Review: Sandtrooper (Tatooine Patrol) - POTJ - Basic

Posted by Paul | September 29, 2014 at 12:20 AM ET |

Is it a dirty corporal or a dirty sergeant? Because we have no idea. There was no Sandtrooper with a gray pauldron in Episode IV, but that's what Hasbro decided to give the Sandtrooper (Tatooine Patrol) figure in the Power Of The Jedi line. It's a great figure nonetheless. See this figure in its entirety in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Imperial Officer - POTJ - Basic

Posted by Paul | September 28, 2014 at 12:40 AM ET |

We're finishing up the basic figures in the Power Of The Jedi line and the Imperial Officer is up next. Sadly, this is not the figure Hasbro meant to update as this is not an Imperial Officer. It's an Imperial Technician as seen in Episode V and Episode VI. Check it out in our Research Droids Reviews today. Naboo Starfighter Shows Up At Retail Discount Chains.... Again!

Posted by Paul | September 27, 2014 at 06:43 PM ET |

Well, here's proof you never know what's going to happen and how distribution can turn on a dime. If you live in the mid west and central USA, you have likely heard of ALCO discount stores. Guess what they're getting in now? JTA reader Mark H. sends us proof that the Naboo Starfighter has reared its ugly head again. Mark found the Naboo Starfighter at the Alco store in Peru, Indiana. It was $19.99 and they are having a buy one get one 50% off sale, but he believes that ends today.

The Black Series Proto Fett Will Be One Of The Biggest Peg-Warmers Yet

Posted by Paul | September 27, 2014 at 08:26 AM ET |

The Black Series Walgreen figures are out of stock until November and Walgreens is kind enough to put signage up explaining this. But be not alarmed. As Walgreens purchaser Steven Anne revealed on his Twitter page, Walgreens has 40,000 Proto Fetts on order (which is an inordinate amount of figures in this day and age). And because it's estimated that there is about half that number of Hasbro collectors actively purchasing Star Wars figures, this likely means that Proto Fett will become instant shelf rot. Take that scalpers! Special thanks to JTA reader Brad for alerting us to this recent development. Click through for more

Review: Rebel Trooper (Tantive IV Defender) - POTJ - Basic

Hasbro's Annual 'Twas The Night Before.... Party Coming Soon!

Posted by Paul | September 26, 2014 at 01:40 PM ET |

Jedi Temple Archives will be attending Hasbro's exclusive 'Twas The Night Before.... Party event on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. This annual event takes place the day before New York Comic Con starts and they typically reveal new things coming later this year and/or early 2015. (This is the event where the first prototypes for The Black Series wave 4 was revealed.) It would be nice if they use this event to reveal the rest of those "18" figures that still have yet to be officially confirmed (and hopefully others). We will be brainstorming ways to handle the Q&A more efficiently this time around so stay tuned for how this will be handled. In the meantime, start thinking about what you'll want to ask and/or waht comments you'd like relayed.

Review: Chewbacca (Millennium Falcon Mechanic) - POTJ - Basic

Posted by Paul | September 26, 2014 at 01:40 AM ET |

The first true to scale Chewbacca action figure was the POTJ Chewbacca (Millennium Falcon Mechanic) figure. It doesn't hold up terribly well today, but it's not half that bad either. The point here is that it changed how all future Chewbacca action figures would be approached. It's the focus of our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Starkiller (Galen Marek) - TBS [P2] - #05

Posted by Paul | September 23, 2014 at 12:25 AM ET |

Oh boy do we feel bad for those of you that missed out on The Vintage Collection Starkiller (Vader's Apprentice) (VC100) figure because The Black Series Starkiller (Galen Marek) figure REALLY pales in comparison. With eyebrows that Elaine gave Uncle Leo in Seinfeld and a hairline of Jim Carrey's character in Dumb & Dumber, there isn't much to praise here at all. The paint operations in general are nightmarish. See why you'll still want to track down the TVC figure by checking in with our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: R5-G19 - TBS [P2] - #01

Posted by Paul | September 22, 2014 at 12:20 AM ET |

We continue our exclusive advanced look at the first wave of The Black Series [Phase II] line look which should be hitting the USA some time in October. (FYI, we will also be referring to this wave as wave 6 to keep continuity in The Black Series overall lineup.) Next up is the R5-series astromech droid R5-G19 which apparently has really confused Hasbro, not only with the character itself but also the figure's production. What's interesting is that this droid doesn't even appear in Return Of The Jedi. Well it does, but it doesn't. We'll explain. Hasbro's reference image shows another R5 unit, not R5-G19 (although they do look very similar to each other). We have a lot to discuss so learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

Review: Luke Skywalker [Wampa Attack] - TBS [P2] - #02

Posted by Paul | September 21, 2014 at 12:01 AM ET |

We have NEW FIGURES to review! We start our exclusive advanced look at the first wave of The Black Series [Phase II] line look which should be hitting the USA some time in October. (FYI, we will also be referring to this wave as wave 6 to keep continuity in The Black Series overall lineup.) We start off with Luke Skywalker as he appeared in The Empire Strikes Back right after his attack from the wampa. The figure has some impressive upgrades when compared to The Vintage Collection release, but is it perfect? We have a great deal to say about him. Learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today with a large gallery including JTA's own full storyboard interpretation. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Scout Trooper (Imperial Patrol) [Version 1] - POTJ - Basic

Posted by Paul | September 19, 2014 at 12:25 AM ET |

The Scout Trooper (Imperial Patrol) [Version 1] figure was a breath of fresh air in 2000/2001. But it cleverly fooled us all because it really didn't age all that well when compared to what Hasbro has released since. See this ancestor in our Research Droids Reviews today. You will NEED to sit down before clicking through to witness the horror we did. We have no less than 15 images of pure theft to show you. JTA reader Greg B. sends us one incident after another of blatant theft and he assumes that this is the same thieving guy/gal doing this because it happens frequently and in a remote area. I need to find out more, but I would like to know why no one has done something about this or perhaps brought it to a district manager's attention. I think something like this would warrant a call to Hasbro customer relations. You will shutter. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Hasbro, you have all but ignored the fan sites, but if you're still reading, please do something about this.... even if it's simple staff education.

Yikes! How NOT To Ship Star Wars Figures, Amazon.com!

Posted by Paul | September 15, 2014 at 01:31 PM ET |

They packaged things beautifully. Click through for more!

Toys R Us Gets Discounted The Vintage Collection Figures Now?

Posted by Paul | September 14, 2014 at 03:52 PM ET |

OK. We DO NOT want to prematurely jump to wrong conclusions, but with recent developments at Ollie's and Kmart, we can't help but pay close notice to what's going on elsewhere. JTA reader Nick S. sends us proof that he found some The Vintage Collection figures and they were specially priced at $7.98 (down from the normal $9.99). This odd collection of figures looks to be a hodgepodge of multiple cases. It's likely these could have fallen behind the display and even stranger they could have been returned. But the new price point has our curiosity piqued. If you're out and about, PLEASE let us know if you find something similarly. Click through for Nick's report.

The Jedi Turbo Speeder? Well, this one isn't faring as well. We haven't come across it once. But plenty of Luke Skywalker's Snowspeeders, Bespin Cloud Cars and Mandalorian Shuttles. Remember, these should be available everywhere this Thursday if they're not out now. BREAKING NEWS: They're Back!! 2 Awesome Class II Vehicles Less Than $20

Posted by Paul | September 12, 2014 at 03:54 PM ET |

Breaking news! JTA reader Chris sends us photographic proof that The Clone Wars [Shadow Of The Dark Side] vehicle two-packs that were originally part of a Toys R Us' "Black Friday" promotion have now been found at Ollie's for $19.99 for each two-pack! Send in your store reports and let us know what you find! It's amazing to me that collectors were trying to find these vehicles when they were released and they now are still being found for pennies on the dollar. What this distills down to is that you can get two highly detailed full-size vehicles with cool action features and a lot of play value for less than the price of one "reduced scale" essentially hollowed out Class II vehicle available right now for $24.99 each with "nothing". Sad, sad, sad. Hasbro would have been better off holding onto this stock and then re-releasing it when the market demanded something good to buy (i.e. now).

While contrarians will defend every last move Hasbro makes, it's evident that by Hasbro alienating collectors and making second rate toys just isn't even close to being the answer even during a bad economy. LEGO is one of the few companies, from a Star Wars standpoint, that listens to its fans, makes a ton of collector-friendly Original Trilogy focused products, and doesn't let cost prevent them from making the things collectors want to see. We hope and pray that Hasbro will take cues from from the new leader and get back to basics as expediently as possible.

Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi) - POTJ - Basic

Posted by Paul | September 11, 2014 at 01:40 AM ET |

One of the most boring figures in the Star Wars Power Of The Jedi line and one of our least favorites is Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi). He'll instantly remind you of the Episode I inundation/deluge. Price Hikes Already On The Garbage

Posted by Paul | September 10, 2014 at 08:18 PM ET |

The item that you don't want for $39.99 is still the same item you don't want but is now $44.99. The Hero Series X-wing Fighter just obtained a price increase. We don't know if this is a universal mark-up, but it's laughable at best. Let the aisles clog like a blocked artery.... NOW! Special thanks to Darth Turtle for the laughable news.

Posted by Paul | September 07, 2014 at 12:35 AM ET |

Although a controversial addition to the Special Edition of A New Hope, it's hard to deny that Ketwol is pretty neat as an action figure. Hasbro even made his paradigm shift/dual characteristics as screen accurate as possible too! This single alien replaced two wolf-men from the cantina in two different ways. Both are here (from a certain point of view.) Find out more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Is The Wool Being Pulled Over Our Eyes?

Posted by Paul | September 04, 2014 at 08:44 AM ET |

JTA reader Derek emailed me with some eye-opening images. With Hasbro on a clear cut mission to provide the market with budget Star Wars merchandise, it makes us wonder if they're doing things completely wrong when you see what other toy companies are producing and the prices they sell for at retail. While definitely apples to oranges in many respects, you can't help but wonder why Hasbro cannot produce remotely similarly quality stuff for the Star Wars brand... and at least include a functioning cockpit in every Star Wars vehicle they produce.... regardless of the size. Click through for Derek's point of view and leave your thoughts in our comments!

Inconceivable! Former TVC Peg-Warmers? Guess Packaging Does Matter!

Posted by Paul | September 02, 2014 at 04:25 PM ET |

You know something? Hasbro can't seem to win for losing. They finally do something right by peppering older The Vintage Collection figures into the line and bam: instant peg-warmers. We know without a doubt that Dak Ralter wasn't the best choice by any stretch of the imagination, but I still don't think he should be peg-warming like this. Click through for JTA reader Joe's recent retail experience. Now, just imagine if you replaced the Daks with Emperor's Royal Guards? Now that would be something.
