TBS Darth Vader (#26) Is Our Most Successful Review To Date

Posted by Paul | August 31, 2014 at 10:57 PM ET |

It's official. In less than a month The Black Series Darth Vader (#26) Research Droids Review is now our most successfully performing review to date. We estimate an astounding 6600+ unique visitors checked it out.... and it has already skyrocketed into the Top 150 RDRs in our database of almost 2000 other reviews.... with many reviews that had years to gain reads. We just wanted to take a second to thank all of you who checked it out. If we thought that there would be one figure that would have remained completely controversial free, it would have unequivocally been this one. Sadly, that didn't happen. But hopefully we were successful in steering you to an action figure that will bring you more happiness than many of the figures Hasbro has released in recent memory.

Review: Fode And Beed (Podrace Announcers) - POTJ - Basic

Posted by Paul | August 29, 2014 at 12:35 AM ET |

A good figure, but a terribly annoying character, or do we saying annoying "characters"? The Fode And Beed (Podrace Announcers) figure is a tremendous update to the 2-Headed Announcer pack-in figure from the Episode I line, but will you still want it for your own collection? UPDATE: Deluxe-Sized Mission Series Set Listing Removed!

Posted by Paul | August 28, 2014 at 09:43 PM ET |

Toys R Us Canada online has listed something called Jedi Reveal Mission Series Pack. While it could be something we have already seen before, we're inclined to say "no" because it retails for $19.99 which makes us believe it's a format outside of the standard Mission Series line. Time will obviously reveal all, but take a look at more of the details of what might be coming. (Product pictures not shown.) Special thanks to JTA reader Ken for the alert.

UPDATE: Interesting! This listing has been removed from Canada's TRU.com website!

Review: Luke Skywalker's X-wing - TSC - Toys R Us Exclusive

Posted by Paul | August 26, 2014 at 12:35 AM ET |

Although an admirable effort, the 2002 Star Wars "Saga" Luke Skywalker's X-wing Fighter just wasn't up to snuff. Thankfully, Hasbro made all of their ills right with the stunning 2006 The Saga Collection Luke Skywalker's X-wing, which not only included an incredible update to the vehicle complete with removable swamp moss, the set also contained a nearly all-new Luke Skywalker figure in addition to a Ralph McQuarrie inspired Dragonsnake. And the kicker? It only set you back $45 back in the day. We HOPE you have this stunning set already, but if you don't, learn about it now with a cool 60+ image gallery and more in our Research Droids Reviews today. It's big, it's beautiful and you're gonna love it. But you won't love its illusory qualities because it weighs about a tenth of how it appears. The insubstantial Imperial Probe Droid is bittersweet. Imperial Probe Droid

After my review of the stunning The Black Series Darth Vader (#26) figure, it appears that not all reviews on other sites are equally glowing. I am not sure at this point if it’s a conscious effort to devalue what merits the figure does possess, to be contrary (again), or to be cranky, but I just can’t write one jeremiad after another defending its worth and value in the collector line. So this will be the last. It would be a disservice to you for me to badmouth this figure. It is the most exciting Hasbro action figure we have seen since the TVC Gamorrean Guard. That’s my final answer. If the head pops off a little too easily, it's by no means a deal-breaker. At all. To rave about embarrassing Saga Legends and Mission Series figures to then demean/tear apart and flunk/fail what is Hasbro’s greatest Darth Vader figure ever because on some/many samples have a loose head joint is completely laughable in my eyes. As far as I am concerned, talking trash about this figure is very misleading to our cherished readers. I don't even believe that the critics believe the negative things they're saying about Darth Vader. And sadly my explanation of how to resolve the issue is seemingly falling on deaf ears. (more....)

Amazon.com has both Boba Fett and Stormtrooper Six Inch figures for a reasonable price (for now). If you are still needing these and haven't had luck at retail this might be a good time to secure them! Click the images below for direct links.

Those contrarian-loving 5POA people are gonna have lots of 'splaining to do! Now that the budget line is creeping up dangerously close in price to the "collector line" what ever will parents/gift givers do now?! Click through for more!

Based on what Hasbro revealed/let slip at New York Toy Fair this past February, the anticipation was very high and cautious optimism was felt by the collecting community for what Hasbro would reveal at San Diego Comic Con. But after the presentation ended, most of us felt that we didn’t need new underwear. I will be the first to admit that. Despite not losing bodily control, I still however was pleasantly surprised by what Hasbro offered. A ton of rumors that had been floating through the air were finally confirmed. And as I began to think why I didn’t do happy dances like I did in the past (most notably SDCC 2009), I realized that all of the rumors JTA has posted may have made us all (that’s us included just to clarify) have unrealistically high expectations. So, I decided to mill through the news archives at JTA to see just where we’re at with the rumor lists and break down where we are with Hasbro: the rumored versus the confirmed, to see how many are still outstanding. Click through for more.

JTA reader and friend Darth Chuck sends us more images on this strange TARGET caper: miscellaneous Star Wars figures arriving piecemeal right off of the truck. Look what arrived today. It's no wonder no one can find stuff. Why aren't full cases arriving? Click through for more!

TARGET Marks Up Star Wars Figures

Posted by Paul | August 17, 2014 at 09:36 PM ET |

Well, it's official. The moment TARGET starts getting new Star Wars stuff they mark it up. Likely just part off the new module reset, click through to see how much your Star Wars figures may be costing you in the very near future.

Your truly has been "stalking" a local Walmart since about November 2012. It was one of the biggest victims of what collectors "un-affectionately" hail as "The Debacle of 2012". In the summer of 2013, it did receive the inaugural wave of The Black Series, which many figures from that wave sat and rotted for years, along with the Saga Legends wave 1. Just yesterday, for the first time ever, this particular location received a "new" case of wave 3. And would believe they rang up for $7.00 each (on clearance). If anyone thinks that "big box" retail should still have the right to sell these figures, well, I frankly don't know what to say to you. This is an extreme example, but it's not like other locations are rolling in a fantastic selection of the figures I want anyway. Click through for more.

SDCC Exclusive Jabba The Hutt's Throne Room Sets Arriving Non-Mint

Posted by Paul | August 17, 2014 at 07:22 PM ET |

We have been receiving unhappy reports from readers that Hasbro Toy Shop is haphazardly shipping out the SDCC Jabba The Hutt's Throne Room in boxes that are much too big and contain very little supporting packaging materials. JTA reader Mike C. sends us proof that these aren't arriving in mint condition. But I am not sure if any of us expected that they would. Click through for a closer look.

Review: Darth Vader (Revenge Of The Sith) - Real Action Heroes

Posted by Paul | August 17, 2014 at 01:05 AM ET |

Yesterday you saw what a junky Episode III Darth Vader 12-Inch Figure looks like, so today tune into our Research Droids Reviews to study what an incredibly fine interpretation of a one-sixth scale Darth Vader figure based on his appearance from Revenge Of The Sith should be like. It makes us almost as happy as The Black Series Episode III Darth Vader (#26) figure.... almost. The glorious Darth Vader (Revenge Of The Sith) Real Action Heroes even includes a pretty neat "crispy" Anakin Skywalker portrait, albeit not 100% screen accurate. Check out this figure right now! Posted by Paul | August 11, 2014 at 12:40 AM ET |

UPDATE: Photographic proof added!

If you thought that the Real Action Heroes C-3PO was good, wait until you see R2-D2, complete with electronics as well. After one inaccurate R2-D2 after the next in the Hasbro line, can we tell you how brilliant it is to see the panel outlines and details you never knew existed finally visible on this popular astromech droid? (It's the greatest thing ever.) Again, Sideshow Collectibles is going to have to work very hard to beat this version. See this one-sixth scale in its full glory in our Research Droids Reviews today! Walmart Plan-O-Gram Revealed

Posted by Paul | August 09, 2014 at 09:57 PM ET |

JTA reader and friend Jamie D. from Canada snaps pictures of Walmart's upcoming reset. See way up close what their plans are! Click through for more!

There are often times when licensees should not solicit their items until the production figures are available. This directly applies to Medicom Toys' Real Action Heroes C-3PO. He didn't sell well initially, but that's because the prototype was shown in the solicitation images and not the finished figure. And it was horrible. (We show that original image in our review today.) What collectors need to know however is that C-3PO is one of the greatest one-sixth scale interpretations of this character we have ever seen. And Sideshow is really going to have to work hard to make their upcoming 1:6 Scale Figure interpretation better because the RAH Medicom figure sets the bar so high It's all in our Research Droids Reviews today with light-up features and all! What An Almost Complete TARGET Reset Should Look Like

Posted by Paul | August 08, 2014 at 10:12 PM ET |

JTA reader Jub Goobles sends us in a great picture of a pretty much finished TARGET reset. I haven't been able to find any completed resets in my area. While it's nice to see some new product, it just doesn't come close to the days of TSC, TAC, TLC/LC or TVC. The best thing in this photo for me? The dangling/peg-warming TVC Luke Skywalker (Hoth Outfit) figure! Why is that even peg-warming!?

Good luck on your hunts!

Posted by Paul | August 08, 2014 at 01:20 AM ET |

We switch gears today and analyze the gorgeous Han Solo (Ultimate Unison) figure, which is part of the premium sub-line of Real Action Heroes by Medicom Toys and Enterbay. You pay a large chunk of money for an incredibly sculpted and ultimately realistic head sculpt, but is the value here? We're inclined to say "yes". Rethinking How To Count Articulation Points

Posted by Paul | August 06, 2014 at 08:22 AM ET |

Jedi Temple Archives has recently adopted a new method of calculating articulation based on conversations we have had with peers. We don’t discount that it’s “thinking” outside of the box, but we try to strive for the most accurate of details, even if it's not "popular" or if it breaks "tradition". But one thing is for sure: it has created controversy. (more....)

It's a wrap! Thank you for making our exclusive look at The Black Series wave 5 a roaring success. And we're thrilled that most of you see eye to eye with us regarding the stunning Darth Vader figure from this wave as well. We also thank those of you who spread the word via various forums and what not. We got quite a bit of traffic from places we didn't even know existed! We do hope we can provide you with another sneak peek of upcoming figures again soon! Thank you again! If you did miss any of the four-day marathon, please click any thumbnail below to be taken to this wave of figures.

Review: Wedge Antilles [Snowspeeder Pilot] - TBS [P1] - Basic (#29)

Posted by Paul | August 04, 2014 at 12:05 AM ET |

We are continuing to plug through the web's very first and extremely intense look at The Black Series wave 5, the final wave in the first phase of The Black Series line! Next up is Wedge Antilles as he appeared during the Battle of Hoth in his snowspeeder outfit. He turned out pretty great as well. He is also the last figure to show you before we reveal the greatest figure from this wave... and the greatest interpretation of "that" charcater in 3.75" scale ever. (You should know we're not hyping that up at all.) See the incredible Wedge Antilles in our Research Droids Reviews today! Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

As you know, Jedi Temple Archives is going to be your supplier of choice and with each daily Research Droids Reviews/Visual Guides reveal we publish you will be guaranteed to receive a geeky rush. This is because we are providing the collecting community with the web's very first and extremely intense look at The Black Series wave 5, the final wave in the first phase of The Black Series line way before they're due to hit the USA! While all of the figures are exceptional, please know that we have saved the greatest figure for last. (And we're not hyping that up at all. It's the hard truth....) We hope you have enjoyed what you have seen so far, but more cool stuff will continue to be revealed as we now showcase the only figure from the wave that's a first time offering: Sergeant Doallyn Brock Starsher Jabba's Skiff Guard. Angry [That They Are] Birds And Not 3.75-inch Action Figures

Posted by Paul | August 02, 2014 at 09:40 PM ET |

Because new stuff is hitting retail now, I stopped in my local TARGET. I found nothing, but one of the worst things Hasbro has ever made caught my eye. And I began shaking my head thinking to myself why these couldn't be 3.75" action figures. Imagine what it would be like to walk into a store and see these characters in 3.75" scale. (more....)

Review: Ree-Yees - The Black Series [P1] - Basic (#28)

Posted by Paul | August 02, 2014 at 12:01 AM ET |

Forgive this metaphor as we don't condone drug use of any kind, but Star Wars collecting can be viewed by many as a type of drug addiction, with each new action figure release serving as the latest dose of plastic crack. Starting today, for the next four days Jedi Temple Archives is going to be your dealer and each daily Research Droids Reviews/Visual Guides reveal will be your hit for the day because what we are presenting is one incredible wave of figures: The Black Series wave 5. We're not posting them all at once and all links to the other figures will be dead, so snooping/back-door entry will be moot. We're making you come back each day until we're done, where we have saved the greatest figure for last. (We're not exaggerating about that in the least either....) Are you curious? Are you excited? Please enjoy the web's very first and extremely intense look at The Black Series wave 5, the final wave in the first phase of The Black Series line! Lets start with Ree-Yees who has had about a decade and a half in between each of its action figure releases throughout the history of the basic figure line. This drunk Gran is the focus of our Research Droids Reviews today! Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

You Just Never Know What Might Show Up Next....

Posted by Paul | August 01, 2014 at 03:37 PM ET |

Just because we finished up showcasing The Black Series wave 4 doesn’t mean that we’re done adding brand new Star Wars figures into our Research Droids Reviews and Visual Guides. So be here right after midnight (EDT) for more! And you will likely want to be here to see what's up next....

The rumor of the 18 figure case assortment getting cancelled is true from only a certain point of view. As we had alluded to in previous posts, Hasbro is moving towards a "solid" case assortment approach. In order to make this as successful as possible, Hasbro has indeed cancelled all orders for vendors who chose the 18 individual figure case assortment (1 per each figure) option. That being said, vendors who ordered the 18 different solid figure case assortments did not have them cancelled (i.e. all 18 figures are STILL coming). It looks more and more like Hasbro is going to stretch out this originally-intended 18 figure wave into three (3) six figure wave assortments instead. And by wave assortments we really mean wave groupings since they will be solid case packs. That is the latest as of this moment. But the way changes are coming in left and right, expect a few more revisions along the way.

Help A Fellow Collector Out While Filling Holes In Your Collection

Posted by Paul | August 01, 2014 at 01:00 PM ET |

We have a fellow JTA community member in need. Leland Newhauser, as known as Daddy Timelord in our comments, has to unload a large portion of his collection. To avoid unnecessary fees, he is trying to seek out fellow members in the community so he can ensure he can raise the most amount of money possible. I personally know Leland and can assure you your transaction will run flawlessly smooth and I have already secured some pieces from his collection for myself. He has plenty of Sideshow Collectibles, Gentle Giant Ltd. and Hasbro (including an awesome collection of The Vintage Collection figure which based on our comments many of you need). Choose from all this and more including many exclusives. If you need some pieces, would you do your best to help him out?

The Black Series Line Just Can't Handle The Pressure!

Posted by Paul | August 01, 2014 at 07:11 AM ET |

You may want to inspect the new The Black Series Deluxe figures hitting retail as we speak. JTA reader Michael W. gives us photographic evidence that the 6" figures (in some instances) are suffering a similar fate to the 3.75" version where the visor is collapsing under the pressure of the bubble. Hasbro, ya gotta give your figures more breathing room in the bubble! Check it out by clicking through for more!
