Review: Plourr Ilo/Dllr Nep - LC - Comic Packs

Posted by Paul | March 31, 2010 at 12:05 AM EDT |

Nothing spells controversy like an exclusive Comic Packs set, does it? The good news is that it has finally been released and the final results are quite impressive! Research Droids Reviews looks at this set in detail and offers some insight on its subsequent "banning" by Walmart. (Hm, we wonder why they still carry CDs with "Parental Advisory" stickers on them, but not Star Wars collectibles with warnings?) Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Research Droids Reviews Under Construction! Update #6

Posted by Paul | March 30, 2010 at 08:51 AM EDT |

JTA's Research Droids Reviews are Under Construction! August is a far way off for all the new product and while we will continue to present you with a new review each day, we decided to "spiffy up" some of our older reviews by adding new photo galleries and new edits of the reviews as well as other collector-friendly notes.

Today's update is all about The Empire Strikes Back (well, everything except the Build A Droid). But this wave offered collectors some really great figures and we think it gave us definitive versions of some of them. Be sure to check this update thoroughly and you must check out our new gallery of U-3PO featuring eight side by side comparison shots of the champagne versus silver colors. Be sure to spend some time and check out the hard work we're doing for you behind the scenes. We will be doing periodic updates of our older reviews until we're done, so keep checking back with us. Star Wars Action News - Episode 238

Posted by Chuck | March 30, 2010 at 07:57 AM EDT |

When Hasbro recently announced the end of the Comic Pack line of figures, which give collectors and kids a bargain having two action figures and the comic in which they appeared for one low price, Star Wars fans were understandably upset. However, Hasbro is letting the series go out with a bang, releasing some hotly anticipated characters that factor big in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, from the comics to the novels to the video games. Figures such as Exar Kun and Blackhole make EU fans happy, while the clone 2-packs are an army-builder's dream come true.

Posted by Chuck | March 27, 2010 at 02:25 PM EDT |

Daniel Logan will be reprising his role as young Boba Fett in the upcoming season 2 series finale of The Clone Wars! We met with Daniel at SDCC last year and asked him about reprising his role as Boba Fett in the live action series... He was pretty coy about it and it looks like he knew more than he was letting on after all! It's not the live action series, but we are thrilled he is the one voicing Fett! Read on for all the details!

Found! Last Wave Of Comic Packs! These Are Awesome!

Posted by Paul | March 20, 2010 at 01:07 PM EDT |

We are ecstatic to report that we found the very last wave (ever?) of the Comic Packs in Toys R Us today. Had Hasbro opened up the red phase of the Legacy Collection with these sets first (instead of only 3 new ones and 5 straight repacks), we speculate that the Comic Packs line would still be alive today. It is a fantastic set of characters that both movie-only and EU only fans will both adore. Because we love, you, our readers, we have taken photos front and back of all of them for your enjoyment. You know how last waves work people, so if you see these, grab them immediately! Look for these to be added to our Research Droids Reviews very shortly. Look! Resurgence Of The Jedi Packaging Variation!

Posted by Paul | March 15, 2010 at 09:23 PM EDT |

JTA aficionado and very good friend Jim Decke writes in with interesting news about a very noticeable packaging variation on the Resurgence Of The Jedi Battle Packs set. It would be easiest just to click through and see the differences, but in short, C-3PO goes from sitting down to standing up and R2-D2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi switch positions so that R2 can more easily project the beautiful Princess Leia (hologram) closer to the table. And you can always check our Research Droids Review on this awesome set HERE as well. Click through to check out this latest development! P.S. Jim, I need your address! E-mail me!

Review: Storm Commando/General Weir - Comic Packs

Posted by Paul | March 14, 2010 at 01:52 PM EDT |

What a shame and what a pity. The Comic Packs line is dead or at the very best is going into retirement. Research Droids Reviews looks at one of the final releases which also happens to be a Walmart exclusive. We think that between all the poor distribution, the uninventive choices and all the annoying repacks that it makes sense why the line is going bye-bye. This is indeed unfortunate because some of the sets were pretty good, this one was not. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! New Bar Codes On Carry Forward Figures (Wave 12)

Posted by Paul | March 12, 2010 at 09:14 AM EDT |

When we found the remix case of Legacy Collection's The Empire Strikes Back wave at Walmart this morning, we noticed an interesting move by Hasbro that the figures each have a unique new bar code sticker affixed over the bar code on the figure's insert. The numbers are different than the Blockbuster Value! sets stickers. We're not entirely sure what is going on here, but wanted to pass the news along to you.

UPDATE: We posted the UPC numbers of the original releases versus the Wave 12 remix versions. Click through to check it out!

Review: Watto/R2-T0 - TAC - Droid Factory

Posted by Paul | March 12, 2010 at 01:55 AM EDT |

Do you believe that a great paint job can make a 10 year old figure look like a figure made with today's technology? It's true. The Watto/R2-T0 Droid Factory set from the 30 (77-07) line made a figure from 1999 look like a figure from 2008 and his companion droid was nothing to sneeze at either.
