Review: Clone Trooper - ROTS - III 41

Posted by Paul | April 01, 2012 at 12:02 AM EDT |

Just as Jango Fett became the template for the Grand Army of the Republic, so has 2005's ROTS Clone Trooper (III 41) figure become the template for the consummate super-articulated clone trooper action figure. (Too bad Hasbro had other plans, but at least we got most of them in this sculpt.) Don't delay. Check in with Research Droids Reviews today and see what figure started the chain reaction for approximately 75% of your clone trooper action figures in your collection. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via e-mail if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

Review: Mas Amedda - ROTS - III 40

Posted by Paul | March 31, 2012 at 12:04 AM EDT |

If you believe that today's figure like Queen Amidala are a new approach for Hasbro, they're not. And if "Mas" means more for this figure, then it doesn't disappoint. No, figures like the awesome Mas Amedda were developed similarly back in 2005. As a result, Mas Amedda has aged with grace. He's the topic of today's Research Droids Reviews entry, so check it out and let us know what you think! Posted by Paul | March 30, 2012 at 12:15 AM EDT |

If you're relatively new to collecting, you probably know this figure as 2010's The Vintage Collection Obi-Wan Kenobi figure. That's partially correct, but this is where it all began. Check out 2005's Obi-Wan Kenobi in our Research Droids Reviews today and see why Hasabro truly got this figure right the first time. Review: [Both Versions Of] Commander Gree - ROTS - III 59

Posted by Paul | March 29, 2012 at 12:05 AM EDT |

In our Research Droids Reviews you'll be able to see both of them! Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. JTA reader Lang sends us a very easy custom Episode I Obi-Wan Kenobi figure that blows away the incessantly repacked figure Hasbro has made us nauesous with so far this year. Review: Aayla Secura - ROTS - III 32

Posted by Paul | March 25, 2012 at 12:19 AM EDT |

This Aayla Secura figure got repacked so many times by Hasbro ever since it was first released in 2005. She's held up well but will become obsolete when The Vintage Collection version comes out. But read Research Droids Reviews today and see where our roots lied for a thoroughly articulated version of her Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Posted by Paul | March 24, 2012 at 07:18 AM EDT |

JTA Facebook friend Trevor S. send us a couple of comparison images of The Vintage Collection's Yoda (VC20) figure. I have noticed varying degrees of the dirt on his cloak, but I don't recall seeing a version that was as clean as Trevor has shown in his images. I will have to check my carded versions to see what mine look like. Amazing. Hasbro can't match the color of Yoda's head color to his hands and feet, but they take the time to change the dirtiness of his cloak? Click through to check this out. What do you think about this?

Posted by Paul | March 22, 2012 at 12:20 AM EDT |

Here is another clone that never was see in Revenge Of The Sith, the AT-TE Tank Gunner. This Grand Army of the Republic clone does have multiple roles in The Clone Wars, but it didn't get much further than concept art for Episode III. Walmart And Its Role In The Universe

Posted by Paul | March 21, 2012 at 01:26 PM EDT |

Walmart has made some controversial headlines in the past and they are the subject of one complaint after another by the media. It seems as if one fed up (and clever) graphics person wanted to point out an uncanny conincidence (or make a political statement). We just think this is humorous and not trying to start some anti-Walmart campaign, but it is funny how big business is always the subject of attack from the "little people". You may have noticed this before, but we thought it was worth passing along. (We still shop at and support Walmart.) Don't make this political.... please. Special thanks to Paul B. for the image!

Star Wars Action News - Episode 338

Posted by Chuck | March 20, 2012 at 04:36 PM EDT |

Maybe not since Heir to the Empire has a Star Wars Expanded Universe been as hotly anticipated as James Luceno's Darth Plagueis. Since Revenge of the Sith hit theaters Star Wars ans have wondered how much of Palpatine's tale of his former master was true. Could Plagueis stop people from dying? Did he pass on the knowledge to Palpatine? And, most importantly, did Plagueis cause the creation of Anakin Skywalker? But after appearing on Del Rey's Star Wars book list for release in 2008 the book was pulled by Lucasfilm.

Learn about why or why you shouldn't get the Legacy Of Terror - The Clone Wars DVD Set (1 of 2) by reading our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Clone Pilot - ROTS - III 34 (Gray Version)

Posted by Paul | March 18, 2012 at 12:02 AM EDT |

Not all of the figures in the Revenge Of The Sith line were so hot. Take for instance the Clone Pilot. How can 12 points of articulation be so useless?! Check out the reasons why this is a figure to avoid in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: R4-P17 [The Best Astromech Of All Time] - ROTS - III 64

Posted by Paul | March 17, 2012 at 12:01 AM EDT |

Hasbro will NEVER be able to make a better astromech droid than 2005's ROTS R4-P17 (III 64) figure. It's just something that cannot be done. Period. Click through to read our Research Droids Reviews today so you can see why if you only own one astromech droid in your collection, this should be it. DVD Sets Found On East Coast! (Marshalls)

Posted by Paul | March 16, 2012 at 01:15 PM EDT |

Well folks, I found the DVD sets (formerly known as Walmart exclusives) at Marshalls in Princeton, NJ. Don't forget that the "Clone Trooper" with Obi-Wan Kenobi is NOT a straight repack of 2009's TCW Clone Trooper (212th Attack Battalion). This figure has an all-new head sculpt with miner lights on his helmet as our field correspondent Chad Cobain showed us here. It seems as if this is the set many people are leaving behind which leads us to believe that figure is just another repack. Click through to see the proof!

Review: [The Rare Third Version Of] Commander Bly - ROTS - III 57

Posted by Paul | March 16, 2012 at 12:00 AM EDT |

Do you have one of the rarest figures of the entire modern line in your collection, the third version of 2005's ROTS Commander Bly (III 57)? Did you even know there were three versions? Unfortunately, Hasbro has decided to ignore this gorgeous version and reissue the incorrect ones ever since. The updated version was seen at retail for less than one week back in 2005. What a shame! See all three in today's Research Droids Reviews entry and see why the one with brown paint is the best. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! A Clarification Of Sorts

Posted by Paul | March 15, 2012 at 09:48 AM EDT |

Don't worry, this isn't a rant. I am sure many of you are completely over the long-winded responses and varied comments to my Movie Zeroes article. Although I received a lot of support over the article, I did receive some criticism and it came in the form of emails that didn’t make their way into the comments module in the article. (Some did as you can see.) I wanted to clarify some of my points I intended to make because I don’t want JTA to become Jedi Temple Warchives (thanks Mike!) despite wanting everyone to have their own voice. I also feel some misinterpreted my words somewhat as well. Click through to read.

Review: R4-G9 - ROTS - Sneak Preview (4 of 4)

Posted by Paul | March 15, 2012 at 12:05 AM EDT |

Et tu, R4-G9? It's definitely the Ides of March folks. I wanted the Research Droids Reviews entry for R4-G9 to be really special but the final draft of it just didn't turn out the way I wanted it to so a rewrite is forthcoming. This little droid is responsible for changing the way collectors viewed astromech droids. And it's still a strong sculpt for Hasbro to use even today! See why you need this action figure! Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Shaak Ti - ROTS - III 21

Posted by Paul | March 14, 2012 at 12:10 AM EDT |

It's another figure from 2005's Revenge Of The Sith line making its way into our Research Droids Reviews today. Shockingly, Shaak Ti didn't make it into the final verison of Episode III, but she did appear in a very pivotal and story changing deleted scene - one that would have nicely connected the dots to Tartakovsky's Clone Wars micro-series. It should have definitely made the final cut of the film! Find out why we feel this way. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! While this latest rant may seem like I am misdirecting my discontent at "bad" parenting (hey, some of my closest friends are "bad" parents), I can assure you it's not and instead all directed at Hasbro. I shouldn't be more excited over digging out my Revenge Of The Sith figures for the Research Droids Reviews than the new stuff hitting the shelves (but there is sadly no contest). Better Late Than Never - An Old Variation Newly Discovered!

Posted by Paul | March 12, 2012 at 02:18 PM EDT |

I have been doing some behind the curtain work and updating RDR galleries of reviews where I used my old point and click camera with photos from a "real" camera. Call it serendipity or just a random observance, I have for the first time ever noticed a pretty significant variation on 2010's TCW Firefighter Droid (CW47) and I have never seen this reported until now. I hope I am not stealing someone else's thunder. Yes, it's two years after the fact now from this figure's original release, but this hard to find The Clone Wars figure actually has two unique paint jobs. Click through for more!

Discover The Theft In 3D!

Posted by Paul | March 10, 2012 at 08:55 PM EDT |

On my toy rounds today I came across a Discover The Force Tusken Raider with the 3D glasses ripped off. I am hoping this was just an eager young and zealous Star Wars fans getting a little too excited, but once I saw people stealing the holograms and Droid Factory parts from the basic figures, I wouldn't see why they would stop at these glasses that have been worked into the card back of these figures! Star Wars Action News - Episode 336

Posted by Chuck | March 07, 2012 at 05:44 PM EDT |

This past weekend a light went out in the universe as Ralph McQuarrie passed away at the age of 82. The concept artist of the original trilogy, the artist took Lucas' words and created visions of a galaxy far, far away that would inspire generations of artists to come. It is to the memory of this great visionary that Marjorie, Arnie, and the crew of Star Wars Action News dedicate our latest podcast. He will be missed.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping to make our 2012: There's Only Four, Now Get Them Out The Door "Vintage Versus Modern" special report another incredible success. If you'd like to refer to it in the future, please note we're keeping a link at the top right side of our site for the time being and a banner will be available under our Special Reports section found HERE. More Behind-the-Scenes Upgrades at JTA!

Posted by Chuck | March 06, 2012 at 10:33 PM EDT |

Our Research Droids have been working hard behind the scenes lately and we just wanted to share one of our upgrades. We recently converted all of the active guides in our The Legacy Collection Visual Guide over to our new format. Stop by our guide to take a peek when you get a chance. We have quite a few guides 'in the bin' ready to launch too, so expect another marathon in the coming weeks.

On a related note, we've also redesigned the search results layout in our Visual Guide Search Engine database and started entering the guides from The Vintage Collection. Stop by our search page and take it for a spin. Just type in 'TVC' and see what you get! We'll continue to add new guides to the search engine daily. Our goal is to enter all guides that are currently in the new format into the database, as well as any new ones. We currently have almost 200 guides in the new format!

BAD C-3PO IS GOOD!

Posted by Paul | March 06, 2012 at 01:58 PM EDT |

Nothing is more irritating than not getting what you want. And while we cannot be petulant collectors, sometimes we just don't understand what Hasbro is thinking sometimes. They've overstayed the welcome of 2006's TSC C-3PO (SAGA 042) figure and forced it down our throats for much too long. With a brilliant 3PO protocol droid sculpt from 2009's The Legacy Collection, Hasbro, please, we urge you to use this to bring us our next C-3PO action figures (unless you can bring us an all-new super-articulated sculpt WITHOUT removable panels and gimmicky action features). Click through to see an amazing "faux custom" in the forums at Yakface.com to prove to you how awesome this figure will be.

You just have to click through to see some of the ridiculous (and often cool) concepts that didn't make it to production. You know you wanted your very own wet BAR2-D2! Special thanks to my friend Val Bruno for pointing me to this article!

Posted by Paul | March 04, 2012 at 10:05 AM EDT |

Here is surprisingly one of the best figures in wave 11 of The Vintage Collection. Colonel Cracken (Millennium Falcon Crew) technically isn't even a deleted scene character but who really cares? The best news is that Hasbro made those awesome Rebel Trooper legs from 2006 look better than ever on this figure. A Plethora Of Wave 11 Found In The Greater Philly Area!

Posted by Paul | March 01, 2012 at 09:20 AM EDT |

Holy smokes!! Maybe I do live in "Hasbrotopia" as some of our "snide" JTA readers have accused me of - you know who you are! I found no less than 7 sealed cases of wave 11 of The Vintage Collection. Nothing else new has hit, but I was thrilled to get unpunched versions of these latest figures! By the way, what's up with these .5 case designations? So confusing it is! Now I am worried about all of those wave 10 carry-forward figures.
