

No Force Friday Event At Walmart In Canada

Posted by Paul | July 26, 2015 at 12:00 PM ET |

JTA reader Mike M. sends us information that Walmart in Canada WILL NOT be participating in Force Friday events. He then reached out to other retailers. Click through to read the details in his blog. He writes "Good Morning!I sent an email to WalMart Canada earlier this week and was told that they will not be taking part in “Force Friday.” I’ve posted the information on my blog. Thanks and #MTFBWY!"

He wasn't perfect, but Boba Fett changed the way collectors viewed action figures (in a good way). More importantly, he was essentially impossible to find in time for Christmas of 1995. Many collectors needed most of 1996 to locate this action figure. Leanr more in our Research Droids Reviews today! Hasbro Pulse: Check Those Vital Signs!

Posted by Paul | July 25, 2015 at 10:59 PM ET |

If you signed up for the Hasbro Pulse thing, you've probably received your first correspondence from Hasbro in the mail. The feedback we're getting is not very positive. This very, very commercial program (which is open to everyone) doesn't seem to have the edge it needs to be useful for collectors. Maybe it needs time to get going, but I had a bad feeling about this from its official announcement. We understood it to be a medium for Hasbro to connect with collecting sites to be the voice for the collecting community (before it went public). It's shaping up to be anything but that. Again, it's too early to fret. But I personally received a Transformers comic (I have ZERO interest in Transformers and specifically selected Star Wars as my only interest.) See what JTA reader Ryan G. received as well by clicking through.

These came up for $4.99. K. Andrews."

Posted by Paul | July 23, 2015 at 01:10 AM ET |

TVC MagnaGuard Loose And Complete On eBay And Other Auctions!

Posted by Paul | July 22, 2015 at 05:08 PM ET |

Hopefully this isn't old news for you. It's been a while since we've linked to the eBay auctions of tunghori. But to our big surprise he has listed loose 2010 TVC MagnaGuard (VC18) figures that are complete. This hard to find figure is often at the top of collectors' lists to even obtain loose as it wasn't widely available when originally released. He has it listed for a very reasonable $12.99 loose. You should also check out his other auctions as well. He has a ton of figures from The Clone Wars line for $5 and under and other gems. This is definitely worth checking out!

New TARGET Reset - Galactic Heroes Revealed (New TFA Packaging?)

Posted by Paul | July 22, 2015 at 11:27 AM ET |

Here is some interesting news for you collectors who shop at TARGET. A new reset is imminent and will transpire around August 3rd/4th. The only Star Wars figures slotted for the new reduced space are the 18" Jakks Pacific figures and Hot Wheels. This will also move to the "remote control" aisle. There will also be a four foot section of clearance as well. But there will literally be no action figures (what collectors consider action figures at least). Of special note, new Galactic Heroes/Jedi Force figures like the ones showing up on eBay from seller bluesduff2008 are also part of this new plan-o-gram. (Could this also be an indication of the new TFA packaging?) These include Luke & Wampa, Echo Base Encounter, Ewok Village Endor, Wicket W. Warrick and Han Solo & Tauntaun. (Some were revealed at 2015's Toy Fairs. Others weren't.) The DPCI numbers for these items should be forthcoming soon. It looks like we could see a huge purge across the land in other places too to gear up for September 4th!

Nothing really new is shown (save for the Chewbacca mask), but it does confirm a Build A Weapon pack-in premium. This information originated at starwars7news.com. Check it out and let the repackaging begin!

A Blast From The Past: Power Of The Force Too!

Posted by Paul | July 19, 2015 at 01:27 PM ET |

JTA moderator flamingtoilet alerted our attention to a very old website called Power Of The Force Too (that probably was in motion before any of the fan sites you visit today). It has been archived. I personally have never come across this ever. This is the timely for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we're celebrating 20 years of this line in our RDRs, and secondly, the humor is very reminiscent of what Mark Grimshaw (studlydudly) posted via his Karaoke Cantina comic strips. Check it out! (You have to love that mid-nineties high-rez photography!)

Review: Han Solo - POTF2 [R] - Basic

Posted by Paul | July 19, 2015 at 01:15 AM ET |

Happy 20 year anniversary to The Power Of The Force "2" line!! Do you believe we are twice as many years out from the very first 1995 POTF2 figures than we were when 1995 POTF2 was from the vintage Kenner 1985 line when it started up? This also means it's been 30 years since 1985 POTF! We are celebrating the birth of the modern era by looking at 12 figures that birthed a new era of collecting. It's A Plague We Tell You!

Posted by Paul | July 18, 2015 at 05:29 PM ET |

We hope that stores like this (in our immediate area) somehow find a way too rid themselves of the plague that is Princess Leia (Slave Outfit). These have been rotting since November 2013 and the store has received no other 6" figure since then. Also, in the last 12 months I have seen three new 3.75" super-articulated figures hanging from these pegs.

Review: Darth Vader - POTF2 [R] - (POTF2 20 Year Anniversary!)

Posted by Paul | July 18, 2015 at 12:08 AM ET |

Happy 20 year anniversary to The Power Of The Force "2" line!! Do you believe we are twice as many years out from the very first 1995 POTF2 figures than we were when 1995 POTF2 was from the vintage Kenner 1985 line when it started up? This also means it's been 30 years since 1985 POTF! Where does the time go! We are celebrating the birth of the modern era by looking at 12 figures that birthed a new era of collecting. Rest In Peace Mark, You'll Be Sorely Missed

Posted by Paul | July 17, 2015 at 09:45 AM ET |

It is with extremely heavy heart that I post this. Longtime JTA reader and personal friend of mine Mark Grimshaw (known as studlydudly here at JTA) has passed away. He was an amazing person, fun collecting buddy and possessed a corny side which all made us laugh: his cantina karaoke cartoons (you can see many of them posted in our RDRs). He was a fixture at many fan sites including our friends at BanthaSkull.com and Yakface.com. I will miss him terribly. Life has no guarantees. Always strive to be good to others and make it matter. I am personally devastated by this loss. I am so glad I "harassed" him into finding Chuck at SWCA to get his poster. Rest in peace, Mark. You'll be sorely missed.

Happy 20 year anniversary to The Power Of The Force "2" line!! The very first modern Star Wars collection turns 20 years old this month! TBS6 Slave Leia Makes Evening News For All The Wrong Reasons

Posted by Paul | July 14, 2015 at 07:48 AM ET |

Will this never end? The Black Series 6" Princess Leia (Slave Outfit) makes the evening news on Fox 29 Philadelphia for all the wrong reasons again. Not that she looks like Jon Favreau. Not that this figure has some of the worst paint operations ever encountered in the TBS6 line (dripping eyes anyone?). Not that her premium soft-goods have been cut from the same material as elementary school Field Day ribbons. Not that it was the absolute wrong first choice for Princess Leia in this scale. No. A figure that has been warming the pegs since Fall 2013 makes the news almost two years after its release because it's "inappropriate" for small children. An overprotective single father of two started up the drama this time. See the FULL REPORT here. It's time to remove her from the shelves altogether. We're all sick and tired of looking at her, Hasbro. Even Yarna moved out more quickly than this.

SDCC Hasbro Q and A Sessions Begin Getting Posted

Posted by Paul | July 13, 2015 at 08:50 PM ET |

A few sites have begun posting their Q&As from San Diego Comic Con this year. Click through for a list of who has published their results. I don't know guys and gals. It seems the answer to the question "What can collectors expect for 3.75?" gets the following response: "Everything is perfectly alright now. We're fine. We're all fine here now. Thank you. How are you?" We're not kidding. Listen/look for yourselves. Sounds more like they're sweating bullets to avoid the question to me. The same applies to other questions for which we want answers. (Sigh....)

Complete Chaos At Hasbro Booth For First Order Stormtrooper

Posted by Paul | July 09, 2015 at 07:55 AM ET |

This is why I don't attend these insane conventions. Probably 70% of these purchasers aren't even fans/collectors. According to bleedingcool.com, Hasbro was ill-prepared for the First Order Stormtrooper madness. Like people getting knocked down and security unable to control the hoards madness. Be thankful most of us are keyboard jockeys for this event. By the way, I LOVE the reader who commented and coined the term "hygienically challenged". I couldn't have worded that better.

UPDATE: Our friends at Yakface.com have confirmed that this will go for sale at Hasbro Toy Shop on July 28. They advise to plan accordingly.

Well, this is odd. Unless this is a Hot Toys release, Sideshow Collectibles just announced another Darth Maul 1:6 Scale Figure, which goes against their philosophy to redo the same character twice. Rebels Line Look No Longer Recognized By TARGET Computer

Posted by Paul | July 01, 2015 at 05:01 PM ET |

This really isn't anything too newsworthy, but it's more likely than not that if you find a Rebels figure at you local TARGET store that the system won't recognize the UPC any longer. While we understand the need for retail to prepare for The Force Awakens line, do any of you find it odd that Hasbro just didn't continue this assortment number to keep product active during the live airings of the show? We hope that most of these Rebels figures make their way into the new line look this September, especially Chopper. Special thanks to friend Chris S. for the image!
