Beginning Tomorrow: 21 Days Of The Original Trilogy

Posted by Paul | April 30, 2013 at 12:46 PM ET |

The month of May just has this overall Star Wars vibe to it, doesn't it? On top of Star Wars Fans' official holiday (May the Fourth Be With You), all six Star Wars films have been released in May as well. Beginning tomorrow and for the next 21 days we will be celebrating this in our own special way by focusing on Original Trilogy products in our Research Droids Reviews, most of which have been released in "vintage styled" packaging. Be sure to come back for this run of reviews. We would also like to thank you for being patient with us during our Mini Bust marathon. We realize that format isn't for everyone, but you've made it a success nonetheless.

Review: Jango Fett [Version 2] - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | April 30, 2013 at 08:22 AM ET |

Hey, do you want to check out one of the best human likenesses in the Mini Bust line? Then be sure to look at the Jango Fett [Version 2] Mini Bust gallery. Not only do you get a spitting image of Temura Morrison, you also get an interchangeable helmeted portrait as well (which for some bizarre reason has been chromed making the human portrait the better one)! It's all in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Toledo Mud Hens Chewbacca Jersey

Posted by Paul | April 30, 2013 at 08:01 AM ET |

The Force will be with the Toledo Mud Hens next weekend. The Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers recently revealed the jerseys that they'll be wearing for their series next weekend, and they truly look like they are from a universe far, far away. As you'll see above, the Mud Hens' uniforms are Chewbacca-themed, perhaps a first in professional sports. At first glance they look pretty ugly, but are they so hideous as to be beautiful? Decide for yourself. The themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off for local charities after the game, are just one part of the Mud Hens' Star Wars tribute. Click through for more information!

The 2013 The Clone Wars Figures Trending Down?

Posted by Chuck | April 27, 2013 at 01:31 PM ET |

The final wave (Yoda/AOTC) of The Clone Wars figures are starting to creep down in price. Make sure to stay on top of these so you can catch them in the price range you are willing to pay. Quite a few have gone for as low as $12.99, and one pair even went for under $10. If you don't want to mess with picking these up auction-by-auction, this seller has had several auctions for the set of 9 for about $17.50 each after shipping. A little high, but still better than what they have been going for.

Review: Jawas - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | April 25, 2013 at 05:47 AM ET |

There are times when artistic license takes a Star Wars character to an exciting new interpretation, sometimes becoming more interesting than what appeared in the film. The Kit Fisto (VC29) Variation That Never Was....

Posted by Paul | April 22, 2013 at 06:36 PM ET |

I am a proud fan of Kit Fisto. He is unequivocally my favorite Prequel Trilogy character. And if you've been reading with any regularity here at JTA, you know that I personally have hounded Hasbro about the packaging to the gorgeous The Vintage Collection figure (VC29). It's action figure perfection! But its packaging is not perfection as Hasbro accidentally sourced this figure to Attack Of The Clones (gasp!). (This particular figure is based on his appearance in Revenge Of The Sith instead.) It always bugged me that collectors went ape-crazy over calling the VC13 figure as "Anakin Skywalker" because he was really dubbed "Darth Vader" at that point in the film (and Hasbro catered to those whiners), but a huge glaring error like the Kit Fisto one was barely criticized by fans and pleading to Hasbro to correct it went unheard. Or did it? I wasn't silent. In fact, I even asked Hasbro during a late Q&A session the following: (read more....)

Posted by Paul | April 22, 2013 at 06:24 AM ET |

Review: Princess Leia Organa (Hoth) - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | April 15, 2013 at 05:58 AM ET |

The Princess Leia Organa (Hoth) Mini Bust is essentially perfect except for her portrait. We're not exactly sure why Gentle Giant Ltd. has been struggling with human likenesses so much lately. Listen to this discussion and more in our Research Droids Reviews today and ponder with us why a plunge in interest exists in this very awesome line. The Sticker Should Actually Read Anywhere BUT Walmart!

Posted by Paul | April 14, 2013 at 08:53 PM ET |

After getting unofficially canned at Walmart (with Hasbro telling us that they were shipped to Walmart), the third wave of DVD sets started showing up at ROSS and TJMAXX. Now look what is showing up at discount retailer Tuesday Morning. The Walmart stickers likely mean that they did arrive at Walmart but were then pawned off elsewhere. While this is definitely cool, we really want to see them get more of The Vintage Collection show up at Tuesday Morning instead! Special thanks to JTA moderator PaulB for this report!

eBay Darth Sidious (VC12) Update!

Posted by Paul | April 14, 2013 at 08:13 PM ET |

If you recall, a little while ago we posted a link to an eBay seller who was selling the 2010 TVC Darth Sidious (VC12) figure loose for a very reasonable price (our original story can be found HERE). It has since gone up in price (you can see the auction HERE), but collectors often wonder about the quality of these "throw-away" action figures. Review: Han Solo (Bespin) - PGM Exclusive Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | April 14, 2013 at 07:53 AM ET |

You know that there has been a deep drop in collector base when PGM exclusive edition sizes are below 500 pieces. Even a popular character like Han Solo (Bespin) can't even draw an audience. Something Is Definitely Missing Alright....

Posted by Paul | April 13, 2013 at 01:53 PM ET |

I haven't been out on too many toy runs lately, but I had to pick up a few things at TARGET so I went an extra mile out of my way to see what was growing on the shelves of a local Walmart. Things like this easily annoy me. The kicker? I saw this same exact figure hanging on the pegs in 2012 in this same exact manner, evidence that employees and managers just don't care or are just too lazy. It probably was the red one too, darn it!

We either whine way too much, or we just don't step up to the plate when Hasbro does. I don't mean to sound insensitive to collectors who claim to have never found the 2010 Aayla Secura wave from the red phase of The Clone Wars line, but the reissue is plaguing many stores in the Philly area. It's not like the reissue was overshipped, so did it really need to be reissued at all? Let's also not forget JTA moderator PaulB's report of this mess way back in September of 2012. What gives?

The Clone Wars (2008-2013) - The Basic Figures

Posted by Paul | April 07, 2013 at 12:53 PM ET |

Yes, we're still grieving the loss of The Clone Wars toy line. But in order to fully come to terms and embrace its end completely, we must pay homage to it. We will pay homage to it by providing comprehensive overviews of the products Hasbro released for us during its powerful 5 year run. First up are the basic figures. We have organized them in order by release date and waves from the beginning (2008) to the end (2013). There is very little to read, so this is a visual commentary. Click through to see the wonder and excitement Hasbro brought to kids and collectors alike. And also see how easy it would have been for them to give us some very easy rereleases and repaints to help allow the line to go out with a bang. New Droid Factory Display Opens At Once Upon A Toy

Posted by Paul | April 06, 2013 at 05:24 PM ET |

Attractions Magazine has a cool new photo that shows off the brand new Droid Factory attraction at Once Upon A Toy at Walt Disney World. Check it out!

We will never judge a Mini Bust by early promotional images again. If we had solely relied on them, we would have never purchased Kit Fisto. He looks nothing like he does in those images (thank goodness). See what he actually looks like in our photo gallery! Also, do you believe that Gentle Giant Ltd. made the same exact error as Hasbro with their Episode III interpretation of Kit Fisto? It's true. The source and bio description on the box say Attack Of The Clones but the sculpt is clearly Kit Fisto as he appears in Revenge Of The Sith. See all of this and more explained in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Nien Nunb - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | April 05, 2013 at 05:49 AM ET |

Here we go again! Is it finally time to accept that the red-suited Sullustan B-wing pilot is actually Nien Nunb, and that he changed outfits when he joined up with Lando Calrissian as his co-pilot for the attack on the second Death Star? The Nien Nunb Mini Bust is excellent, but it will certainly start up another wave of controversy. (For the record, we believe it's him also.) We still want to see the Millennium Falcon co-pilot version of him too, Gentle Giant, so get cracking! See this neat interpretation of this fan favorite character in our Research Droids Reviews today. Congratulations Adam Pawlus On A Column Well Run!

It wasn't a mean April Fools' joke. Adam Pawlus from GalacticHunter.com has indeed ended his long-running Figure Of The Day column at 2,034. He ended it with the perfect character: BoShek. He and that figure have quite a history. You already know this if you've been reading Adam's column for years. Anyway, JTA heartily congratulates him on his impressive body of work he's written and while we're sad to see it end, we know new and exciting things are forthcoming. Congratulations Adam! Posted by Paul | April 03, 2013 at 08:54 AM ET |

Recorded on New Years Day (exactly three months ago to the day) tune in and listen as they talk about everything from Trading Cards to LEGO - you won’t want to miss this (and see if you can spot what’s changed in the last few months)!
