BREAKING NEWS! Force Link Emperor Palpatine Revealed!

Wow. This is an unexpected surprise! It looks like Emperor Palpatine will be coming carded separately in the Force Link basic figure line as evidenced by this eBay auction. Check out on eBay! This figure will probably be in the same case assortment with the X-wing Pilot Asty lookalike character that was revealed at NYCC. Special thanks to JTA reader Josh C. for the alert!

“A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.”

    • This is where the fun begins

      • Yep.

      • Darth Eddie

If stores bother to stock him. ;0)

    • Darth Eddie

Now we will buy a new Emperor figure. A STRONG Emperor figure. One which will not let the failure of past 3.75″ figures continue.

    • Tyler Frechette

“You ever hear of the tragedy of good Emperor Palpatine 3.75 Figures? I thought not. It’s a Sith legend.”

      • Did you ever hear the tragedy of good Emperor Palpatine 3.75 Figures? I thought not. It’s not a figure Hasbro would give you. It’s a Sith legend. Emperor Palpatine was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so popular and so iconic he could use the Force to influence the higher-ups to create figures of himself… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from pegwarming. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to hood proportions some consider to be unnatural. He became so popular… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his articulation, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his follow-up figure nothing he knew, then his apprentice replaced him in his age and obselete-ness. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

        • Tyler Frechette

          Hahahah well done. Perfect.

  • Grand Admiral Tom

Great news. I’m hoping to find the Target 3 pack but would buy this one on site due to how bad distribution has been. I need this Palpatine. I thought that 3-pack was coming 11-1? I’ve been checking Target for it every couple days for it.

  • Mark

I would hope every exclusive multipack release would get a retail single release. Is there anything funnier than “MINT ON CARD-THE ONLY ONE ON EbAY OR AMAZON! MEGA RARE!!!” being shipped with economy? I bet he also ships jewelry in plain white envelopes.

  • Seronious

That was rumored to be single carded for a while now. Still have Hoth Leia, the Asty Clone Pilot, Maz Kanata, and the Emperor for a wave 3. Maybe there’s one or two more, but haven’t heard anything. Also 2 more two packs – Finn vs Phasma, Qui-gon vs Maul.

    • If you had sources, you knew this figure was coming in August. This is the first proof of it.

      • SnTrooper

I’m pretty sure Hasbro said that this would be carded when it was revealed at SDCC. If I remember right this and the Hoth Leia were shown on the slide with the two packs so someone asked how they would be released and Hasbro said single carded.

        • Yes, that too. Still, this is the first proof of it being single-carded. I thought it was pretty cool news.

          • Darth Eddie

It is! This is the first basic-carded 3.75″ OT Emperor in years, possibly since 2004.

          • CT-7567

Does the TLC Emperor from ESB count?

          • Darth Eddie

Sort of. Though he’s more of a Conceptual figure from the head down and based on now-decanonized footage from an earlier version of the film.

          • CT-7567

It’s not decanonized in my mind. 🙂 Glad to see you commenting here again, btw. 🙂

  • 11Eleven11

    That’s a nice job.

  • Excellent news. I found Obi-Wan yesterday at Walmart, and on rollback even. Definitely want the new emperor.

    • Grand Admiral Tom

I found ObiWan at TRU a few weeks ago. Still haven’t found Yoda.

      • Yoda was there, too; just didn’t want him.

      • Nick S.

I’m waiting for the new R2-D2 with the B-A-D molding

        • Darth Eddie

I’m pretty excited about that figure, too. It’ll be nice to get an Artoo in a 5-POA line that isn’t a glorified, partially-unpainted Happy Meal toy without a third leg.

          • Nick S.

Hahaha I don’t think I could’ve said that more perfectly if I tried!

          • Darth Eddie

            Thanks! I appreciate that.

        • Logan

Keep checking Hasbro’s eBay store. I was able to order 2 of them from there.

          • Nick S.

Eh I prefer to find figures out in the wild. So I’ll probably find R2 sometime in December… of next year haha

          • Logan

There’s nothing like finding them out in the wild. I couldn’t resist paying less than $16 for both. I was going to buy extras to open anyways so it worked out.

          • Nick S.

That’s why I have my own Rule of Two: One to display and one to open

          • Logan

That’s a good rule. I only apply it to figures I really want to open though. I learned my lesson during the POTF2 era and now I’m stuck with a ton of obsolete figures, 🙁

          • Nick S.

Ouch. Well I only display figures that I really want. The most recent example being one of my favorite commanders here….

          • Logan

Thrawn is a great looking figure. I have the SDCC version which is pretty much displayable in the box. He’s still available at Disneyland, I might just pick up a third one to open.

          • Nick S.

Well that’s where you got me, I wish I had the SDCC version. I’ve only seen pictures and it looks beautiful.

          • Logan

It’s a great figure. I attended this year and had to sleep outside in line to get a ticket just to buy it. Well worth the wait and good experience. I was also able to get Commander Gree while I was there.

          • Nick S.

Oh very nice! It’s my dream to one day get out there for the big event!

    • Like A Bossk

      Congrats with the find .

    • Do the arms on yours fall off as easily as they did on mine? I couldn’t even rotate them without them falling out. I know not everyone has that issue.

      • No, and I’m grateful. Maybe yours has an extra “action” feature. =-P

      • mechabug

        It’s the new build-a-figure feature!!

      • Jimmy Griffin

Uh oh. That doesn’t make me feel good.

    • Darth Eddie

I still haven’t seen the new Obi-Wan or even the Yoda from his wave assortment but I’m keeping my eyes peeled every time I walk into one of my local big box stores. I hope they stock him soon!

      • CT-7567

Targets have been getting them recently. I’ve never seen them in Walmart.

    • Jimmy Griffin

I haven’t seen him in stores yet. I pre-ordered one on Amazon, but it doesn’t ship until mid-December.

  • Tony Diver

Still waiting for that S.A 3.75″ ROTJ Emperor on vintage card back Hasbro.

    • Darth Eddie

This is where the return of the Vintage Collection comes into play. We got two Prequel-era figures of Palpatine and Sidious in TVC and now it’s time to get a definitive OT Emperor figure on a Vintage cardback. The time has come, and we must not let Hasbro forget or ignore releasing him.

      • Tyler Frechette

        You’re absolutely correct.

        • Darth Eddie

    • Tyler Frechette

YES THANK YOU… And we need a new throne chair PLEASE!!!

  • CJ

That’s a decent looking emperor, but he can’t sit down.

    • Are you channeling someone else this evening?

    • Whats the problem? Its not like he has anything to sit down on.

  • zerobobby77

    Finally something i care about.

  • sam

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but it looks as though this one has a significantly better paint job on the eyes, relative to the Target 3-pack. The Target one has a head and eyes that look more cartoonish. I am surprised that there are differences between the two.

    • Steve Barmash

The resolution is so low I don’t know how you can tell!

  • sam

I can’t see if this one comes with a cane. Do you know if it does, like the Target 3-pack that should have come out on 11/1?

  • Quarax Toa

These eBay-exclusive reveals are pretty cool.

    • LOL.

      • Quarax Toa

One can only wonder how much they paid to get this exclusive first look.

  • Nick S.

“Only one on Ebay or Amazon, Mega Rare!” Talk about making a hard sell. But that Emperor does look awesome!

  • BlackBeltJohnson .

For 5poa, that figure looks pretty frickin sweet!

    • Darth Eddie

Hasbro is really knocking it out of the ballpark when it comes to the facial likeness of Sir Alec Guinness. Even his 5-POA figures look awesome.

    • Caius

Just buy the POTF2 one as it is pretty much the same and probably a lot cheaper. You can even make up your own dialogue when playing with him.

  • Awesome! I want the 3-pack, but I’d also buy an extra carded Emperor given how awesome he looks.

    • Darth Eddie

Same here. I want both versions!

  • Been awhile since he’s been on pegs but they blew a golden opportunity by not including his throne. Especially if it swiveled but can’t say I’m surprised considering it’s 5POA.

  • mechabug

Every time I see a new 5 POA figure sculpt, especially of an OT character, I just want to roundhouse kick my monitor.

  • You know, I’m actually reallly like this Force Link line, despite the 5poa nonsense. A fairly solid assortment of figures, in my opinion. I hope they do some more OT and PT figures in this line. Not to mention, the sculpts are very impressive. Ben and Yoda are incredible, and Papa Palpy looks awesome too.

  • I put in a joke bid of $400…I hope I can retract it later.

  • Darth Eddie

I can feel its greatness. It gives our collections focus….makes them stronger.

  • Darth Bre

This is a great looking figure and I do not mind limited articulation as this is one character where the sculpt is more important for me than articulation. I hope they release the 5poa Royal Guard too so we can army build that.

    • Darth Eddie

Especially since we were supposed to get a 5-POA Royal Guard in the Saga Legends line in 2013 or 2014 but that wave assortment was cancelled before it could ever be produced. A 5-POA Guard would be a pretty nice army builder and wouldn’t be a bad thing since the Royal Guards in the films basically just stand at attention holding their force pikes and looking intimidating.

    • Hazzbro Jonez

or you can just get the black series 3.75 guard???? huh?!?!?

      • Darth Bre

Already have a few of the sa version thanks. I like the fixed helmet and non soft goods on the 5poa version and as they already made it, why not?

        • CT-7567

Excellent idea about a trowback force pike. Like when they included the Kenner gun with the Amazon exclusive BAD TIE Pilot.

  • mg1138

Nice! Still sad about it being 5POA only, but the Force Link gimmick really helps to enjoy those new figures!
Speaking of which, I’m curious to see if this single carded Emperor will have a different Force Link chip inside with different dialogues compared to the 3-pack one… Same question goes for the Kohl 4-pack… I know they’ve done that for the lame boosted X-Wing with identical Poe figure but different chip inside, but don’t know if they’ll make the same “effort” for the multipacks vs single carded…

    • Brian Beck

The single Rey and the 2 pack Rey say different things ( I just checked )

      • mg1138

Ha yes there’s that too, forgot about this one while writing!

  • Darth Lumberg

Why is this exciting? There must be 15 different Emperor figures in existence. If you are new to collecting, Ebay is flooded with them on the cheap.

  • Mother_Talzin

Looks like a great figure, just wondering why they feel we need it repacked in the basic line shortly after the multipack release. Unless this character is in TLJ, it seems like its taking a valuable slot from a new character that could be in the basic line.

    • This is Hasbro’s MO. They release the same stinking figures back to back in different formats which really waters down the line. They need to produce new characters instead of rehashing the same old things.

      • Mother_Talzin

If it were a non-movie year, I could see them repacking this figure, but the 3-pack exclusive should be enough to meet the demand. I’m willing to bet we’ll see some pegwarming. The TLJ line is already rather bland, yet they toss in more repacks instead of giving us TLJ aliens?

We will never see background characters made again. That’s why movie line packaging is no longer made.

          • Tyler Frechette

Ugh I hope you’re wrong but I feel like you’re right.

  • RumSleg

I bet Target wishes it had been able to sell (or at least take pre-orders) on its ROTJ three-pack before this news hit.

  • Jaken Wraith

Seller is in Ohio. The only Palpatine i want is a 6in Darth Sidious in a purple, soft-good’s Robe.

  • Don’t care if he’s 5POA.
    He looks great!
If I find two, I’ll work on a head swap on my TVC or TFU versions.

  • CadeSky

Hmm. I had forgotten that this was also supposed to happen (and that this wouldn’t just be part of the Target 3 pack). I guess it all depends on what I see first in a store! This Emperor does look cool.

  • TonyE

Hasbro Guy: “Hey, do you think we should release that Snoke figure in the overpriced playset as a single-carded figure before Xmas. It would probably sell like hotcakes.” Other Hasbro Guy: “No bro, lets do an emperor, they need more OT stuff.”

  • Kinja

Let’s save the ALL CAPS headlines and exclamation marks for real news….like TVC2.0 leaks and reveals. 😉

  • Mig F.

Get the 3 pack sold at Canadian tire.

  • shane

Another 5 POA must have. I’m so confused.

  • Coleman Miller

$34 for a 5 POA is way too much for me, but if you want him for that price or higher May the Force be with you!

Still, I can’t wait to see if there will be a difference b/t the single card & the 3 pack Palpy. Possibly in face/eye paint. Just hoping the head fits on my Legacy Emperor so we can get an accurate ROTJ look for him. But if things go like they have recently for Hasbro I doubt we’ll see this at brick & mortar retail. I hope I’m wrong.

    • You mean $70

      • Coleman Miller

I went to that auction again and my jaw dropped. The most I’ve ever paid was $60 and that was for a SA figure. Heck the most I ever spent on a 5 POA was vintage Vader and that set me back $35.

  • Tyler Frechette

Am I the only one that’s not particularly excited about this figure? I get it. We all want a new Emperor. But let’s face it, 5POA is still sub-par no matter what. What we SHOULD be doing is clamoring for a TVC ROTJ Emperor Palpatine… With a throne chair, too…

  • Sith Lord Jacen

Hasbro can put the Emperor on this dollar store looking card but we still don’t have a Vintage Collection version.

  • Tom Chorlton

This figure looks like a mild improvement over that really crummy Saga Collection one. But not much.

  • ShipGirlLover

Meh, I’m fine using my TVC Darth Sidious figure as a stand in Emperor at this point.

Tired of these 5POA figures that can only stand there and do nothing else. Really thinking of giving up the 3.75 line minus the TVC Snoke and Aphra (the only NEW figures) coming out next year.

    • CT-7567

Those are the only new figures coming in TVC in all of 2018? What about the Hovertank Driver?

  • Darth Parsley

Nice probably gonna pick this one up
