Star Wars: Rebels - A Recapped Look At The Hasbro Toy Line

Posted by Paul | April 30, 2015 at 09:43 PM ET |

The poor Star Wars: Rebels toy line! It all started with that outlandish claim that JTA posted as a rumor report. Rebels figures, aside from a few initial batches, were delayed until February 2015 the earliest. It was a post that panicked the collecting community for no reason. Oh wait. That actually DID transpire in the USA. Eventually the products got out, but some areas got a ton of product, some never received a single piece to this day. Then there was the pricing. One figure for $9.99, or two figures for $9.99: your pick! And we haven't even mentioned the controversial five points of articulation that has just about split the community in half (that's a gift, contrarians). No matter your position, there is no denying that collectors were curious about this line because it certainly wasn't the kids and gift-giving parents buying these toys. (Hopefully you can sense we're just being playfully sarcastic here.) In truth, the Rebels line brought forth some pretty cool figures. Yes, it was far from perfect and collectors are still waiting for super-articulated versions of these characters, but it's hard not to admit that there were some gems. Now that the line has been cancelled indefinitely postponed/sold out/never coming to retail again in the Rebels line look and that Hasbro is clearancing out their remaining stock on eBay, we thought it would be a great time to revisit what basic figures, two-packs and vehicles made up the line. Click through to reminisce with us. Hopefully it was a good experience for you and your family at least. We probably can expect to see most of these figures (and all new ones) in the Fall 2015/TFA line look coming this September!

Posted by Paul | April 30, 2015 at 12:10 AM ET |

Hasbro is slowly but surely adding repacks from The Vintage Collection into The Black Series [Phase II] lineup. But we don't think any of us needed to see the Imperial Navy Commander again. TARGET Adds Register-Enforced Street Date Blocks

Posted by Paul | April 27, 2015 at 10:23 PM ET |

If this is old news I apologize in advance, but I haven't heard anyone talking about this yet. Last week I found the LEGO Simpsons Mini-figures at TARGET. They have a street date of 5/1, but they put them out early, as they have done with many other street-dated products in the past. This isn't the news, so stick with me here. So anyway, I grabbed a few and brought them to the cash register. The cash register enforced the street date. The cashier had no way to ring them up. There was a full screen message: CANNOT SELL UNTIL 5/1. Street dates have NEVER been enforced by Target at the register. It was always a human issue. If the stock person put it out, or got it for you from the back, you could buy it. This LIKELY will impact The Force Awakens line at TARGET later this year. If you have been used to squeezing products out of TARGET before the street date, you may have a huge stumbling block in your way this year if you're trying to break the street date. Of course, we imagine that The Vintage Collection DPCI will be used again so maybe it won't be as hard as we imagine.... it's going to be outstanding.

Out of the blue and quite suddenly, HasbroToyShop.com has put every last Rebels figure or figure set out of stock. Are they just rechecking all of their stock? Posted by Paul | April 25, 2015 at 12:55 AM ET |

The Power Of The Force "2" Lak Sivrak is very special for multiple reasons. New The Black Series Carded Images: Jawas, Mosep, Thorn, etc.

Posted by Paul | April 24, 2015 at 07:54 AM ET |

Our friends at StarWarsFiguren.com have the first carded looks of Jawas and Mosep Bineed and new official images of other figures like Commander Thorn. Yikes, look at that ugly piece of white paper behind the figures! Anyway, be sure to check them out and let us know your thoughts in our comments!

UPDATE 1: Why is C-3PO "complete" in the package (except for his face plate) yet there is an "extra" chest plate and thigh plate in the packaging to the right of him. Do you think these pieces are glued in place and we have just been given extra parts for "play value"? Are we missing something simple here altogether?

UPDATE 2: The sample shown at SWCA doesn't have the extra parts, so maybe this is an early sample for photography for solicitations.

MakingStarWars.net: Hasbro Interview

Posted by Paul | April 23, 2015 at 05:15 PM ET |

Site MakingStarWars.net has their Hasbro Q&A posted. Again, not too much new revealed and a few of our old questions originally asked at past events have been reconfirmed, but check it out. Still murky is the future of the 3.75" line as Hasbro still doesn't clearly delineate the 3.75" line form the 6" line in their responses (which is debatable if you read the context of it in the question).

And by 3.75" line we mean collector line (super-articulated figures only). Let us preface this clearly: TAKE THIS AS A BIG OLD NASTY RUMOR until it is announced by Hasbro. (Hear that out there, word-twisters?) We really debated whether or not to post this because it seems outlandish and contrary to what Hasbro expressed to JTA at previous Toy Fair events. (more....)

JTA reader Jourdenais J. from Canada sends us a report from his local Walmart that they are beginning to clearance out some Rebels stuff as well. More surprising? The Commemorative Digital Sets have just been marked 30% too! Click through for his report!

With special thanks to Yakface.com as well as many of our readers, we have been tipped off to many store reports from our readers that Saga Legends figures have been found as low as $2.98. And Hasbro said the line wasn't cancelled indefinitely postponed/sold out/discontinued/never coming again in Rebels packaging now.... how cute! Too bad there are still people in denial about this, just like they are about Princess Leia (Yavin Ceremony) being cancelled from the The Black Series "blue" line look. Special thanks to Mike R. for the image (and others) he sent.

SWCA: Frank D’iorio’s Diorama Workshop Time-Lapse Video

Posted by Chuck | April 22, 2015 at 07:17 PM ET |

This past weekend at Star Wars Celebration, Frank D’iorio’s Diorama Workshop built a massive Cloud City diorama at the Hasbro booth! Constructed over the course of 4 days, the diorama was created through a combination of the Diorama Workshop's team of 12 builders and the help of approximately 1500 fans who customized pieces at Star Wars Celebration. The diorama is 640 square feet and consists of over 400 setpieces, including approximately 800 figures and toys by Hasbro and Kenner.

SWCA: It's A Wrap!

Posted by Chuck | April 20, 2015 at 03:17 PM ET |

While sitting here waiting for my flight to leave LA I thought this would be a perfect time to detox and wrap up the main portion of our coverage! First off a big thanks to Paul for working the homefront and getting the galleries up and posted! While I had my boots on the ground he was pushing pictures through as fast as possible! (more...)

Also, please take a moment to visit and thank our sponsor Brian's Toys! Without their help we would not have been able to cover as much as we did. Their sponsorship of our coverage was a huge help!

We held off until the very end of SWCA to bring you this unique first look gallery of many of the card backs (the reverse sides of course) of The Black Series figures (both scales) as well as a "not behind glass" closer inspection of the newly revealed 6" Ahsoka Tano. As far as TBS packaging is concerned, you'll notice that bios (and images from the 3.75" scale) are being removed in favor of multilingual basic text and warnings (what a shame) even in the collector line. Anyway, check out the new images. We don't think you will find them anywhere else on the web, but hey, stranger things have happened. Click through for more!

Next up is our gallery for Jakks Pacific, a licensee that has "on fire" passion for the Star Wars brand. Oh, and it looks like we were right about the Boba fett being the prototype "Jaig eyes" Boba Fett. SWCA: JTA Interviews Hasbro Star Wars Brand Marketing Team

Posted by Paul | April 17, 2015 at 07:36 PM ET |

We did more of an "interview" type of Q&A with Hasbro this time around. As we cleverly surmised almost a week ago, the Jabba's Rancor Pit contains an all-new Jabba the Hutt 3.75" figure. And it's YOUR fault that the TBS6 Leia Boushh is so big. Oh, and if you see orange carded The Black Series 3.75" and 6" figures don't freak out. The stuff is finally making its way out. All this and more awaits you in our SWCA Hasbro Q&A. Click through for more! Be sure to leave your thoughts about this Q&A in our comments! Special thanks to Brian's Toys for sponsoring us this year!

Jakks Pacific is teasing a SDCC exclusive Boba Fett limited to 1000 pieces. It's currently turned around at the moment. Jakks has claimed that this is a Boba Fett which has NEVER been done before in any format or toy line. Although, I sense it is the "Jaig eyes" version (prototype version) which Medicom Toy released in their VCD line. Until this puppy is turned around, the jury is out.

Review: Commander Wolffe - TBS [P2] - Basic

Posted by Paul | April 13, 2015 at 12:20 AM ET |

There is an action figure that is its own yin and yang. And that figure is Commander Wolffe. It's the worst and best action figure at the same time. Maybe you can overlook its "worst-ness" easily. And maybe you won't. The good news is that no one will be able to deny its greatness. Learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Chewbacca - TBS [P2] - #11

Posted by Paul | April 12, 2015 at 01:05 AM ET |

You'd think we would all have the definitive A New Hope Chewbacca by now, but NOW we do. The Black Series Chewbacca is the best modern update of that character now. This figure looks fantastic and the lighter coloring does a world of good for this character who is mostly portrayed in colors way too dark for him. Review: Darth Vader (Dagobah Test) - TBS [P2] - #07

Posted by Paul | April 11, 2015 at 12:45 AM ET |

Forget about what you think you already know about Darth Vader (Dagobah Test) from The Black Series line. We have an actual sample of it and it has incredibly exceeded our expectations. Yes, not much is new here, but the newness it does have is pretty sweet. See more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! An Advanced Look At The Black Series Wave 7: 3.75" Scale

Posted by Paul | April 10, 2015 at 11:43 PM ET |

We have an advanced look for you at wave 7 of The Black Series 3.75" line. Full disclosure: these samples have all been procured from eBay seller viperskingdom. This is the first time we have ever added these types of figures into our RDRs. But with literally nothing new to review and the Star Wars line in the state it is in it felt right to add them in this manner. Hopefully it will remain an exception. If final production samples vary greatly, we will add updates later and apprise you of all the changes. Reviews are coming shortly, but in a nutshell Chewbacca is the BEST A New Hope version of the character we have received. Darth Vader (Dagobah Test) came out incredibly better than we had anticipated. Commander Wolffe is a dream come true sculpt wise, but a horrid nightmare when it comes to his scale. Commander Doom and Captain Rex are also decent action figures that share many similar parts. They do however each have issues of their own. We'll get to all the details soon when the reviews go live starting tomorrow! Enjoy the advanced look in the meantime!

The Black Series Jabba's Rancor Pit Toys R Us Exclusive Revealed!

Posted by Paul | April 10, 2015 at 10:16 AM ET |

And it actually looks amazing. It's hard to believe TRU is taking another chance on a large exclusive like this after the Battle of Endor debacle. We just received this image anonymously and are unable to credit the source. But remember that Rancor exclusive that kept popping up on rumor lists? It looks like it's actually coming and it looks like it's an awesome set. but how much could this be in 2015 Hasbro currency? $200+? Check it out and leave your thoughts! P.S. We have NO PROOF, but could that be an all-new Jabba in 3.75" scale? it doesn't look "squished" like the SOTDS version did and in fact a whole lot better than that 2010 release!

UPDATE: This image has come from the Facebook fan page entitled Star Wars Saga Legends & Mission Series Facebook page. The photograph was apparently taken or posted by Chris A. We watermarked the image before we knew where it originated. (It was sent to us anonymously.)

Aren't You A Little Short For A Clone Trooper? (And Other Issues)

Posted by Paul | April 09, 2015 at 01:48 PM ET |

Oh for goodness gracious sake. We're beginning to believe that these final waves of The Black Series figures are just way too rushed, or completely new Hasbro staff are making these things. We have received images from JTA reader Matthew V. which came via cell phone. They show just how off all three clones are from each other: Doom, Wolffe and Rex. RIP men.

You Ain't Never Gonna Get 'Em: MIA Saga Legends Bite The Dust

Posted by Paul | April 07, 2015 at 01:24 PM ET |

So, you wanted to know what happened to Darth Maul, the 501st and Mace Windu in the Saga Legends line? They've been cancelled. JediBusiness.com has the official word from Hunter PR. This is "very" bad news to those American collectors trying to get their paws on Darth Maul, which so far to date has been only an international exclusive. The only remaining option for these figures is if they're carried forward into the Fall line look. That potential has NOT been axed yet. Thanks to Martin F. who directed us to this news.

TRU Express Still Receiving The Vintage Collection Slave I

Posted by Paul | April 04, 2015 at 03:51 PM ET |

JTA reader Tony P. sends us proof that the previous Amazon.com exclusive Slave I is still arriving at TRU Express stores in the mall. This is wonderful for those that missed out on it originally, but it's hard to accept that we'll likely never see a great exclusive like this ever again. Hopefully The Force Awakens line will bring enough people back to collecting so that we will see things like this again. And this was probably just an annoying sales pitch, but see what the cashier recommended to Tony by clicking through.

Single Saga Legends For $9.99 Or Mission Series 2-Pack For $7.50?

Posted by Paul | April 04, 2015 at 03:30 PM ET |

JTA reader Darth Pudgy sends us a report confirming that the new $9.99 price point for Rebels Saga Legends is making its way across the country at Toys R Us in a concentrated manner. Interestingly, I have not seen this price increase, but we continue to get more and more reports. This move is insane, especially since TRU is currently running a 2 for $15 Mission Series sale right now.

Sideshow Collectibles gives collectors two options for a long-running debate. Is it brown or blue? Of course we're talking about Han's parka on Hoth. For today's review, we look at source materials which lean toward showing us that Captain Han Solo (Hoth) [Blue Jacket Version] may have actually worn a blue jacket. (It's all about being a devil's advocate today.) Check out our readable thoughts in our Research Droids Reviews today. Happy 10th Anniversary To The Revenge Of The Sith Product Launch!

Posted by Paul | April 02, 2015 at 12:15 AM ET |

Today marks the TENTH anniversary of the official release date that launched all Revenge Of The Sith products to retail which supported Episode III. What we thought (back then) was to be the final Star Wars film ever ended up being one of the heaviest supported films at the retail level from various chains. Stores like Walmart, Toys R Us and TARGET had highly sought-after exclusives and there were also fun Midnight Madness events for those that needed new Star Wars toys the moment they were available. We thought it would be fun to reminisce about this special day. Did you partake in the craziness? What did you buy on day one? Did you capture all of those exclusives without resorting to the secondary market? What did you think about the toys after you bought them. Were you impressed? Did any spoil the plot of the film for you? Share these memories and more with us in our comments. Special thanks to JTA reader and friend Darth Eddie for the article idea!

The Vintage Collection Returns Fall 2015?

Posted by Paul | April 01, 2015 at 12:49 PM ET |

We have just intercepted mock-ups of the next wave of Saga Legends for Fall 2015. It appears that all who surmised about the return of The Vintage Collection were right. But it's probably safer to say that no one expected (or wanted) this however. Simple 5POA figures will debut in the fall in our glorious TVC packaging. It's unknown yet if the new The Force Awakens figures will follow the same format yet. Keep close to JTA as we follow this story. More info is forthcoming we have been told.

I'm Gonna Wash That Helmet Right Outta His Hair....

Posted by Paul | April 01, 2015 at 11:09 AM ET |

JTA reader Carlos Junior C. sends us an impressive set of images showing off a custom he converted from the Rebels Saga Legends Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise) figure. It now has a removable helmet. If you watched the latest Wolfpack Podcast you saw Jayson from Yakface.com show us what this figure's head looks like without the helmet. Now see what customization does for this figure. It really doesn't look half that bad with a removable helmet now! Click through for more!

He is brightly colored orange and comes with accessories that Hasbro just didn't give us with the 3.75" figure.
