Vanity Fair Releases New Behind the Scenes Photos From Episode IX

Early this morning, starwars.com reviewed some of the photos from Vanity Fair’s new article. Included are several wonderful behind the scenes photos from the production of the new film. I am loving Keri Russell and Richard E. Grant’s costumes. The lack of R2 and familiar aliens is rather conspicuous, though. Click through for more photos and let us know what your thoughts are in the comments!

Rey and Kylo are wearing their standard Jedi-y and Sith-y costumes. Lando’s lookin’ good in the Falcon with Poe, Chewy, R2 and D-O, and the practical effects of the speeders, etc. look wonderful. I think the costumes from this movie are the best of the Sequel Trilogy, but it would still be nice to see a Rodian in there somewhere. It looks like Rey and Kylo will have a final “boss fight,” and judging by the harsh angles of the structure they are on and the waves crashing about them, I am speculating they may be fighting atop the remains of the Death Star seen in the trailer.

EDIT: For the record, I know R2 is in the photo with Luke, but it doesn’t look like that is a set photo. It doesn’t look like R2 is on set with the rest of the cast. This is just an observation, of course, and I hope R2 has a worthwhile part in the movie.

Here are my favorite pictures from the reveal:

Kerri Russel as Zorri Bliss, a “scoundrel”

Richard E. Grant as Allegiant General Pryde, with a fancy pleated uniform.

C-3PO and R2…. I mean BB-8.

The Knights of Ren. The axe at the very top of the photo looks extremely similar to the one on display with the ancient mandalorian armor in Dryden Vos’ showroom.

And a photo of Luke and R2. From the movie? Leftover photo from TLJ? It's mysterious!
