Kithaba's Killer Kolor Kontroversy!

Posted by Paul | April 26, 2012 at 09:17 AM ET |

OK, this is another "what the heck" moment with Hasbro. I don't understand the reason behind changing Kithaba's bandana to bright red from the original brown version, other than to match the "composite" image on the card front. While I still see a smidgen of reddish color in the bandana in the film stills (you can see them too by clicking through), there is no way one can say that his pants match his bandana like the newly "corrected" Hasbro version does. I don't know about you, but I will be hunting after brown versions! It's mind blowing to me that they would exert the energy to "fix" this and NOT the glaring yellow ball-jointed elbows. But what do I know? In perfect timing, we also review Kithaba (Skiff Guard) in our Research Droids Reviews today. Check it out and see if you can find a spoof to an even bigger film than Star Wars in the gallery! Leave your own thoughts in our comments!

Review: Kithaba (Skiff Guard) - TVC - VC56

Posted by Paul | April 26, 2012 at 12:10 AM ET |

Kenner confused the collecting community with the vintage Barada figure. But we didn't know we were confused until the line started again with The Power Of The Force "2" line. Now Kithaba (Skiff Guard) [mostly] clears the air, but is the vintage figure truly updated now? That answrers lies between yes and no. Do you want to see what we're talking about here? Then check in with our Research Droids Reviews and see what you can take away from it. It Looks Like Hasbro Updated Logray (Ewok Medicine Man).... Again!

Posted by Paul | April 25, 2012 at 06:58 PM ET |

Back in August 2011, I reported a noticeable running change on The Vintage Collection Logray (Ewok Medicine Man) figure. You can see that report HERE. But there is another update. It seems as if Hasbro may have tweaked the figure further by removing the face "line markings" completely. Could this version be part the reissued wave now showing up in 2012? JediDefender.com has a new update on this figure, so click HERE to check it out!

UPDATE: Jesse from JediDefender.com emailed me to confirm that the "unlined" Logray is definitely from the new case assortments! We have a new variation to find folks! Thanks Jesse!

Review: Dr. Evazan (Cantina Patron) - TVC - VC57

The definitive update to Dr. Evazan was a long time coming, but he's finally here. See in our Research Droids Reviews why this is an absolute must-have. Put This In Your Pipe And Smoke It!

Posted by Paul | April 24, 2012 at 08:53 AM ET |

While reminiscing where we all were yesterday 10 years ago, my memory was jogged about a variation we were looking for that actually never existed. Remember Dexter Jettster and how his insert card had a sticker covering the word "pipe" because it wasn't included with the figure. But this pipe exists in prototype form on eBay. Dexter Jettster was originally to come with a pipe, but George Lucas is against smoking (this is a fact) and as a result, Lucasfilm, Ltd. gave Hasbro two thumbs down about approving the accessory. Check it out! This is a cool prototype!

Posted by Paul | April 24, 2012 at 12:10 AM ET |

Review: Imperial Navy Commander - TVC - VC94

Posted by Paul | April 23, 2012 at 09:23 AM ET |

Where do you stand. Be sure to give us your thoughts in our Research Droids Reviews on this classic Star Wars character! Time Capsule: Where Were You Ten Years Ago Today? (04/23/02)

Posted by Paul | April 23, 2012 at 12:05 AM ET |

Today unbelievably marks the 10th anniversary of when the 2002 Star Wars "Saga" line made its debut at retail! Following in the footsteps of the Power Of The Jedi line, this all-encompassing line didn't necessarily play favorites with toys and action figures based solely on the Attack Of The Clones film it was intended to promote, but yet the entire Star Wars saga. We'd love for you to go back in time and recall your experiences when this line becamse available to us. Were you there on day one (April 23, 2002)? How much product was available to you? What did you buy? What did you miss? What were your thoughts on the "real scan" technology that Hasbro bragged about using on the basic figure line? Any and all topics are eligible for discussion. We, along with our friends from Yakface.com are making this a point of discussion today. Just click through and post away in our easy and fun comments module or click HERE to post your thoughts in Yakface.com's discussion as well! Special thanks to JTA/Yakface.com reader and friend Darth Eddie for this great idea!

Review: Qui-Gon Jinn - Movie Heroes - MH18

Posted by Paul | April 22, 2012 at 12:18 AM ET |

We can barely stand what's happening outside of The Vintage Collection for Star Wars toys. Hasbro brings back 1997 technology (actually a revised and better version of it) to 2012 so collectors can proudly own a Qui-Gon Jinn figure where he never lets go out his lightsaber and can only wield it up and down. (This isn't really happening, is it?) Learn about this debacle of a figure in our Research Droids Reviews and check out our "constructive criticism"! ROSS Keeps Giving Collectors A Reason To Visit Their Stores!

JTA moderator Bombadgungan gives us a brief field report at ROSS. Click through for his report!

You're probably very aware how difficult wave 12 (the seventh wave in the red line look) of The Clone Wars line was to find at retail. In fact, there have only been five figures to date since 1995 I haven't found in stores and this wave comprises three of those. (Thankfully both Clone Commander Stone and Anakin Skywalker [Cold Weather Gear] were carried forward into the final wave of that line look.) But we have a mind-boggling foreign story for you to read about these figures. Would you believe that they figures are beginning to hit El Salvador?! Could it mean that there is indeed a supply in some warehouse in America that could make its way to discount chains? Don't get your hopes up, but this find is beyond interesting! Click through for JTA reader Gemini R.'s report!

Review: [The Absolutely Definitive] Darth Vader - TVC - VC93

Posted by Paul | April 21, 2012 at 12:01 AM ET |

This IS the Darth Vader action figure you've been looking for and just need in general, But this one's a little more special because it is based on his Episode IV likeness/appearance. A non-removable helmet would be reason enough to classify it as such for many old school collectors, but there is so much more to appreciate as well. We won't waste your time any longer here, so please head into our Research Droids Reviews right this second to see one of the greatest action figures ever designed! The Clone Wars Wave 2 And 3 Previews/Updates

Posted by Paul | April 20, 2012 at 06:07 AM ET |

Our good friends at Yakface.com have another one of their typically awesome Toyguide previews available for your perusal. Click through to check nice looks at wave 2 and 3 of 2012 The Clone Wars lineup out because only the Maker knows when we will find them for our archives.

Perish the thought! Say it isn't so! Our friends at BanthaSkull.com have received word that wave 3 of The Vintage Collection has been produced in low quantity! If this holds true, it perhaps is one of the most egregious moves on Hasbro's part yet. Two of the original 12 figures are part of this wave (Darth Vader and Imperial Navy Commander) and should have been packed 2 or 3 per case. While some of the figures will be carried forward the rest of the year, it goes without saying that we just don't understand what is going on at Hasbro any more.

Review: Anakin Skywalker - Movie Heroes - MH14

Posted by Paul | April 19, 2012 at 12:00 AM ET |

Well, most of us wanted a modern update to this version of Anakin Skywalker. We got an update alright, but not the way he actually came. Anakin Skywalker isn't a terrible figure, but he has a long way to go before we can deem him definitive. See this new figure in detail in our Research Droids Reviews today. The Will Of The Force.... Powerful It is.... Powerful It is!

Posted by Paul | April 18, 2012 at 08:50 PM ET |

I don't believe in serendipity and I don't believe in luck or chance in the sense that it can be willed. (It's all part of the mathematical theory of probability folks.) And probably just like you, I do however believe in the will of the Force (as well as eerily strong coincidences). I have been watching two of our favorite female Jedi in our Research Droids Reviews for about six months now, and both 2011's TCW Barriss Offee and 2009's TCW Luminara Unduli in our "Most Popular" charts and they have somehow found each other and haven't left each others' side since. Just like it should be, Padawan learner doesn't stray too far from Jedi Master. Some things are just meant to stay inseparable, huh? Of course, some things are better left unsaid, so it's quite possible this could all change next month now that I have brought attention to it.

We have another small round of Visual Guide Updates ready to roll out! It's one of the waves everyone has been looking for. Click below to check out our first guide from Deleted Scenes wave: Luke Skywalker (Lightsaber Construction)! You can also read our detailed report on this figure in our Research Droids Review.

Review: Grievous' Bodyguard - ROTS - III 60

Posted by Paul | April 17, 2012 at 05:56 AM ET |

Now we look at the second (and better) white (alabaster) MagnaGuard basic figure. Hasbro drops the "s" after the apostrophe for this release and calls it Grievous' Bodyguard. So good and yet so bad thanks to a terrible action feature. Learn things you may not already know about this Star Wars character by checking in with our Research Droids Reviews today. JTA Special Report: The Power Of The Force Too

Posted by Paul | April 15, 2012 at 07:15 PM ET |

In 2012, it's easy to scoff at the line that reintroduced the collecting community to Star Wars figures. Buff versions of Luke, Han, Boba and Stormtroopers were all the rage. We noticed and criticized their disproportionate frames, but didn't care enough to boycott them and bought them up like there was no tomorrow. We're now approaching almost nearly 20 years since the line was reintroduced in 1995 and believe it or not, there are some products in The Power Of The Force line that are still noteworthy for your collection. We've distilled a list of ten (10) products from The Power Of The Force that you'll want to secure for your collection one way or another because it's likely there will never be an opportunity to get them the same way again. Are you interested? You better be! So please click through to see why you definitely need The Power Of The Force "too" for your awesome Star Wars collection!

2012: Hasbro: You're Our Only Hope

Posted by Paul | April 15, 2012 at 02:02 PM ET |

I am really becoming exponentially disheartened with the Star Wars line. I am certainly thankful that the Discover The Force figures have become plentiful. But here we are in the middle of April and my selection of Star Wars toys include figures from 1999-2005, an overproduced The Phantom Menace wave of The Vintage Collection and if I am lucky, a smearing of Movie Heroes wave 2. Something's gotta give. This is what every Walmart in my area looks like. Do I really need to wait until FYE or Five Below get TVC figures for $5 each again?

You Never Know What Will Turn Up At Retail!

Posted by Paul | April 15, 2012 at 01:53 PM ET |

Look at this crazy find I came across at a Philly Walmart. The Battle Packs set was $3.00 and the figures were $.50 each. Obviously this was a return with no receipt situation, but I was happy to make out like a bandit. CRAZY!

The Power Of The Force Of Advertising!

Posted by Paul | April 14, 2012 at 08:34 PM ET |

Since Hasbro has been hell bent on making 2012 feel like the 90s, we're going to follow suit, but in a much more entertaining way. Do you want to see a really cool blast from the past? JTA reader User897 compiled a YouTube.com video showcasing some pretty cool late 1990s (POTF2) era commercials, including TARGET promotions. Hasbro doesn't need to make commercials anymore. They rely on fan sites like this one for free press. (They know we'll do it for free.) You'll definitely want to check it out. Also, stick closely with JTA because we are also working on a short but sweet Special Report that also involves this neo classic line! Be sure to leave your thoughts too by clicking through to the comments module! Enjoy!

Review: Kit Fisto - ROTS - III 22

Posted by Paul | April 14, 2012 at 12:01 AM ET |

Kit Fisto is absolutely one of our most favorite Jedi, but it's a shame he went so quickly in his battle against Sidious in the Revenge Of The Sith film. This will probably be one of our more controversial reviews. Although Kit Fisto has a superb sculpt, the paint job knocks down the score we give. And where is his soft-goods outer robe, Hasbro? See our distilled thoughts in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Review: Agen Kolar - ROTS - III 20

Posted by Paul | April 13, 2012 at 12:20 AM ET |

Agen Kolar was the only Jedi from the Revenge Of The Sith line to come with an outer robe. What the heck? Hasbro must have known that this was their best Jedi so they gave him that extra accessory. Review: C-3PO - ROTS - III 18

Posted by Paul | April 11, 2012 at 12:10 AM ET |

Is there more of a staple Star Wars character than C-3PO? Hasbro made an all-new version of him for the Revenge Of The Sith and it's sort of hung in the basic figure line ever since (sort of). Read today's Research Droids Reviews entry to discover a very nice figure. Review: Tarkin - ROTS - III 45

Posted by Paul | April 10, 2012 at 12:15 AM ET |

Many character from Episode IV actually appear in Episode III, but they tend look a lot younger Tarkin's role in Revenge Of The Sith was more of a cameo, but Hasbro thought it would be wise to include him in the basic figure line. Tarkin is the subject in our Research Droids Reviews today. But we still need a better one See why! Review: Vader's Medical Droid [Chopper Droid] - ROTS - III 37

Posted by Paul | April 09, 2012 at 12:20 AM ET |

Revenge Of The Sith showed us how human Darth Vader became mechanical Darth Vader. And Vader's Medical Droid (also known as a Chopper Droid) probably had the most gruesome task of removing the burnt flesh from his body by quickly picking it away. The Hasbro action figure is better than good, but Research Droids Reviews feels that Hasbro should have used a less pliable plastic to cast it. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Clone Commander [Deviss] - ROTS - III 33

Posted by Paul | April 08, 2012 at 12:49 AM ET |

Did you know that the red Clone Commander from the Revenge Of The Sith line was supposed to be Commander Bly? Yes, this figure is a concept art figure of Bly and was subsequently made into a character in the Expanded Universe courtesy of Karen Traviss. And she even used a partial anagram of her name to call him Clone Commander Deviss. This figure still looks great in 2012, although Research Droids Reviews points out a few minor inconsistencies from the reference materials that still needs some fixing. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Passel Argente - ROTS - III 61

Posted by Paul | April 05, 2012 at 12:10 AM ET |

We think it's cool that Hasbro found a way to get the Revenge Of The Sith version of Passel Argente into the 2005 lineup all thanks be to "Repack & Repaint" waves, but did they have to package him dead? Do you know what we mean by that? If not, then click through to access our Research Droids Reviews entry on this figure today! I think the Luke Skywalker (Hoth Outfit) is getting some unnecessary flack. While I do agree that some enhancements are definitley needed, when Luke is outfitted with all of his gear and atop his tauntaun, I feel he couldn't look more movie accurate. Hasbro definitely should have included an alternate portrait with goggles lifted to the brim of his cap, but if they have taught us anything, it's that these Hoth variations come to us in other very cool ways.... like multipacks. (Remember how upset we were with the 2007 VTSC Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) figure?) Good things come to those who wait. Our pals at GalacticHunter.com have an advanced look at Luke. And they have a perfect shot of why this figure is a success. Click through to check it out!

Review: Mustafar Sentry - ROTS - III 56

Posted by Paul | April 03, 2012 at 12:15 AM ET |

Every Star Wars film is good for a cool alien or two. And one of the coolest, or perhaps we should say hottest, aliens in Episode III was the Mustafar Sentry. Hasbro translated the character into an action figure quite well. See how well in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Commander Bacara - ROTS - III 49

Posted by Paul | April 02, 2012 at 12:10 AM ET |

Not all clone commanders from Hasbro are perfect. They sadly fell short with Commander Bacara from the Revenge Of The Sith line. (Thank goodness they made things right with the updated figure in 2008's TAC Battle Of Mygeeto Battle Packs set.) See Bacara's beginnings in our Research Droids Reviews today.
