Posted by Paul | March 01, 2012 at 01:02 AM EDT |

It's time to start smiling again. The Return Of The Jedi Deleted Scenes wave of The Vintage Collection has hit retail and what a mighty wave it is indeed. Luke Skywalker (Lightsaber Construction) is so good, you'll have to see it for yourself to see why it's the best modern update to the 1983 Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) figure. Be sure to check out Research Droids Reviews today because it's a wonderful time to be a Star Wars collector! Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Naboo Royal Fighter With Obi-Wan Kenobi - SW [TPM 3D] - Class I

Posted by Paul | February 29, 2012 at 01:08 AM EDT |

Man, we almost got mad writing this review. What a total waste of money. See why Research Droids Reviews thinks that products like the Naboo Royal Fighter With Obi-Wan Kenobi have absolutely no business taking up retail shelf space. Review: AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) - TVC - Vehicles

Posted by Paul | February 28, 2012 at 01:20 AM EDT |

If you ask us, the Prequel Trilogy stuff looks pretty fantastic in The Vintage Collection packaging. And now that Hasbro is doing this for vehicles, it adds a sense of balance to the line. (but let's see some OT vehicles released in the mainline in this packaging too Hasbro). See our Research Droids Reviews where we look at the AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) in this classic packaging. (It looks great!) Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via e-mail if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

We Have Edited Our The Vintage Collection Wave Assortment List

Posted by Paul | February 27, 2012 at 11:51 PM EDT |

Now that the Hasbro Power Point presentation has made its way online, we went back to our notes from NY Comic Con and Toy Fair and think we culled together a better (and more accurate) list of release dates for The Vintage Collection. Please expect this to receive further edits down the road once retail starts publishing the case assortments for pre-order. But click through to see what we worked up. We've also updated our The Vintage Collection Visual Guide with this new information too. We wonder if we're going to be in for some surprises since all of these figures only take us through August of 2012. Could more TVC figure be coming Fall 2012? How exciting!

Star Wars Action News - Episode 335

Posted by Chuck | February 27, 2012 at 07:28 PM EDT |

When The Phantom Menace was released in 1999 the food tie-ins were omnipresent. From Kentucky Fried Chicken to Taco Bell to Pepsi to Doritos you could almost have an entire (albeit unhealthy) diet of Star Wars branded foods. While the 3-D rerelease is a bit more subdued, there are still a number of Star Wars food tie-in collectibles in your local grocery store. On this week's Star Wars Action News podcast, Marjorie and Arnie run down several Star Wars food items, including cereal pack-in pens and posters, gummy candies, Easter candy lightsabers, and many more!

Review: Sith Infiltrator - SW [TPM 3D] - Vehicles

Posted by Paul | February 27, 2012 at 01:05 AM EDT |

Here is a pleasant surprise in The Phantom Menace 3D line. Hasbro actually spent some time to update the paint job (and the "mechanics") on the Sith Infiltrator. It's not bigger yet, but Research Droids Reviews notices it definitely looks and functions better now. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Battle Droid [AOTC] - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH04)

Posted by Paul | February 25, 2012 at 11:53 AM EDT |

Sigh. We just cannot get too excited about the Movie Heroes line.... yet. If you bought the Battle Droid from the Movie Heroes line, you've been completely ripped off by Hasbro. The Vintage Collection Experiences Multiple Pricing Disorder

Posted by Paul | February 23, 2012 at 01:22 PM EDT |

Reported earlier by our friends at Yakface.com, our readers are also finding The Vintage Collection (both 2010/2011 figure and 2012 figures) on sale for $4.00 each. We can also confirm that our local Walmart had leftover TVC figures on sale for $4.00, but not 2012 figures. (But the toy manager offered to give us all of them for $4.00 since the clearance tag is ambiguous. We passed.) Click through to read JTA reader Chris C.'s experience at his local store.

Star Wars Action News - Episode 334

Posted by Chuck | February 23, 2012 at 11:49 AM EDT |

When Arnie and Marjorie decide to spend a little extra time in New York after tirelessly covering Toy Fair 2012, the B-Team from Cincinnati take the reigns! Jerry and Dan are back to discuss their thoughts on Phantom Menace 3D, Hasbro's Toy Fair announcements, and some other news that surfaced this past week. Hear what they think of the new Ewok and X-Wing figure packs as well as the look of the Star Wars line 2013. Was Yoda a good choice or should Hasbro have started a tradition of using characters that are introduced and killed off in the same movie? But, that's not all, Brock from the Star Wars Action New Book Club is back to review the Darth Maul short stories and we have Steve the Ginergerprince's 2012 debut with his UK report.

Battle Packs From Hasbro Presentation Show Up at POTF2.com

Posted by Chuck | February 22, 2012 at 08:46 AM EDT |

While most Hasbro figures from the 'missing presentation' from Toy Fair were either in the showroom or available in the press images, the two battle packs that were talked about were no where to be found. We personally have no recollection of them looking this bad. Maybe that's why they blew through them so quickly. Wow, the power of persuasion. Hasbro said these were the best sculpts ever and we somehow saw that too in .5 past lightspeed. Expect this to be taken down shortly as Hasbro was ultra-clear that no photography was to be taken of the presentation and that they weren't giving out the presentation this year. Click through to check them out... Plastic caped Darth Vader anyone?

Unbeknownst to us until now, our pals at DewbackPatrol.com also coordinated a quick Q&A with Hasbro at Toy Fair. The great news is that the questions that were asked by both received consistent answers! Click through for their report! No Naboo Royal Starship Droids At Retail Level Currently?

Posted by Paul | February 21, 2012 at 12:15 PM EDT |

We have been receiving questions from readers on the status of the Royal Starship Droids Battle Packs set from Walmart's Discover The Force line. While we did see these hit about 2 weeks ago in our area, they've completely sold through within 24 hours and we haven't seen them since. And it appears that the same is true for you. Can you let us know what the status of this set is in your neck of the woods by posting in our comments section by clicking through? We expected this set to be a hit, but I don't think any of us expected it to vanish this quickly from shelves. Here's hoping a second shipment is imminent. And maybe an early alarm will proactively enourage Hasbro to get more out to stores.

Review: Destroyer Droid - SW [TPM 3D] - Discover The Force (3 of 12)

Posted by Paul | February 20, 2012 at 01:15 AM EDT |

We continue looking at the so-called "straight repacks" in the awesome dozen of Discover The Force Walmart exclusive basic figures. But you'll find out in our Research Droids Reviews that some of these "straight repacks" aren't that at all. Take for instance the Destroyer Droid. Hasbro appeases our requests finally for a more translucent energy shield. And the Destroyer Droid has been repainted too. Posted by Paul | February 19, 2012 at 01:02 AM EDT |

We continue looking at the so-called "straight repacks" in the awesome dozen of Discover The Force Walmart exclusive basic figures. But you'll find out in our Research Droids Reviews that some of these "straight repacks" aren't that at all. Take for instance Yoda. He's been repainted and newly accessorized to represent his new look in the Blu-ray version of Episode. The bonus here is that we now have our very first carded CGI Yoda (based on Episode I). It's a shame they used an inferior figure to do this. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our Disqus comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Another "What The Heck!?" Moment At Toys R Us....

Posted by Paul | February 18, 2012 at 01:42 PM EDT |

Toy Fair 2012 - Full Audio From the Hasbro Presentation

Posted by Chuck | February 18, 2012 at 10:24 AM EDT |

The lack of a distributed Hasbro presentation for fans was probably one of the biggest disappointments this year at Toy Fair. While Hasbro didn't allow any video recording or picture taking, they did allow audio recording. It's not as exciting as seeing the presentation, but if you want to hear exactly what they had to say then we have what you want. Posted by Paul | February 16, 2012 at 01:05 AM EDT |

A New Hope actor Derek Lyons stopped by to check out the Rebel Honor Guard (No. 10) review from the 2007 30 (77-07) line and most recently, Episode I actor Philip Delancy who both played a Naboo Pilot and whose likeness was used on the artwork for Walmart's Discover The Force Naboo Pilot figure also stops in to add his two cents in our comments! The Naboo Pilot review also celebrates the eve of an important landmark in our Research Droids Reviews, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for that. Click through for today's review.

Hasbro's Power Point Presentation Should Be Coming Today

Posted by Paul | February 13, 2012 at 05:13 PM EDT |

Those of you waiting for Hasbro's 2012 Toy Fair Power Point presentation might be relieved to know that we got word that Hasbro will be getting it out to us sometime later today. We received mixed messages about it from HunterPR, but the lastest news seems to indicate its coming shortly. We want to see it just as badly as you because Hasbro FLEW through it at light speed. While we were texting things to Facebook, we were missing slides left and right. Let's hope it is indeed coming today!

UPDATE: Yeah, it didn't come. We're just as disappointed too.

The Plight Of The Clone Wars Line

Posted by Paul | February 13, 2012 at 03:48 PM EDT |

Ever since NY Comic Con, fans of The Clone Wars line have been perplexed (and stressed) by Hasbro’s announcement that there would be a total of 19 figures released under The Clone Wars banner for 2012. JTA spoke with Hasbro about the plans for the line in the future. Sadly, the answers we got will be interpreted bleakly by fans. If you’re interested to learn more of what they said, then click through.

Could The Vintage Collection Go On Hiatus? Build A Droid To Return?

Posted by Paul | February 12, 2012 at 11:39 AM EDT |

You know that Hasbro has stated that they're not ready to talk about their 2013 plans, but they did confirm that TVC may need to "go away" for a little bit so it doesn't overstay its welcome or get stagnant. (We don't think it ever would.) But if you read our Toy Fair Q&A with Hasbro, you may remember we asked them about if there are more Build A Droids coming into the basic figure lineup. They responded with an affirmative "no" for 2012, but said it was a definite possibility for 2013. In conjunction with this news, we've heard chatter from across multiple sources about how this directly relates to the 2013 line. Interested? You will be... you will be.

Review: The Rise Of Darth Vader - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes Exclusive

Posted by Paul | February 08, 2012 at 07:46 AM EDT |

There are very few reasons for collectors to get excited about the 2012 product line. Aside from The Vintage Collection and some of the Walmart Discover The Force products, the rest of the stuff is rather lackluster. And it almost borders on dreadful. (Lackluster is almost too kind.) The TARGET exclusive The Rise Of Darth Vader multipack is another pitiful exclusive and Research Droids Reviews looks at it from top to bottom to see if it is worth the $15 it commands. You probably already know the answer. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our Disqus comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. This Walmart also had a ton of wave 5 in stock for $4.50 each too as well as a few wave 6 stragglers. If you're near the Philly area, this is the Walmart on South Christopher Columbus Boulevard near Penns Landing and there are still plenty to rummage through. Click through to see this madness!

While they're currently on sale for 50% off ($9.98), nearly every TARGET we visited today has full end caps of them. Keep an eye on these over the next few weeks. Review: BARC Speeder With Clone Trooper - SW [TPM 3D] - Class 1

Posted by Paul | February 05, 2012 at 01:18 AM EDT |

Sigh. It's another plain white Clone Trooper and another (gulp) BARC Speeder - both of which we don't need any more. At least the Clone Trooper in this set is "newish". Research Droids Reviews does its best to explain why the Class 1 line needs to change immediately. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our Disqus comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via e-mail if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

Episode IV Actor Derek Lyons Stops By Our Research Droids Reviews!

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2012 at 08:12 PM EDT |

Jedi Temple Archives gets a lot of visitors in our Research Droids Reviews, but we become especially giddy when "big names" check them out, (like Hasbro who stole our Aayla Secura image - we digress). But how cool is it when actor Derek Lyons from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope pops in for a look to check out the review of 2007's TAC Rebel Honor Guard, the character he played in the film? Derek, thank you for stopping in. We're honored. And thank you for posting a comment with some background of your involvement with Episode IV! Review: Republic Troopers - SW [TPM 3D] - Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2012 at 04:05 AM EDT |

The 2012 line is a complete mess for archivists. The Clone Wars logo is nowhere to be found on The Clone Wars sourced Battle Packs or vehicles, only the basic figures. But you probably don't care about this detail and rather have us worry about it instead. What you should care about however is the awesome Republic Trooper Battle Packs set. Learn about it in our Research Droids Reviews and see why Hasbro could reissue this at least three more times with little tweaks. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our Disqus comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via e-mail if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.
