Most of you aren't even going to give the Death Star Trench Run exclusive a second glance because of the price. You're right, it's very expensive. But Research Droids Reviews had a reckoning after holding the new X-wing Fighter in our hands that this is a set that you're not going to want to miss. (Besides, you can get it for $79.99 through November 23rd.) The retooled vehicle is stunning. Click through to see what makes it so special! eBay Flashback: Gamorrean Guard (Vintage Versus Modern Compare)

Posted by Paul | October 31, 2011 at 01:51 PM ET |

We move on from our look at vintage carded collecting, and move toward a look at today's The Vintage Collection compared to yesteryears Kenner vintage figures. How do they compare? What figures hold a better value? For the most part, the vintage figures from yesteryear are going to outshine their modern day counterparts, but by how much? Our first look will take a look at the Gamorrean Guard. We'll continue this series on and off throughout the month! Which version will hurt your wallet more...? Will it be the Vintage version or the Modern version?

Review: Death Trooper [Gentle Giant, Ltd. Web Exclusive] - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | October 31, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

Here is a ghoulishly spooktacular Research Droids Reviews entry for you today just in time for Halloween! The Death Troopers novel didn't really resonate with hardcore Star Wars fans, but there is no denying that Gentle Giant, Ltd.'s artistic interpretation of the character in Mini Bust form is simply astonishing. The Clone Wars "Shadow Of The Dark Side" Collection In Summation

Posted by Paul | October 30, 2011 at 12:59 PM ET |

The "Shadow Of The Dark Side" phase of The Clone Wars line was definitely Hasbro's best effort yet. While some of the super-articulation was reduced by just a few points in later sculpts, the proportions and interpretations of the characters brought forth into plastic realization were beyond incredibly impressive. Let's take a look at what the line brought us and we even hint at where it may be going. Click through for our summation on the "Shadow Of The Dark Side" line look phase of The Clone Wars line!

eBay Flashback: The Clone Wars Ambush On The Vulture's Claw

Posted by Paul | October 30, 2011 at 11:50 AM ET |

OK, so this isn't a "major" flashback, but you definitely won't be able to find it at retail ever again, especially since Battle Packs only sport three figures now. There are sometimes products released in the Star Wars or The Clone Wars toy lines that just cause too much angst and frustration and don't come close to meeting demand. One such set was the Ambush On The Vulture's Claw which includes the exclusive Gha Nacht figure (a chubby version of Bossk). The Battle Packs set is not cheap by any means and can fetch upwards of $200. But you can secure the most important figure in the set for less than $20 on eBay as famed eBay seller tunghori has "plenty" in stock for $17.99. If you don't believe that the set is going for this much, just click the image below for proof.

Review: Yoda & Clone Trooper Jek - TCW - 2 of 2

Posted by Paul | October 30, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

If you happened to witness Walmart employees opening cases of what is the focus of today's Research Droids Reviews, you probably know that this very short-lived line was called Screen Scenes. Unfortunately, the line didn't progress beyond the first episode of Season 1 entitled Ambush. But if you didn't, then you just think it's a cool two-pack. And that's exactly what these are. They didn't sell well, but we think they are two of the best exclusives in The Clone Wars line (red phase). Here is set 2 of 2. From Theft To Happy Collector! All In Less Than 15 Minutes!

Posted by Paul | October 29, 2011 at 11:33 AM ET |

It seems that little is sacred anymore. Theft is at an all-time high, there is no respect for others and Star Wars collectors should not have to witness what we do at the retail level. Some people are obviously out for themselves and will stomp on someone else's chances at attaining figures from The Vintage Collection. I came across a shocking discovery this morning at my local Toys R Us. I brought the travesty to the manager's attention and ended up reaping my own benefits in return. Click through to see what happened!

Theft Again!

In Part 3 of our look back at Vintage Carded collecting we take a look at the Droids line of figures. This series had twice as many figures as the Ewoks line, and almost had a series 2! While the A-Wing Pilot and Boba Fett were pretty much straight repacks, we received some pretty cool variations to our favorite two droids, as well as eight all new figures! Click each figure below to have a look... and be warned, several of these figures can get pricey! But, that's what you get with Vintage carded collecting!

Droids: A-Wing Pilot - No Current Auctions Available  Droids: Boba Fett  Droids: C-3PO  Droids: R2-D2  Droids: Jann Tosh  Droids: Jord Dusat

Droids: Kea Moll  Droids: Kez Iban  Droids: Sise Fromm  Droids: Thall Joben  Droids: Tig Fromm  Droids: Uncle Gundy

JTA reader Scott wrote into us to let everyone know that he bought two The Vintage Collection figures for $12.99 (a very good price). If you've read the circulars or are on TRU's mailing list, you know they have big plans strating today (their infamous Door Busters sales). And two of my local TRU stores are getting trucks tonight to put out new product tomorrow. It may be worth your while to trek out to your local TRU store and see what's up. Scott has also confirmed with us that he found Princess Leia (Slave Outfit) figure too, so wave 8 has hit TX too! Hold out hope everyone!

The Great Allentown Comic Con!

Posted by Paul | October 28, 2011 at 02:48 PM ET |

Northeastern PA and Lehigh Valley residents always look forward to The Great Allentown Comic Con show. This year's event is extremely Star Wars heavy and special guests including Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Tom Kane (Yoda from The Clone Wars) will be making special appearances! Click through to find out more. And be sure to look for Jedi Temple Archives staff as we'll be attending the show as well!

When we Vintage collectors think about Vintage Star Wars figures, we usually think about the figures offered on our beloved OT cardbacks. Beyond 1985's POTF series there's still some great Vintage cardback collecting to be had! In Part 2 of our Vintage Carded Flashback we look at what Hasbro has yet to delve into: The Animated Ewoks line! While not as extensive as the movie cardbacks, this is a nice subset of Vintage collecting that can still be found in full force on eBay, and is a very 'completeable' collection. Take a look at what is available for our furry, animated friends...

Special Bonus Buy At Walmart With The F/X Lightsabers

Posted by Paul | October 28, 2011 at 07:43 AM ET |

My local Walmart had an interesting product on the shelves today and it was even on sale for $29.88. It's the F/X lightsaber and as a special bonus it includes Captain Rex's roleplay blaster pistol. This isn't a bad deal at all. It's unknown if this special deal is available at TARGET and Toys R Us, maybe you out there could let us know. Click through to see it up close.

Review: Master Sev/ARC Trooper - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2)

Posted by Paul | October 28, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

Execute Order 66! Here is the last and final Order 66 (Series 2) set from TARGET and it's actually one of our most favorite. That is actually saying quite a bit because the figures are far from perfect. But Research Droids Reviews notices how carefully Hasbro paid attention to the fine nuances of the costuming of Master Sev and his back-stabbing ARC Trooper. See what you think! Review: Luminara Unduli/AT-RT Driver - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2)

Posted by Paul | October 27, 2011 at 12:35 AM ET |

Execute Order 66! Sometimes Hasbro throws in their own two cents in their exclusive products. While the Luminara Unduli/AT-RT Driver set is loosely based on the Star Wars: Republic comics, this looks to be more of a Hasbro influenced two-pack instead. But see why Research Droids Reviews believes that you'll find the best version of Luminara (realistic style) in this two-pack. Review: Emperor Palpatine/Commander Vill - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2)

Posted by Paul | October 26, 2011 at 02:55 AM ET |

Execute Order 66! Here is another set from the Series 2 group that is actually based on an actual events during Order 66 (in the Expanded Universe of course). Hasbro finds another way to introduce another member of the 501st Legion and Research Droids Reviews also makes the point that this may be the best modern replacement for an Episode VI Emperor Palpatine (until Hasbro gives us the works). The Vintage Collection (2010-2011) In Summation

Posted by Paul | October 25, 2011 at 02:42 PM ET |

No matter how frustrating it has been to find figures that make up The Vintage Collection, there is no denying how great of a collection it is. 2010 and 2011 have brought us some of the greatest figures yet out of Hasbro. 2012 seems a bit murky at the moment and hopefully that will change with the 2012 Toy Fair presentation. But let's take a few steps back and see just what goodness came our way in this splendid line. You won't want to miss this, so click through!

Don't Forget About The Revenge Of The Jedi Wave 8 Running Changes!

Posted by Paul | October 25, 2011 at 11:10 AM ET |

Wave 8 of The Vintage Collection is really starting to hit. Keep in mind that while there are only 4 newly numbered figures in this wave (Princess Leia, Han Solo, TIE Fighter Pilot and B-wing Pilot), there are also two running changes you'll want to hunt after as well: the black Rebel Commando and the VOTC Boba Fett. Click either below to check their status on eBay.

Review: Tsui Choi/BARC Trooper - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2)

Posted by Paul | October 25, 2011 at 12:10 AM ET |

Execute Order 66! Here is a set from the Series 2 group that is actually based on an actual sequence of time during Order 66 (in the Expanded Universe of course). What makes this set extra special however is it contains an all-new figure, something that isn't too common with store exclusives. (Usually at best they're retools or kit-bashed figures.) Check out this cool set of figures in today's Research Droids Reviews and see why it's a necessary purchase if you collect movie-only figures! Review: Anakin Skywalker/ARC Trooper - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2)

Posted by Paul | October 24, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

Execute Order 66! (Or in the case of Hasbro's second set of TARGET exclusives, enact Pre-Order 66!) Hasbro took a different path when it came time for a second edition of the Order 66 series and they looked deeply into the various Clone Wars multimedia events as a source of inspiration. Next up is set 2 of 6 which takes another realistic look at two more characters from Tartakovsky's Clone Wars series. Research Droids Reviews explains just how well these two figure are made. In fact, the ARC Trooper was carried forward as a basic figure in The Legacy Collection. The Rise Of Boba Fett On Sale Through October 29th

Posted by Paul | October 23, 2011 at 02:17 PM ET |

Why they act like they have an assortment of them when they're is just one is beyond our comprehension, but TRU has The Rise Of Boba Fett Ultimate Battle Packs on sale through October 29th. Interestingly, we found that our local TRU had this signage under the Death Star Trench Run set instead, but it was still too expensive for us to pick up that set. That is going to unfortunately have to be a clearance purchase only!

Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi/ARC Trooper Commander - Order 66 (Series 2)

Posted by Paul | October 23, 2011 at 12:03 AM ET |

Execute Order 66! (Or in the case of Hasbro's second set of TARGET exclusives, enact Pre-Order 66!) Hasbro took a different path when it came time for a second edition of the Order 66 series and they looked deeply into the various Clone Wars multimedia events as a source of inspiration. First up is set 1 of 6 which is a realistic look at two charcaters from Tartakovsky's Clone Wars series. See why Research Droids Reviews thinks this set has one bomb of a figure and one excellent one. (Oh, and it's one of the better updates to Captain Fordo before The Vintage Collection version of course.) The Search For Luke Skywalker - SW [SOTDS] - TARGET Exclusive

Posted by Paul | October 22, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

Hasbro comes through big time for collectors with another excellent Hoth-themed multipack that is quite a bit smaller than the 2010 TARGET exclusives, but an excellent deal nonetheless and still packed with quality. A super-articulated ball-jointed hips Han Solo is joined with the tauntaun that saved Luke's life, so what more could you want? We'll tell you. Perhaps one of the finest points of this set is that we get another stab at the previously elusive Hoth Rebel Trooper variant, but for the first time with his artillery remote, previously unavailable until now. See why Research Droids Reviews recommends why everyone should be buying this set this Fall. Star Wars Stuff Is Hitting Everywhere! Get Out There And Look!

Posted by Paul | October 21, 2011 at 04:04 PM ET |

I left work early today and did a ridiculous toy run. To my complete satisfaction, I saw new figures at every store I stopped (Toys R Us was the weakest). But wave 9 of The Vintage Collection was just swimming on store pegs. And I saw more Seripas and Captain Rex (CW62) figures than I could count. If you still are claiming you can't find anything out there now, I would have to wonder how hard you're really trying. I say that in an encouraging way. Get out there and look because now is the time. I was unable to locate wave 8, but I bet they're around the corner as well.

I just can't believe that after I handed the Kmart manager the two TVC figures with the mail-away certificates stolen out of them and UPCs ripped off that she didn't deal with the issue. They were back on the shelf for sale today. I asked for a manager again and got the same lady. As I preseneted the theft again to her she stuttered and tried to tell me that they were different figurers because they come in an assortment and they needed to find out who as doing this. Whatever. Review: TIE Fighter Pilot - TVC - VC65

Posted by Paul | October 18, 2011 at 12:15 AM ET |

TIE Fighter Pilot is a figure that should not have been released in The Vintage Collection. The sculpt needs to be retired and started from scratch again. But there is no denying how cool this figure looks on a "vintage styled" card back. See what Research Droids Reviews has to say about this aged figure. Hasbro Stole My Aayla Secura Image To Use In Their NYCC Presentation

Posted by Paul | October 17, 2011 at 09:31 PM ET |

So it seems not even Hasbro is exempt from stealing images from fan sites without proper crediting. We've caught people stealing our hard earned images before in the past, but we didn't think Hasbro would sink to the same level. I thought something looked oddly familiar about "their" Aayla Secura image in their Power Point presentation at NYCC. But my friend Chris at BanthaSkull.com helped me to realize that, well, it's indeed my image! Click through to see the proof! Shame on you Hasbro!

Review: Princess Leia (Slave Outfit) - TVC - VC64

Posted by Paul | October 17, 2011 at 12:10 AM ET |

You don't get the cool alternate display "base" with this version, but you do get Princess Leia in her slave outfit on a "vintage" card back, so that should make everything alright, right? Research Droids Reviews looks at one of the "chase" Revenge Of The Jedi figures that is sure to be a hot item at retail. It's So Ridiculous That It's Laughable!

Posted by Paul | October 15, 2011 at 06:37 PM ET |

Toys R Us lies. OK, that's too harsh. They made a mistake. But with their ambiguous week by week sale ads that never explain well what is actually on sale, this kind of error is just really expected. I found this at a Toys R Us store I visit everyday. They just today put up signage for The Rise Of Boba Fett Ultimate Battle Packs set for $25.00 off. The sale expired September 5, 2011. Click through to see what I found!

Helmet Size Matters Not? Judge His Helmet Size Do You?

Posted by Paul | October 14, 2011 at 10:27 PM ET |

One figure raising a lot of eyebrows is the now-to-be-released-in-April 2012 Clone Trooper (501st Legion). Is the helmet too big or does it look OK? Hasbro really did a hit-it-out-of-the-park job on the paint job, but we don't know what to think of his helmet size. What do you think? Let us know by clicking through to check him out and leave comments!

Review: Rebel Trooper [Gunner] - TSC - SAGA 046

Posted by Paul | October 10, 2011 at 01:35 AM ET |

We're all excited about the upcoming The Vintage Collection General Cracken figure coming in 2012, but it's quite possible we already have him (and if not at the very least we have one of his troopers) in The Saga Collection. Research Droids Reviews points out that someone who looks a lot like this action figure is either Cracken or is another character seated behind Nien Nunb and Lando Calrissian in the Millenium Falcon cockpit during the Battle of Endor. Check out the running change variation of the Rebel Trooper (SAGA 046) figure and see what you think! We took a close-up picture of the back of Ponda Baba (Walrus Man) so you can see three upcoming TVC figures up close: Aayla Secura, Nom Anor and Clone Trooper (501st Legion). While they aren't shown in high resolution, it should give you a slightly better idea of what's coming in early 2012. Found! The Vintage Collection Wave 9 Hits Philly Kmart!

Posted by Paul | October 09, 2011 at 01:45 PM ET |

After nearly 48 hours of frantically searching for wave 9 of The Vintage Collection and traveling close to 100 miles in the last three days looking high and low, I decided to walk into my local Kmart (that NEVER has anything) 1.5 miles from my house and would you be a complete and undisturbed wave 9 case of The Vintage Collection was there to greet me? And the bonus is that they rang up for $9.19 instead of the marked $10.99. Am I really calling that a "bonus"?! Look for new RDRs on this wave starting Wednesday! (Oh, and our Facebook fans will be happy to know that we'll be posting updates early for you.) Click through to see what's coming in the next 48 hours for YOU!

Review: Rebel Trooper [Black] - TSC - SAGA 046

Posted by Paul | October 09, 2011 at 12:20 AM ET |

We really want to know why Hasbro didn't tweak the arms on The Saga Collection's Rebel Trooper figures. Had they done that we would probably have in our collections what can be considered definitive takes of Endor soldiers for our collections. Research Droids Reviews quickly points out what a fabulous job Hasbro did on the premium leg articulation, but it becomes moot since they fall flat from the waist up. The Clone Wars Figures Coming In Fast And Furious Now?

Posted by Paul | October 08, 2011 at 11:33 AM ET |

The Clone Wars wave 22 which includes Savage Opress (CW55), Clone Commander Jet (CW38), Hondo Ohnaka (CW39), ARF Trooper (CW56) and Plo Koon (CW53) have been found in extremely high numbers in both TARGET and Walmart in the Philly area this morning. (And we have heard from one of our colleagues that the same is true in MN.) Savage Opress is the figure being picked clean off of the pegs obviously, but if you get out there now, you'll likely be able to fill some holes in your collection. If you find an El-Les or Clone Trooper Hevy swinging from the pegs, you've just been beaten to the punch by a previous collector. On an unrelated note, the Republic Mobile AV-7 Cannon is also showing up at Walmart and doesn't scan at the register. We were able to pick it up for $19.97! Click through to see what we found!

Review: Luke Skywalker [Combat Poncho] - TSC - Basic (SAGA 044)

Posted by Paul | October 08, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

We have a more definitive version of Luke Skywalker in his combat poncho gear in the Battle For Endor Legacy Collection Battle Packs set now, but this version from The Saga Collection is still one of our most favorite figures from Hasbro (when completely assembled) and is still a quality figure by any standard. Research Droids Reviews will hopefully convince you of this. Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! More Glimmers Of Hope At TARGET

Posted by Paul | October 06, 2011 at 09:54 PM ET |

I told you that as soon as I published my rant I would find stuff. It's nothing great, but I wanted to let you know that wave 22 of The Clone Wars figures has made a few additional appearances in the Philly area at TARGET. Now if I can just find the other two waves. And for the record, I still feel my rant is still warranted. One or two additional store finds doesn't remedy the distribution issues.

Big Dose Of Star Wars In The Big Bang Theory

Posted by Paul | October 05, 2011 at 07:55 AM ET |

Thanks to the blessed curse of DVR, many viewers find that they watch their favorite shows much after the fact, sometimes even weeks later. But I had a few moments to catch up on a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory. While most episodes have some sort of Star Wars reference, last week's episode was a little heavier than others. Look for the Ralph McQuarrie Bounty Hunters lithograph, 12" Aayla Secura and Premium Format Princess Leia. Oh, and you can't miss that big illuminated green lightsaber of course! Review: C-3PO With Ewok Throne - TSC - SAGA 042

Posted by Paul | October 05, 2011 at 12:10 AM ET |

One of the greatest surprises announced for The Saga Collection was the C-3PO With Ewok Throne action figure. It's announcement would mean that we would be getting our first C-3PO action figure with articulated knees to collectors. Today's Research Droids Reviews points out things like three unique variations of this figure (you probably only know of two) and why this figure is so important to the evolution of all C-3PO action figures. Posted by Paul | October 04, 2011 at 12:15 AM ET |

Review: Chief Chirpa - TSC - SAGA 039

Posted by Paul | October 03, 2011 at 12:05 AM ET |

If you were a collector in 2006 during The Saga Collection, you know that Chief Chirpa revolutionized the way Ewok action figures were made in the basic figure line. He didn't come with ball-joints or anything like that, but Hasbro really watched the scale and paid attention to all of the details. And Research Droids Reviews points out why this figure is so important to the Ewok action figures we get today. Consider Chief Chirpa the catalyst for change as far as Ewoks are concerned. Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Posted by Paul | October 02, 2011 at 12:08 AM ET |

You're tired of the Star Wars basic action figure distribution woes and so are we. Thank the Maker we're finally all finished. Because we added them in a way that isn't by any means numerical or chronological, we have put together a quick reference post that arranges all of them by their wave order. Click through for more!

Review: Plo Koon [Cold Weather] - TCW - CW53

Posted by Paul | October 02, 2011 at 12:01 AM ET |

Hasbro released two Expanded Universe takes of two different The Clone Wars characters this year. Kit Fisto and now the brave Plo Koon come to us donning a winter coat and snow shoes to protect them from the harsh weather. And they fit in the line wonderfully (and seamlessly). You'll see in today's Research Droids Reviews why you'll want to see Hasbro use this head sculpt for all future animated Plo Koon action figures. Please feel free to leave your own comments in our new Disqus comments section about this item and as always, please vote in our poll! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! This should be something gives us an empathetic perspective to our American readers, right? Click through to see his recent goodies!
