The Rise Of Skywalker Rumor Round-Up

Hello there! Several rumors for Episode IX are circulating on the interwebs. I believe it may be worth discussing them. So get ready to be potentially spoiled if you click through. If you want to spend the rest of the day blissfully unaware, then stay away! Or else you will be spoiled!

The Rise of Skywalker

Beyond this, here be spoilers!

Warning: contains spoilers! Another warning: contains a (mild) spoiler for Avengers Endgame at the end of the article! If you don’t like that, return to the front page now!

Ok, so now let’s summarize a few of the spoilers making the rounds, starting with the big one:

Han Solo will be back!

Now, Han will not be alive, but the rumor says he’ll be part of a vision Kylo Ren has, which seems to be induced by Luke Skywalker.
It could be that Han will tell Kylo that it’s not too late (to redeem himself?).

Anyway, Harrison Ford was on set and filmed a new scene.

Another rumor says that Rose will indeed be Finn’s love interest in The Rise of Skywalker. I suppose the Tumblr community once again will faint with outrage now. No Reylo, no Poe/Finn…

A fight between Kylo and Rey (or maybe a fight with Kylo and Rey against someone else – Palpatine?) will apparently jump through space (and maybe time?), not unlike the Force flashback sequence we saw in The Force Awakens when Rey touched the lightsaber. It is not known what exactly causes all that, but it seems this fight could take us to locations previously seen in all 8 movies, almost like a greatest hits montage.

And finally: apparently Kylo might not die after all in the movie, but in the end Rey will do something to him (maybe even with his consent) that removes him from the equation, takes him out, maybe even as part of an overall greater plan.

It would make sense not to kill off any of the main heroes for good if Lucasfilm may make more movies with some of the sequel trilogy characters further down the road, as was hinted at by Kathleen Kennedy during SWCC.

So, what do you think? Are you surprised by the alleged return of Han Solo (even if only in a vision)? I think it was always obvious that they might include a scene with him in the (alleged) finale of the Skywalker saga.

And as always, these rumors are in flux. And we lack context. A fight with/between Kylo and Rey across spacetime, taking us to previous locations and events in the Star Wars Saga could be great. Incidentally – and please close your eyes now if you don’t want to be spoiled for Avengers Endgame – this is something the Avengers movie will also do, they will go back (in time) and revisit previous locations from other movies. I don’t know how to feel about it, that both of the grand finales this year use a similar plot device. I suppose it’s something you automatically come up with if you want to pay homage to what has come before and to reminisce for a bit before you conclude things for the grand finale.
