Is Captain Rex In Return Of The Jedi?

Posted by Mike_Taber | March 31, 2016 at 08:22 AM ET |

Dave Filoni likes to think so. Speaking at the premiere screening of the Star Wars Rebels season two finale, Filoni stated his belief that Captain Rex was present during the Battle of Endor. Filoni said,"I really do think that Rex is that guy on Endor." The character that Filoni is referring to is Nik Sant, the old, bearded rebel soldier who was a part of the Endor strike team led by Han Solo in Return of the Jedi. SlashFilm has the full story. So what do you think?

The Legacy The Legacy Collection Has Left On Aftermarket Values!

Posted by Paul | March 28, 2016 at 09:08 PM ET |

If you're new to collecting, you're probably acclimating yourself to the splendid figure selection of 2008-2010's The Legacy Collection/Legacy Collection through our FlashBack Reviews. These figures are some of Hasbro's greatest efforts (after The Vintage Collection of course), and the line produced an unprecedented array of basic figures, exclusives and multipacks. Sometimes their magnificence is overshadowed by the wonderful TVC line and often get overlooked. Because we have been adding them to our FlashBack Reviews, we have been checking aftermarket values on some of them on eBay. To say we're astounded by what we've seen is an understatement. Some of the Expanded Universe loose prices will make your knees buckle. But even common repacked or repainted figures utilizing older sculpts like Boba Fett and Padmé Amidala command ridiculous premiums too. There are also some deals to check out too. Take some time and see just what is going on with this splendid collection of action figures!

We Reach 2500 RDRs Tomorrow! And We Want To Thank You!

Posted by Paul | March 26, 2016 at 11:31 AM ET |

I honestly don't know where the last (nearly) seven (7) years has gone. But as of tomorrow, JTA will reach 2500 reviews in our database: a review every single day since May 24, 2009. Since its inception, we've amassed just shy of 11 million views in the database. That's astounding to us and I am very thankful. With all landmarks, we like to celebrate them by either introducing new categories or showcasing a truly special item. So for tomorrow, we're going to open up a brand new category of Star Wars figures that our readers have been asking us to review for a while now. Be sure to stop by tomorrow to check out the new category of reviews that we will be adding, and be sure to always comment and reminisce with us on the previous items already reviewed. I want to personally thank all of our readers who have made the column what it is today. From the emails received to the comments posted, it's nice to get the encouraging feedback from you. I am thankful for the breadth of readership we have, from fans all over the globe including non-English speaking countries, from Star Wars actors to product licensees, from doctors to neurosurgeons, from lawyers to arbitrators, from professionals to homemakers, from scholars and professors to editors from chefs to custodians, from unemployed to employed. You're all an equally special part of the JTA family and we're honored you share your time with us. Thank you!

Review: Kanan Jarrus - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figure (19)

Posted by Paul | March 20, 2016 at 08:21 AM ET |

The Black Series [Phase III] Kanan Jarrus 6" figure is ALSO divine. He may not be completely perfect either, but Hasbro added their creative magic to this figure by including the two part lightsaber hilt and a believable realistic likeness of the animated character. Sadly, many will pass on him because of who he is. Learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today! Review: Ahsoka Tano - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figure (20)

Posted by Paul | March 19, 2016 at 03:14 PM ET |

The Black Series [Phase III] Ahsoka Tano 6" figure is divine. We won't call it "perfect" but we don't know who will be able to claim that this figure isn't excellent. In fact, she may just be the best figure of 2016. See why we're head over heals about a character we actually don't even care too much about in our Research Droids Reviews today! New Target Displays: Ask and Ye May Receive

Posted by Chuck | March 19, 2016 at 02:48 PM ET |

JTA reader Chris writes in to give us a head's up about the new Target displays, which may not yet be out...

This is just to put a word out there. The new stand alone displays that Target has for SW figures is being held in the back because some workers think they are not supposed to be out before the DVD release. There is no official Target hold on this display. So, people should ask the employees about them as they are stocked with new 6", 3.75s, armor ups and 2-packs.

They're certainly not in my area at the moment. Then again, nothing is.! Bill also reports that new Two-Packs and basic figures are hitting hard as well!

Sideshow Collectibles is previewing their latest Premium Format Figure. Click here for a look at the upcoming Sandtrooper. Look for the pre-order Next Thursday, March 24th.

If you missed out on the first run of the Hot Toys Han Solo and Chewbacca, they are both available again for a second round on Sideshow Collectibles' web site! These were highly popular and sold out fast the last time. You can pick up Han Solo or Chewbacca separately, or grab the set right here! Thanks JTA reader John L. for spotting this re-release!

Gentle Giant posted 2 new Star Wars pre-orders: The Force Awakens First Order Flametrooper Mini Bust and The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader. The Darth Vader statue looks to be similar to the Darth Vader with the light-up base released in 2007 but possibly without the light-up base (there's no button on the back). The scale is also listed at 1/8th scale and 7 inches tall. The original release is closer to 1/6th scale and 11" tall. The Black Series [Phase III] Wave 6 Hits Maryland!

Posted by Paul | March 17, 2016 at 12:38 PM ET |

Here come the wave 6 reports again! This time JTA reader marceleisle has found the Luke/Ahsoka/Kanan TBS6 wave in Maryland!

It looks like our Research Droids are once again hard at work infiltrating the firewall to Hasbro's deepest secrets of their popular toy line. We've just learned that there will be another The Black Series voice changer helmet, sort of like the popular Kylo Ren one that was released last year. Currently, it has a code name of SIOC which makes us believe it could very well be one of the "shark" people. But anything is possible. Stay tuned as we continue to follow this and similar stories....

UPDATE: We've learned what the helmet will be!

They've reduced their pre-order price! JTA sponsor NJ Toys And Collectibles have reduced the pre-order price of the Takodana Encounter multipack to $24.99 which is the new suggested retail price for this set. They only have 29 units left to pre-order, so hurry!

Posted by Mike_Taber | March 15, 2016 at 09:45 PM ET |

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has narrowed down their search for a young Han Solo to a handful of actors. The shortlist is said to include Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Alden Ehreneich (Hail, Caesar!), and Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction). Disney has reportedly met with over 2,500 actors but it appears they are now in the final stages of casting.

Ford And Spielberg To Return For Indiana Jones 5

Posted by Mike_Taber | March 15, 2016 at 09:18 PM ET |

Earlier today, Disney announced that Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will make a fifth Indiana Jones film. The latest entry in the iconic franchise will be released July 19th, 2019. There has been no word if George Lucas will have any involvement, although it seems unlikely at this point. Just keep Shia LaBeouf away from this movie at all costs. I don't know about you, but I'll be there opening day for this one! Check out Variety for the story!

New TBS 3.75" Confirmed + There Is Another....

Posted by Paul | March 14, 2016 at 08:11 AM ET |

Official Hasbro images are circling the web and social media confirming that both the recently revealed Han Solo and General organa are legit products. Also, a new R5 unit has been revealed. Special thanks to all who wrote in about this confirmation.

UPDATE: As we all could easily see, the astromech droid utilizes Disney's Build A Droid and not Hasbro's. We did however worry that Hasbro was adopting the "wireless" feet. However, our friends at Yakface.com have updated their post stating that these images are NOT from Hasbro. So, we don't know what this means for Leia and Han. Will Disney be getting an exclusive with all of these figures? It's looking more and more like this could be the case.

First Order Stormtrooper Squad Leader

Our Research Droids are hard at work trying to constantly uncover Hasbro's plans for The Black Series [Phase III] line. But what if this line actually becomes The Black Series [Phase IV] this Fall? Our sources are saying there is a definitely a strong possibility that we could see a revised line look, although we don't know what wave exactly could or will trigger this. Perhaps all of these (except wave A of course), but perhaps just the Rogue One concentrated waves. Anyway, we've also uncovered a rough outlook on what we can expect in approximately four different waves coming this Fall. Remember that this spy report is VERY early and things can and will change, but we have proof that the characters listed are all coming. The estimation here is HOW they're coming. Lastly, always wait for Hasbro to confirm it before you run with it. However, since we confirmed with Hasbro that all figures revealed at Toy Fair would not be coming until this Fall, we feel strongly that there will likely be little room for error. Now, we don't even have the official names for some of these characters, but between recent reports identifying what the code names mean we revealed months ago, we now have a pretty good idea specifically what's coming, save for a few exceptions. Interested? Then click through for more! Oh, potential SPOILERS here, so beware.

Darth Vader

For those of you who watched my interview with host Paul Perrello on Philly Factor recently, you may recall that I was asked what started it all for me with Star Wars collecting. The year was 1979. I was 5 years old in kindergarten at Barclay Brook elementary school in Monroe Township, New Jersey. My classmate Vito Ferrante, today a successful architect in Pittsburgh PA, brought in the Kenner Luke Skywalker: X-wing Fighter Pilot figure for show and tell one day. It captured my instant attention and admiration. Unable to get the figure out of my head, I clearly remember the following July I received a whole bunch of Star Wars figures (including this one) with my Carvel Wonder Woman ice cream cake for my 6th birthday. (more....)

Review: Fifth Brother, Inquisitor - TFA - Build A Weapon (Space)

Posted by Paul | March 09, 2016 at 12:45 AM ET |

The Fifth Brother, Inquisitor figure is not bad. But do you think it was the best choice for a Rebels action figure now that come so few and far between in the basic figure line? Abrams Admits Crucial Moment In TFA Was Probably A Mistake

Posted by Mike_Taber | March 08, 2016 at 08:06 PM ET |

One of the most controversial scenes in The Force Awakens came at the end of the film. SPOILERS FOLLOW. After returning from Starkiller base, Chewbacca walked right past Leia and Leia hugged Rey instead. There was no moment between Leia and Chewbacca following the death of Han Solo. In an interview with Slash Film, Abrams admitted "That was probably one of the mistakes I made." Abrams went on to explain the rationale behind Leia hugging Rey instead of Chewbacca and conceded that it felt almost like a slight, "which was definitely not the intention." Bob Iger Talks Han Solo Standalone Film

Posted by Mike_Taber | March 08, 2016 at 08:04 PM ET |

On Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger provided an update on the upcoming Han Solo standalone film. Iger confirmed that the Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed film is an "origin story about Han Solo and Chewy." Although widely assumed, this our first conformation that Chewbacca will play a major role in the movie. So there you have it. We'll be getting a Han Solo and Chewbacca origin story in 2018 (which still sounds like a terrible idea). Get the full story after the jump!

Review: Imperial EVO Trooper - TLC - GH 4

Posted by Paul | March 02, 2016 at 12:10 AM ET |

The Greatest Hits subset of figures in The Legacy Collection's first wave was short-lived, and Hasbro began incorporating "extra" figures like this with the BD (instead of the GH) designation after the initial four. Does this mean original allotments are finally making their way here, or is this new stock arriving? What a mess distribution is indeed!

TARGET Raffling Off BB-8 Displays?

It's Feast or Famine Out There! More TBS6 Findings

Posted by Chuck | March 01, 2016 at 01:10 PM ET |

It seems tons of new stuff is hitting pretty much everywhere, but just not everything at once! JTA reader Matthew B. sends us his report on a great find, but not everything he was looking for...

Nice find for The Black Series 6" Wave 5 in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Sadly though, not one sight of Wave 3 of the Build a Weapon line in over two months. A lot of peg warmers have been sitting there. Just need to keep on keeping on I guess.
