The Star Wars Retro Collection is inspired by the 1980s STAR WARS figures and features original figure design and detailing! Continue your collection from the galaxy far, far away!

The Retro Collection Boba Fett wasn’t the first retro Boba Fett produced for the modern Hasbro line. No. Hasbro released the highly-coveted Boba Fett (VCP03) “rocket-firing” mail-away figure for The Vintage Collection in 2010. With only five points of articulation and the long-awaited “rocket-firing” play feature put in motion for the first time commercially, the figure received a huge reception from the Star Wars collecting community. Well, only to those who could look past the simple five points of swivel articulation. To the surprise of collectors everywhere, Hasbro tooled a completely all-new sculpt for the mail-away Boba Fett figure. They recreated Boba Fett faithfully, but there were obvious differences throughout the tooling that didn’t make it an exact replica of the classic vintage Kenner 1979 action figure. Well, now we can finally have that faithfully recreated classic vintage Kenner Boba Fett in the Retro Collection. First revealed to be forthcoming into the line right here in a rumor report, you had to read between the lines. Now, the rumor’s become a reality, and Boba Fett is the highlight of the second wave of the Retro Collection. Boba Fett is also the only one of the six figures in wave 2 that made its debut in the STAR WARS line too! The Retro Collection is a fantastic way to celebrate the anniversary of the Original Trilogy. We wanted to alert you right away that the Retro Collection call-out sticker is not removable this time. It will tear off the card art if you try to remove it now.

Because the figures in the Retro Collection line are cast from the original vintage Kenner figures, and not new tooling, you’re going to find a few inconsistencies between the final produced figures in the Retro Collection and their Kenner counterparts. For example, the colors are different. They’re close but different. For Boba Fett, you’ll notice how vastly the green chest armor color and brown belt varies from the 1979 STAR WARS release. More importantly, you’ll discover that the shape and size of Boba Fett’s helmet are very different on the Retro Collection release when compared to the vintage Kenner release. And we can’t help but notice that the rocket is a lighter and brighter red too. Hasbro was kind enough to add a 2020 date stamp on the back of the Retro Collection Boba Fett’s left leg to quell any concerns that these will be passed off as Kenner’s originals. You shouldn’t be concerned about this. The figures are like night and day when side by side. Interestingly, Hasbro chose to cast ALL of the weapons of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACKfigures in black plastic. As you know, from 1980 through 1982, Kenner cast most of the figures’ weapons in blue plastic (and yes, there are plenty of exceptions to this rule). Boba Fett came packaged with a “blue-black” Stormtrooper blaster, but here the weapon is solid black. The packaging is pretty nice. We should note that the name pill is almost there but not perfect. It's too chunky and not long enough. Also, it shouldn't have the black line around it. STAR WARS figures carried forward into THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK line aren't outlined with the black highlight.

Boba Fett is the most popular character in the Star Wars universe. We don’t think we’re off with that assessment. Hasbro should know to produce solid cases of this figure to meet demand. Collectors who don’t bother with collecting action figures will want this figure. And Boba Fett zealots will need a dozen of each to feel secure in their collections. No matter your position on this line, the Retro Collection should bring out the nostalgia in all of us. One thing that’s wonderful about the Retro Collection is that we’re getting the vintage Kenner card backs from more characters from the original Kenner THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK line. Yes, the figures inside of them come with anywhere from four to five points of articulation. But the packaging alone is a beautiful part of the Retro Collection. And Hasbro is keeping things fresh with the line like they did for the STAR WARS figures when they created Grand Moff Tarkin for the line. For 2020, Hasbro added the Hoth Ice Planet Adventure Game with an exclusive Retro Collection Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder) action figure. We never received this character in the classic Kenner action figure line, and now we’ll have it. Still, we hope that Hasbro decides to take greater risks with the Retro Collection. We hope they keep releasing more of the original Kenner figures, along with ones never produced in this format.
