Return to the Main Jedi Temple Archives Home Page

June 2016

Jedi Temple Archives is proud to announce our second Celebration Europe exclusive. We’re thrilled to introduce a running series of exclusive vintage Kenner card back trading cards that will be released in waves of series during a special Star Wars event or landmark. But this is only the first of many! These beautiful large format trading cards feature every last detail of the classic vintage Kenner figures we all grew up with and now you can collect them and cherish them forever in your own Star Wars collection. The inaugural set of cards, also known as Series 1, is exclusive to Celebration Europe and will feature a selection of 4 vintage Kenner and Palitoy card backs including Chewbacca (Trilogo-70B), Yoda (Palitoy ESB-30B), Emperor’s Royal Guard (ROTJ-65A), and Amanaman (POTF-92). Each trading card is 3.5" x 5.25 inches, designed specifically to fit nicely in a 4-up trading card sheet so you can build your own reference guide as more cards are released.

A limited set of these card back will also be reserved for those that don’t attend Celebration Europe. These will be offered in our store at a later date. In the meantime, click below for a complete look at Series 1!

Some 'Unreleased' Products Hit Hasbro Toy Shop's eBay Page?

Posted by Paul | June 30, 2016 at 05:59 PM ET |

It looks like Hasbro Toy Shop's eBay page has restocked and this time some products have been included that we didn't even knew existed. While you may or may not care about these products, it seems that this is somewhat newsworthy to those who like keeping historical information of what's been released. Maybe we're not entirely correct here, but it appears to us that there are products now listed that have never made it to retail (in our areas at least) and perhaps are available for the "first time" on eBay. We're sure "someone" out there will say they saw this stuff, but it's news to us. Check it all out!

Orlando Victim Inspires 'Star Wars' Petition

Posted by Paul | June 30, 2016 at 09:36 AM ET |

"We both loved Star Wars, it was really just a part of our lives. We'd watch reviews and talk about it. We would listen to the sound track in the car." Their love for Star Wars movies was a bond that kept them inseparable for six years, even after Yehl moved from Orlando to Los Angeles. And it was a bond that suddenly ended when Leinonen was killed alongside 48 others in the Pulse Nightclub massacre in Orlando. (more....)

SDCC/Toys R Us Exclusive Astromech Set - New Store Report Images!

Posted by Paul | June 21, 2016 at 08:23 AM ET |

We have more images to share of the Toys R Us/SDCC exclusive Astromech Droid 3-pack. Yes it does look like a SDCC exclusive to us now as evidenced by the signage. For those interested in approximating what this may cost int he USA, JTA Filipino reader Jones M. lets us know that the exchange rate is roughly PHP46.00 to USD1.00. In this case, that means this would cost 108.69 in American dollars in the Philippines. We estimate it will be significantly cheaper than this in the USA (hopefully).

Do you remember when we broke the news of The Black Series 6" AT-AT Driver and Snowtrooper about a month before Toy Fair, a news report viewed by an astounding 27K+ collectors? In that list we mentioned an A New Hope version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but Hasbro didn't reveal him at Toy Fair. We even pleaded with Hasbro on May the 4th to reveal him then as they seemed to be the only major license who didn't reveal something new and exciting. Well, our Research Droids are definitely on your side and they're willing to share the wealth with you. We've received "additional" confirmation that Obi-Wan Kenobi (ANH) is indeed coming and will LIKELY be part of a case of TBS6 figures including Sabine Wren, Snowtrooper, and AT-AT Driver. Our sources claim that they will be SHOCKED if Obi-Wan Kenobi is NOT part of this assortment. With Hasbro, please keep in mind that anything can change, but this is the latest update we have. It looks like we may finally see what he will look like at CE and/or SDCC this year.

While rumors abound that this could be an SDCC exclusive, we aren't so sure of that. Hasbro said that the SDCC exclusive would be another "trooper" this year at Toy Fair. Time will tell however.

Algorithmic Pricing - The New Bane Of Collecting?

Posted by Paul | June 20, 2016 at 07:56 AM ET |

File this under "We don't set the retail price, retail does" response we get from Hasbro all of the time. Distribution woes, fewer products each calendar year. Disregard for 3.75" super-articulated figures. Now this (not that it's anything new). Walmart's algorithmic pricing is at it again. While not a huge gouge, TBS6 Ahsoka Tano is in stock for $27.27 (and sold by Walmart.com, we checked). This may be a perfect example of why maybe Big Box retail needs to be under some sort of contract with Hasbro and the way things get priced. Instances like this over time create frustration and burn out and downright animosity. These figures are EXPENSIVE enough at MSRP. They shouldn't be sold by a legitimate retailer for more than what Hasbro suggests.

It is so boring and bad right now that people on eBay are pre-selling upcoming TBS6 figures and are claiming that they're arriving June/July. This isn't so, folks. These figures are part of the Rogue One launch.Don't fall for it!

Happy Father's Day To All Of Our Dads!

Posted by Paul | June 19, 2016 at 12:35 AM ET |

Jedi Temple Archives wishes all of our fathers a very happy Father's Day! In a world where your invaluable role can be minimized, diminished and even overlooked, we want you to know just how important you are in the raising and development of your children. Give yourself a few extra points if you use Star Wars as a part of that rearing too. Happy Father's Day! As a tribute, we're sharing an image drawn by a son of one of our readers. Click the image below for the full size and be sure to read the description below.

About the drawing: JTA reader Michael Osadciw's son made the above sketch for him for Father’s Day at school. His son explained to him what everything in the picture was so Michael thought it would be fun to share with the readers in our community by identifying them for us. Somewhere A Native American Is Shedding a Tear....

Posted by Paul | June 18, 2016 at 01:41 PM ET |

Back in April we expressed great concern of the alarming amount of The Black Series [Phase III] 6" wave 2 figures hitting retails in such great numbers. As the attention of retail becomes shorter and shorter there just isn't time for them to move out merchandise that just isn't produced to interest the adult collecting market. Here we are just 60 days out from April and these older TBS6 figures have completely brought the line to a screeching halt. They're completely rotting on pegs. Many regions of the USA and abroad still haven't even seen the Hux/Asty or Ahsoka/Kanan waves and are swimming in wave 2 as well. Even Capatin Phasma is hanging around like a plague. It seems that Walmart has become impatient too, and we have found at all of the stores in our areas that TBS6 figures have been rollbacked to $14.92 each, which is right around what these things cost wholesale. (JTA reader C. Emrich also sent us a report showing the same thing at his local Walmart.) It's unbelievable the state the hobby is in right now. Even Micro Machines (the playsets we're talking about) and vehicles can be found about $1 - $3 each now. It's time to bring back vintage Kenner inspired packaging. Mock vintage Kenner Large Size Action Figure boxes for 6" figures, and classic vintage Kenner basic figures for 3.75" scale. Now, Hasbro. You need a hail Mary at this point. Retail needs to look like 1978-1985 again to bring back the fold that has walked away.

Chewbacca Mom Gets Her Own Action Figure!

Posted by Paul | June 17, 2016 at 06:19 PM ET |

Adam May: you're no longer unique! Step aside my friend! As if free stuff from Kohls, gift cards and college tuition wasn't enough, Hasbro now steps up to the plate to offer Chewbacca Mom her very own action figure complete with removable mask. Comicbook.com has the full story! We don't think we ever saw Hasbro work so fast to get an action figure into the hands of a collector!

The best Star Wars "Saga" Toys R Us exclusive multipack was likely The Battle Of Hoth set. With a heavily retooled Tauntaun, a never-before-released R3 unit and a significantly revised Leia Hoth figure, there was a great deal to appreciate here. Hasbro Star Wars Designer Bill Rawley Featured At Tech Insider

Posted by Paul | June 15, 2016 at 10:08 AM ET |

Hasbro designer Bill Rawley, who I accidentally insulted at Toy Fair one year hailing his 2013 Saga Legends Stormtrooper "a debacle with shoulder pads", (sorry Bill), has been featured at Tech Insider. He reveals he knew about Han Solo's death two years before the film's release but was sworn to secrecy. He is also responsible for the Chewbacca mask going viral now. See what else he had to say about the Star Wars collecting hobby.

The Tauntaun And Han Solo set was pretty cool for the time. See why in our Research Droids Reviews today. More Toys R Us I Am Your Father's Day Promotion Details

Posted by Chuck | June 14, 2016 at 10:20 AM ET |

Make sure to stop by Toys R Us today to take advantage of a one-day-only sale to celebrates I Am Your Father's Day, even though Father's Day is not today. You need to be a member of Rewards "R" Us to take advantage of this deal. Big thanks to JTA reader Michael for the tip! Click the image below for details.

You know things are bad for the Star Wars brand when Constable Zuvio is the featured product in a new 2016 campaign! Toys R Us advertises for "I Am Your Father's Day" and one of the products featured is Constable Zuvio. Poor Toys R Us, you probably have more of these than you know what to do with them.

Cantina Showdown

Do you hear the crickets? The biggest Star Wars film of all time has come and gone.... and apparently so has the momentum for great Star Wars collectibles. How is there nothing new out there to keep appetites whetted or news to keep the dying collector base remotely interested or invested? Do Hasbro and other licensees really only need the casual gift buyer/parent now as well as the new fans that show interest from the latest Star Wars property? I wonder what SDCC is going to be like this year. Will it be as awful as all of the convention coverage that surrounded The Force Awakens, or are we actually going to see some stuff this time around? What are your hopes and dreams for the Star Wars line? Will we have another debacle this Fall with Force Friday 2.0? Or do you think there will be even less? Will things change for the better? And will we see a strong return of super-articulated 3.75" figures instead of the pitiful eight we received between 2015 and 2016? To Hasbro: if you've given up on collectors (of which I am partially empathetic), can you just get out some sort of exclusive that finishes up the modern counterparts to the vintage Kenner era? Then you can dump us completely. Thank you. Your thoughts please.

The surprise release of 1998 was most likely the Bantha And Tusken Raider set. Both figure and beast are tremendously awesome. Learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today. An image is floating around Facebook of roughly 6" sized Star Wars figures made with 5POA. We wonder if this is the latest market shift for 6" scaled figures, or at the very least will influence it. It seems to becoming more and more prevalent. Anyway, as soon as we learn more we're pass it along.

UPDATE: We have learned these are Bandai products.

John Williams Receives AFI Life Achievement Award

Posted by Mike_Taber | June 10, 2016 at 06:52 PM ET |

On Thursday night, John Williams received the Life Achievement from the American Film Institute. Williams in the first composer to be honored with the award. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Harrison Ford, and JJ Abrams were among those who paid tribute to the legendary composer during a presentation at the Dolby Theater. Perhaps the most memorable quote of the night came from Harrison Ford. Ford walked onto the stage as the main theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark played in the background and commented, "That damn music follows me everywhere." The brilliance, ubiquity, and impact of John Williams' work cannot be denied. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Jaws. E.T. Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Jurassic Park. Superman. Schindler's List. Even Harry Potter. The work of John Williams will live on forever. Congratulations, Mr. Williams. You've earned it.

NJ Toys And Collectibles: 50% Off The Force Awakens Merchandise!!

Posted by Paul | June 08, 2016 at 09:58 PM ET |

JTA sponsor NJ Toys And Collectibles is running a 50% off sale The Force Awakens merchandise! Everything must go to make room for Rogue One! Hurry! Supplies are limited!

Well, the drama is back! (Supposedly.) CosmicBookNews.com is reporting from source Latino Review that there is indeed major drama surrounding Rogue One, that the problems aren't overblown. In fact, they accuse Entertainment Weekly of shilling for Disney. Per the source, they're claiming that things are so bad that a new director is being brought on board and half the film needs to be reshot because it is much too dark for Disney's tastes. (What a shame if this is indeed true.) We're just presenting this for you to come to your own conclusions. But if it is true, it certainly provides some clarity on how Disney is much too involved in the creative process.

It was assumed to be a straight repack of the figure that is currently clogging pegs. But a new detail has come to light. This Kylo Ren figure is "different" from the ones already released. And it's a pretty safe/likely bet that it is going to be Kylo Ren with an unmasked portrait. Stay tuned as we learn more details surrounding this rumor.

Luke's T-16 Skyhopper

Some of you may have seen this news on our Facebook page last night, but for those of you that didn't see it, we have learned that solid case packs are being produced for TBS6 Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker and Kanan Jarrus. JTA sponsor Dorkside Toys is taking pre-orders for these at low prices ($19.99 each) if you're interested. I guess Hasbro is unaware of the need for Asty X-wing Pilot and General Hux. Sigh. Sure, Ahsoka was a great choice, but Kanan and Luke were both easy to attain. You can still get them for MSRP right now. Sometimes doig things like this is more of an overcorrection than what should have been done form the start. Hasbro, please get Asty and Hux back out there stat.
