JTA Teams Up With Victoria's Cantina To Deliver The SDCC Hasbro Q&A

We are honored to have teamed up with our good friend, the illustrious Victoria from Victoria’s Cantina, this year to conduct our Hasbro Q&A during San Diego Comic Con. We also entered the current century because the Q&A is in the form of a video. This time YOU get to see the wry smiles and illuminating expressions on the Hasbro Team’s faces. While we focused our efforts on learning as much as we could about The Vintage Collection, there is plenty of stuff here on The Black Series 6″ line and 5POA as well. Reissue older 6″ figures? Gray-haired Han Solo? Using 6″ to make SA 3.75″ and vice versa? Will there be more 40th anniversary love in TVC? Will there be 40th The Empire Strikes Back figures? What about the fate of playsets? You’ll get the answers to all of these questions and more, so be sure to check out what this beautiful bunch of people had to say by clicking the thumbnail below!

  • It’s official. I have been shamed by Hasbro!

    • SteveU1

Lol! They were happy not to see you for sure

      • It’s an interesting relationship lol

        • General Hux

Basically the definition of a Love/hate relationships right? 🙂

          • I would say its like the relationship Paul and I have.

          • bmales01

            back off my man!

      • MrStevie18

Not true at all. I was actually hoping paul was going
To be there. I am sure we will have a good chat at NYCC. Right paul?

        • Yes, I wish I could have been to see you and Joe too. Until they can “beam me up” over to California, I can’t see myself taking a plane ride for that long. No fear, just unbearable traveling conditions for me. I will see you at HASCON, NYCC and Toy Fair. There will be plenty of more opportunities for additional questions, so don’t you worry. 🙂

          • Tyler Frechette

A Star Trek reference in a Star Wars thread?! BLASPHEMY!

I jest. But paying for the “extra leg room” might be helpful…

        • SteveU1

I know. It is all in good fun to joke around about it. You made paul and many of us very happy with all the recent and upcoming vintage. Keep It coming!

        • TatooineSandworm

You are making a terrible mistake by putting the Death Trooper on the Vintage card and not the Scarrif Trooper. One actually arrived at Walmart in two cases. The other barely trickled out in one case. Hey, you asked us to tell you 🙂

But honestly, that was a much better Q&A than you guys have given in the past. Thanks for the olive branch to the fans/collectors.

We still need Fenn Rau. Please don’t say you are *thinking* about it in 2018. Just do it.

          • Tyler Frechette

I wouldn’t say it’s a terrible mistake to go with the Death Trooper instead of the Shore Trooper. They are both highly sought figures and troopers. The mistake is favoring either over the other. BOTH should be re-released.

        • shane

The Scarif Trooper is my #1 want. Period. PLEASE ! Very shocked to hear it isn’t a given for wave 1 or 2.
I would buy Black Series and TVC. Again, PLEASE !

    • rebelsfangirl

I’m jealous, I’d love to be shamed by Hasbro.

      …is what I’d say if I were weird…

      • Steve Stuber

Not in a Cersei Lannister’s penance kind of shaming.

  • Darth Goat

I’m away from home right now. Rebelsfangirl? I hope you’re getting a summary ready!

    • rebelsfangirl

      Give me 20 minutes. :p

      • rebelsfangirl

        22 minutes, not bad.

    • Oh come on. It’s worth watching

      • Yes it is! We work hard to edit these. 🙂

        • Mike_5555

Great job, Victoria! Thanks for doing this.

        • Gary O’ Driscoll

Thank you for producing it. Really informative and interesting to watch.

        • Tyler Frechette

You did a great job, thank you for being our voice.

        • CT-7567

          It’s very much appreciated. 🙂

  • bmales01

This team up must be code for ‘Yazflow doesnt want to speak with Paul anymore’

    • Paul doesn’t come to California. There’s too much sun for him.

      • bmales01

That was my second guess. I have to agree with him. That plane ride and the time zone change is a killer. I hate it we I have to do it for business

        • No kidding. It took me about three weeks to recover from spending half a month in Japan.

          • bmales01

I never had these problems when i was young. sigh

      • He doesnt want his cardback to yellow does he?

  • bmales01

when should we expect the transcript and summary?

  • Mark

This all sounds pretty good. $10-15 price point huh? That’s a pretty big range.

    • Mark
      • General Hux

Upvoted for hilarious Seinfeld gifs…But I have no problem paying $15.

        • Mark

I would have a problem for this reason. Hasbro, the company that will make TVC2, has now publicly stated that TVC2 will cost you and me $10, or possibly 50% more than that, $15. Consider this analogy. What if I offer you a job for $15 an hour but maybe you’ll just get $10 an hour instead? Wouldn’t you want to know why I was low-balling you? So since Hasbro has been consciously handing us crappy figures for the last few years that cost too much money, is it fair that they are suddenly like, ok ok here you go…quality figures that we could have given you the whole time..but it’s going to cost you something extra. And we’re not going to give you any justification for it.

      • Funtomaz

What would your reaction be if you had to pay European prices? 😛
Walmart SA figures are 19 euros here (22.15 USD). I fully expect TVC to be even more expensive, 20 euros at least (23.32 USD).
It’s always hilarious for Europeans when fans from the USA complain about “high” prices… 😀 We’d be all like gif number 1 here if TVC figures were 15 euros and 6 in figures 20 or 22 euros instead of 35.

    • zx_spectrum_30

Given they tried pushing TFA 5poa at £9.99 I was concerned that TVC2 would be pushing £19.99

At £10 I’ll snap them up, at £15 it will be selected ones at full price and then waiting for discount on the rest.

      • Same here, Up to £13 for everything, anything more is more select. (I’d probably still buy them anyway)

      • Han solo’s flying gloves

Couldn’t agree more, I was expecting north of £17 for sure…

    • Mike_5555

It is a wide range, and I suspect it will be closer to $15.

      • Jaken Wraith

I’d say between $13.99 and $15.99. Be more than Walmart, my guess is $14.99.

    • Jebediaah

I’m thinking $12.97 at Wally and $14.99 at Toys R Us.

  • Jaken Wraith

Good question’s. I think we all were distracted by “Groot” looking in the Case though lol. When talking about the 5poa Stormtrooper they mention it was the first time they really had a good Actor in the Armor for the Scan to base the Sculpt off of. That kinda’ confirms my idea that the reason we had the “chubby” Leia was nothing more but a bad casting choice. And also from this the next time i see a “Fenn Rau” pop-up somewhat reasonable, i am jumping on it. I don’t have a good feeling of him being re-issued anytime soon. Aug those $40 pre-order’s are supposed to ship, some will pop-up then.

  • Rogue 13

I know forecasting assortments is tricky (though they should be much better at it by now) but they definitely have to work on pulling the peg warmers. When product doesn’t move, everyone loses. It has crippled line after line, year after year, far too early, like after the first or second wave.

  • Han solo’s flying gloves

Thank you for the video JTA & VC!
Great to the point questions, with some very interesting answers (& expressions).I know I shouldn’t get to excited given recent history/ issues, but the guys seem very onboard / genuine to listening to the collector’s consumer wants?
The 6” down to 3.75 & vice versa was interesting ‘if we do a new vader’ etc I hope so.
Any yak face mention gets me happy so enough said, well apart from playsets!!!.Again I hope so.
    Hurry up 2018!!!!

    • Kalzeth

I missed that. What did he say about 6″ to 3.75″?

    • Mike_5555

They need to shrink down the 6″ figures more frequently. Let’s finally get definitive versions of ANH Leia, Bespin Lando, and Qui-Gon. The 6″ Ahsoka and the upcoming Rex would be amazing additions to the 3.75″ line as well.

      • General Hux

They basically did shrink down Qui-Gon…to 5POA.

        • Mike_5555

Yeah, that’s what we wanted. Another 5 POA figure.

          • General Hux

I think the figure looks awesome but it’s kind of a tease because the head sculpt is perfect and would make it a definitive Qui-Gon if he was SA.

          • Mike_5555

Exactly. Whenever they produce a 5 POA figure with a great sculpt, especially when it’s a new character or one without a definitive figure, I just get frustrated. Think about all of the RO figures or something like the Jedi Temple Guard.

          • General Hux

Also the 5POA Stormtrooper, I love that figure but I want it SA form badly. I could list off many more.
That’s one thing about 5POA I really like, the amazing sculpts.

          • Mike_5555

That’s frustrating thing about the 5 POA line, so many missed opportunities.

          • Matthew Leuck

            7 POA… :/

  • Danny

IF I weren’t already married, I’d ask Victoria to marry me. Lol.
Good job Victoria and jta for bringing this interview to us.

    • shane

She seems very shy to actually be on camera, she hides behind it. I can’t imagine why. She’s awesome.

  • CadeSky

Thanks for the video! I could see a $15 price point pretty easily. Looking at another of Hasbro’s licenses, the 3.75′ Marvel figures have gone up to a $12.99 MSRP and they never have accesories and honestly, the articulation is often below what would qualify for SA (often no waist articulation). Those figures do seem like a ripoff. But a $15 SA Star Wars figures with accesories and a collectible card back sounds a lot better to me.

If we can expect “15ish” TVC figures in 2018 we might already know everything that we’ll be seeing in the next year and a half, huh? That’s a slow start because of the Walmart reissues (sorry but as an opener I am not likely to double dip on figures that I already own).

    • ashmodai

I agree I also open my figs. They say that these should not peg warm but I’m afraid they will 99 percent of what we saw is repacked and most of them were not too hard to find. I don’t expect t 60 figs a year but only 15 is going to make a long 2018.

  • DarthXit

Story reasons… Really! This is why they are doing TVC death trooper instead of the scarif trooper… This is why they cannot forecast supply that is demanded.. Their answer to whether a death trooper would be on Jedha was technically true but really dumb justification. Sell the one people want!!!!!!

    • Mike_5555

It’s not like the Death Trooper is a bad choice though. It’s a great figure, an army builder, and has barely made it out to retail. I still haven’t even found one.

      • Tyler Frechette

I would just like them to include the scoped DLT. That would make me happy. And find some way to attach the pistol to the leg.

      • CT-7567

You’re going to love it. I still don’t have a Scarif Trooper.

    • MrStevie18

It was more about packaging story reason. I’ll give paul the context when I see him next.

      • DarthXit

Steve…thank you for the reply. I hope my comment did not come off as acerbic? Looking forward to Paul’s clarification. Many of us have questions about product mix of which this seems to be an example. I know that production/distribution decisions are more complex (and central to overall corporate strategy) than I can certainly understand not having any back office perspective.. but any rudimentary explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

        • MrStevie18

It’s all good. 😊 I’m sure Paul and I will have a good chat soon enough and get some clarity to the community. That’s my plan.

  • DaveChap

Interesting to hear that R2 and Han as well as wave 2 of the 40th anniversary are still coming out. Even if it’s 2018, it looks like those who missed out will be able to get them. That’s great news!

  • DaveChap

They are a little short-sighted with the 40th anniversary as a collection. They could have easily made a non-foiled Luke in X-wing gear, Sandtrooper (orange and white shoulder pauldrons), Han and Luke in Stormtrooper disguise and some multi-figure packs all under the 40th brand with simple re-release figures. Then continue with adding Tarkin, Rebel Trooper, Panda Baba, etc. 40th anniversary could have been the vessel to get older 6″ figures of OT into hands of new collectors.

  • JAL

Kudos to JTA and Victoria for a solid interview. Well done!

  • julythrunov

I’m sorry but I can’t help but feel like they are annoyed to even be talking about vintage collection. They just seem bothered by it. Maybe it’s just me

    • Han solo’s flying gloves

They probably were expecting Paul to show up after all,as soon as Victoria mentioned vintage!! And we’re just preparing themselves…

  • Commander Joe276

Thanks so much to everyone who accomplished this! Happy with just about everything but I wish we were getting more than 15 figures per year, and he also didn’t sound to promising about getting Clone Wars characters into the line

    • Mike_5555

Yeah, the answer about getting more TCW characters doesn’t give me much hope.

      • Commander Joe276

Exactly he didn’t sound too confident with his response. The TVC TCW Anakin, Obi Wan, Ahsoka, TBS Mace, and the SOTDS Rex all look so damn good together that I want MORE 😂 If they made a new figure out of the new TBS6 Rex I’d be really pleased.

  • rebelsfangirl

-Hasbro shame Paul for his absence
-Looking at ways to ship Bistan (and Fenn Rau) in 2018
-Talking about ESB 40th, may do it like ANH, might never do it again.
-40th anniversary wave one is done, R2 and Han are being solid packed. Wave 2 starting to hit shelves now, should be plenty. Under ordered for EU, new production run is for them
-Some grey haired Solos were shipped, up to retailers to order them, working on putting it in a case assortment
-Talking about re-issuing older 6″ figures like Maul and Boba Fett. Greatest Hit collection, solid packs mentioned, 2018 and beyond.
-TVC Scarif stormtrooper still planned (not sure of context)
-will good 6″ figures be shrunk down to 3.75″? probably, would shrink new 6″ Vader
-Classic characters will be revisited in TVC2
    -No Tonnika sisters
    -Considering playsets very seriously
    – More cantina, jabba palace and skiff guards in TVC2? Yes, one of the main reasons for TVC 2 is to fill gaps
-SA 3.75″ Rogue One Stormtrooper? Good chance of it happening. First time they had a scan of the full armour on an appropriate sized actor
-return of collector coins? hadn’t thought about it, interesting idea
-TVC2 price point between 10-15 dollars probably, hoping no figures pegwarm, listening to fans, want as many out as possible, won’t be 60 a year. 15 for first year, steadily grow it. Focused line for fans, hoping their choices will reflect demand and minimize pegwarming
-Realistic Clone Wars figures? Yes in TVC2, if they do more.

I’m in a bit of a rush but hopefully I haven’t made anything too inaccurate.

Thanks Victoria and JTA for the excellent interview. 🙂

    • Commander Joe276

      Great job! 👍🏻

      • rebelsfangirl

        Thanks. 🙂

    • zx_spectrum_30

Thanks for transcribing – I’m afraid I find online videos tedious (no offence JTA) so appreciate the quick summary.

      • If it’s worth saying, write it!

      • rebelsfangirl

No problem, I like to have transcripts for things so I can get the information fast if I don’t have time to watch it right away. Plus its handy to check back later without having to watch the whole video again.

    • No Tonnika sisters?

More cantina, jabba palace and skiff guards in TVC2? Yes, one of the main reasons for TVC 2 is to fill gaps

      Please.

      • rebelsfangirl

They still don’t have the likeness rights to either Tonnika sister. so no tonnika sisters figures. I’ve edited to make that clearer

        • Get them Hasbro!

        • They have the rights to one of them.

          • rebelsfangirl

Oh good, if I knew that I had forgotten it lol.

          • My guess is that since the characters, depending on what Legends you read, are sometimes considered twins it could present a murky area if they made even one of them. Especially since the surviving actress claims to be named what the other actress has traditionally been named. The whole thing is kind of a mess. I don’t blame them for not wanting to tempt a possible lawsuit.

          • General Hux

That was a very interesting episode of Cantina Chatter when you had that actress on the show, it is indeed very confusing.

          • bobcat

well, its legal stuff. so even if the actual actress thinks its fine and has signed her likeness there must be some red tape on hasbros end that they havent got or done or whatever. legal b.s. im not surprised cause that stuff can be kinda weird. :/

          • Walter Edinger

surviving actress wont sign away her likeness without royalties she never signed them only the now deceased actress signed.

          • ronstoneygold

That’s what I gathered from your interview too. My heart dropped as the interview progressed. Then my heart dropped again in hearing Joe say “they” ain’t coming. Our only hope now is if the surviving actress would view the circumstance as an opportunity for immortalization. She ain’t gonna get anything above and beyond what others in that movie have gotten. But she would get an opportunity in benefiting in signings after a contract is signed.

I feel though this won’t happen unless properly and delicately encouraged by someone else. Hasbro has nothing to gain by approaching her because in so doing, they automatically give her a bargain tool.

          • Walter Edinger

not going to happen she wants royalties for her likeness and I agree.

          • localfromiskalon

Agreed. Victoria gave a great interview; it was a real downer when the actress got to that issue…

          • rebelsfangirl

Good point, I can’t blame them for being cautious either under the circumstances.

          • Walter Edinger

            yeah the dead one.

      • Brian Beck

just get some Aphra’s and do customs.

        • One heck of a custom.

          • Brian Beck

I didn’t say it would be easy 🙂 they are both long hair brunettes, so that would be the starting point. Aphra’s look is different on every page of the comic, so we have no idea what the end product may be.

          • You’ve not seen the model scan shown at the presentation?
The hair is completely different though.

          • Brian Beck

No, I haven’t. With the flood of news-info-and pics on both here and yakface, I’ve glossed over it all. Let me know when i can buy this stuff, then I’ll pay closer attention ! 😉

    • General Hux

Thanks for doing this…But I’m not gonna read it because I actually want to watch it. 🤣

      • rebelsfangirl

You should definitely watch it over reading the summary. 🙂

    • Sim Brown

@rebelsfangirl:disqus Awesome! Thanks for asking for Yakface, as well as inquiring about Bistan and Fen Rau. I guess Fen Rau is going to end up on some other packaging though.

    • bmales01

      thank you

    • Lando Griffin

Also: Sounds like they intend to complete the 92 (hopefully 96, R2 sensorscope, lightsaber and 3PO)
ESB 40 6″: The rep on the right already has an idea what figures would comprise that.
Hasbro, if you’re reading, add Blue Snag and individually carded Rebo band to TVC please!

      • I don’t think you could do them carded with the instruments. They would need a small TVC box.

But if you do this release Jabba and his Throne with Oola and a Gammie set as well.

      • Mike_5555

It was encouraging that he specifically mentioned Yak Face and Sim Aloo without being asked about them.

    • bmales01

I guess I can always watch my home made videos of Paul I take from that branch

      • General Hux

        Uh, what?

        • bmales01

the branch in the tree next to his window

          • General Hux

            Sneaky, which window?

          • Rivesjunctionite

Obviously not the one you’re using

          • CT-7567

            That’s very…. disturbing. 🙂

          • bmales01

            thank you

    • Rivesjunctionite

I’m so tired of Hasbro “looking for ways” to deliver product they announced. Manufacture it, put it in a shipping case, and send it along with the rest of your crap – er, finely crafted toys. It ain’t brain surgery. There’s no excuse waiting 3-5 years to get poorly distributed toys repacked. Sounds like Bistan and the TVC shore trooper will become my next Walrusman.

      • General Hux

My next Walrusman…Is still Walrusman, what’s wrong with that crap?!

        • Rivesjunctionite

Precisely. And they won’t re-re-release him again, even though they screwed up the re-release. Hopefully WM has gobs of these in their warehouse waiting for Phasmas and E7 Leias to clear out the pegs.

          • bobcat

i think they do. the snow jacket han, leia wave has been in my area pegwarming for what seems a year now. it came out last fall again when the Rogue One figures hit. lots of stuff came out that day and a lot is still around in terms of the SA line. the han/leia wave mostly. come force friday i wouldnt be suprirsed if the more current SA 3 3/4” waves hit shelves quite heavily. even the lando one which wasnt on shelves that much around here.

          • Mike_5555

Good luck getting rid of those TFA Leias. I have four Walmrts near me and they each have about 15 TFA Leias and Hans. Then it’s a mix of the various other TFA figures like Finn and Phasma. They can’t even sell them at $5.

          • CT-7567

Yet Hasbro expects people that already have them to buy them again for $15 because they’re on a vintage card. Like you said above, getting the Walmart figures repacked was inevitable. Choosing them to launch the new TVC is just plain stupid.

          • Mike_5555

Exactly. Potentially, the same figures will be sitting next to each on the shelves but one will $5 and the other $15. I love the TVC packaging, but how many consumers will pay an extra $10 for a figure they already passed on or purchased because the packaging is different?

          • CT-7567

I bought figures in the original TVC that were repacks. But they were spread out among lots of new figures. Boba Fett, 4-LOM and Vader were included in an excellent first wave with the others being new figures. Repack dominant first waves remind me of Movie Heroes or even the Walmart line.

        • Littlegreenwiseguy

No doubt! Here in eastern Wisconsin, there’s been NO RESTOCK of the Walmart TBS 3.75″ since the JYN ERSO & DEATH TROOPER wave shipped once just before Christmas last year. 4 pegs for them and only one HAN SOLO (TFA) and two FINNs and the three of them won’t sell even at $5.84.😣😝

          • Kevin Knight

From Eastern Wisconsin to Northern South Carolina my friend. More than a couple Han, Leia, and Finn here

        • CT-7567

The fact that Ponda Baba was just re-released and you can’t find one is unacceptable. Distribution HAS TO CHANGE for TVC.

        • Rivesjunctionite

          Tunghori has him for $14.99.
          Also Bastila.

          • General Hux

Oh cool, I may do that, still have to pay shipping though. :-/

          • Rivesjunctionite

Get some other army builders or droids. Make it worth the shipping.

          • General Hux

Woah!! TVC Maul is in stock as well!…I think I need to make an order.

          • Rivesjunctionite

            Now you’re cooking!

    • Super Amigo

“[…]Focused line for fans, hoping their choices will reflect demand and minimize pegwarming[…]”

      Wishful thinking, I say.

Fans will chose obscure, uninteresting (or simply erased from continuity) characters just for the sake of being protagonists of a pointless viral online campaign, leading to the release of a text book pegwarmer.

      • rebelsfangirl

Some will, but I don’t think they are talking formal voting structures which can be rigged, just paying attention to what people on fansites are saying, which should make it more obvious when malicious campaigns are being waged.

    • CT-7567

      Thanks, RFG. 🙂

    • shane

Don’t forget. Only 15 figures first year !

    • RumSleg

THANK YOU!!! Very helpful. I can’t watch video at work (and therefore am not a fan of news reports moving to more video content). 🙂

  • DaveChap

Honestly, Hasbro should have all of their current figures in stock on HTS. They shouldn’t be sold out on their own site until the figure is finished. Raven selling out immediately isn’t a distribution problem or issue with peg warmers. Is it Hasbro heightening demand themselves?

    • Kalzeth

This is a no brainer. I know people enjoy the hunt but retail as we know it has fundamentally changed. Many of the consumer companies are going straight to consumer now or shifting to amazon as Nike just did

  • Lando Griffin

So 15 TVC figures in 2018, and grow that number the following year? I shouldn’t complain, something is better than nothing. But I think the market would easily soak up 30 next year.

    • Mike_5555

15 is better than nothing but it’s a little disappointing when a lot of slots are already taken up by figures that juts came out in TBS and are still readily available in stores. The Death Trooper is a smart repack but Rey, Kylo, Jyn, and Cassian seem redundant even if I understand why they were included.

      • Especially when we already know 10 of them and of those 10, only 2 are new.

        • Mike_5555

Repacks are unavoidable and were going to be a necessary part of any new TVC line, but that ratio is very disappointing. We’re only getting 15 figures a year. If the line has any hope of surviving there needs to be a healthy mix of new figures and repacks. It shouldn’t be a repack line with a few new figures thrown in there, and the repcaks need to highly desired figures or guaranteed sellers.

          • CT-7567

            Exactly.

          • One of the two new figures is Dr. Aphra.

          • The Hover Tank Pilot didn’t sell very well in the 6″ scale.

          • No one cares about 6″.

          • General Hux

            Amen

          • Lord Toys

There’s no Tank coming for the Pathetic 6″…..😀

          • General Hux

Wow, Paul used an emoji, what’s it like being hip?

          • Lord Toys

            I’m not Paul…. Lol

          • General Hux

Oh goodness, I was one of the first goons who changed my profile pic to the one he uses…And now this happens. Lol

          • Lord Toys

Lol.. I changed it to this when we were campaigning to get SA Vintage back… Just left for now.. Sorry 🙏

          • General Hux

You’re fine! LOL I would’ve kept that as mine too but couldn’t resist having Freddie Mercury as my avatar. 🙂

          • CT-7567

True, but I’m happy to get him as a 3.75″ SA figure. I have the 5poa version from the Jedha Revolt set and it’s a nice sculpt. Making it SA will only make it better. The biggest problem is launching the wave with repacks of peg-warmers.

          • shane

For $80 for the tank, he should just be included.

          • CT-7567

I get what you’re saying. $80 is a lot for a vehicle. TVC vehicles have always been packaged like old Kenner ships, which never had pack-in figures. Personally, I prefer to have pilot figures sold separately, but including the figure would definitely soften the blow of the $80 price tag. I think if that tank turns out as good as it looks, with all the features, extra space and opening kyber crystal containers, it will be worth the money. Obviously something like $59.99 would be ideal, but I don’t see that happening.

          • shane

I’m going to buy it. And probably 3 TVC Drivers. Since there are only 15 TVC figures, that does make room for the vehicle financially. I did expect more than 15 figures, but I suggested many times over the years at least 12 a year.
So I’m getting what I asked for pretty much.
And my 5 POA Driver is going to have a home now.

        • CT-7567

Yup. Hasbro is putting too much stock in the power of vintage cards. The TFA figures are rotting on pegs everywhere. Now we find out there might only be 15 figures in the first year and most of them are repacks? I think Hasbro is making an epic mistake. Plus, if most of them are repacks then why not just release those sooner? Why do we have to wait until spring to buy old figures? Is it that difficult to slap them on vintage cards?

  • Brian Beck

Not a single question about the distribution problems and what their fix is !?

I’ll say it again: it does’nt matter how bendy the elbows are or what blink and you miss it character they are releasing, if you can’t find it !

    • We did ask about that. And they responded by saying, as usual, that they’re working on the case assortment ratios and shipping more to retail while also offering more single case packs.

      • Brian Beck

But you should have asked with a Glock 19 in your hand, to get the point across 😉 :):)

  • Funtomaz

Nice and friendly interview, some good info too. Well done! 🙂
However, it was very US-centric, yes, I know the USA is the most important single market for the Black Series and TVC. However, a quick question about distribution woes in Europe would have been nice. It also would have been nice to learn if Hasbro would ever produce deluxe diorama sets like a Millennium Falcon cockpit for 6 and 3.75 inch, or some consoles etc. Especially after seeing that great SDCC display they had.

  • Mark

Did anyone ever address the sticker resistant plastic used in the TFA Falcon? That was a pretty bonehead material to use for anything other than paint.

  • General Hux

Hey Steve, we let you know that we want the Scarif Stormtrooper…release it! 🙂

    • General Hux

But great job with this Q&A, Victoria and JTA!! And thank you SOO much for asking about the Shoretrooper.

      • CT-7567

The Scarif Trooper just begs to be on a vintage card. All four RO figures do, imo, but especially the Scarif Trooper and Deathtrooper.

    • CT-7567

      I second that.

  • Rykrof_Enloe

    Great job asking questions Victoria.

While cardboard dioramas are a real letdown for me, I guess that’s better than nothing… I do wish when Steve mentioned he is a fan of playsets, that he would have elaborated a little more… we need some good, sturdy, plastic diorama/playsets in 3.75″… lots actually.

I do feel that the Hasbro team at this SDCC has had their best showing in a while, and seems to be a lot more “in touch” with the fan community and they are putting on a much better PR face than in recnt years. I hope that continues and better times are ahead for all in this hobby.

    • MrStevie18

Appreciate your comment. Thanks. We are trying our best to support all of our consumers and fans.

      • General Hux

Are you at all overwhelmed when you venture into these comment sections? 🙂

BTW, I told you over on Instagram we would have plenty of thoughts to share. 😉

        • MrStevie18

Hux – Haha. I know the risks. But as my granddad used to say, “if you want to learn to swim you got to jump in the deep end.”

          • General Hux

Those are words of wisdom…They’re also may be sharks (JTA comment section) in the deep end. 😉

          • Tyler Frechette

I’m sure you get hounded with requests and suggestions all the time, but I just want to say that a TVC Thrawn shrunk down from the 6″ version with AT-AT commander helmet and armor as shown in Zero Hour of Rebels would be a HUGE hit. Just an idea… There would be a lot of happy campers, including myself.

      • CT-7567

Mr. Evans, please don’t kill this line(TVC) before it has a chance to thrive by including mostly repacks in the first waves. The TFA figures are sitting in Walmarts across the country right now, marked down to $5, and people aren’t buying them. If you only offer 15 figures in 2018 and most of them are repacks ,that could be severely detrimental to the overall success of the line. Yes, some people will buy them again because they are on vintage cards, but not enough people to make TVC2 a success for Hasbro. Your company has the capability to provide a product that is highly desirable. We, as fans and collectors, have the capability to make that product successful and profitable for Hasbro. But if you start the line off with only 15 figures in 2018 and they are mostly comprised of repacks from the Walmart TBS, it’s not going to go over well. Thank you for your time and effort in returning to us a truly cherished action figure line. But please give it a real chance to succeed by choosing the figures wisely and fixing distribution. It MUST be of concern to you that so many if us WANT to buy Hasbro’s merchandise but can’t actually find it anywhere.

        • shane

          Hear hear !! Word !

      • Kevin Knight

Might I suggest just taking a look at articles like this one:
        http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/specialreports/Vintage-vs-Modern-2014/
when you are doing whatever research you do. *(There are links to prior articles like that one at the top of that page)*

The insights that can be gained are immeasurable as it will tell you what is great about each figure and will surely motivate you in the proper direction for the first 92 or first however many figures. There are also plenty of characters beyond the Walmart Black Series that could be rereleased… Those are so current, that even 2018 might not be far enough away to sell them again. Especially when there are figures like the Vintage Collection Vader, Gamorrean, Emperor, Weequay, that would all be great.

  • David Cruz

Enjoyed watching the video. The only thing that’s made me cringed a little was the reason the gentleman gave about Scarif Trooper not being part a story theme in Jedha with the Tank. Is just suprising… but they’ll get to it without a doubt.

    • darthmadonna

I cringed also! I was like what???????? lol SMH

      • General Hux

Same, that really ticked me off. LOL

        • darthmadonna

I was thinking though it could be Lucas film pushing the Deathtrooper. Think about it he is the face of Rogue One packaging. There is Death Trooper bedding, and pillows. Hot Toys released 2 different version of the DT. DT helmets, DT is everywhere. It has been said that Lucasfilm at times dictate or direct focus on certain characters. I also think the constant DT in your face could be cause for some to have the reaction to want and see shoretroopers because we are sick of DTs everywhere.

          • General Hux

I love Death Troopers, but I prefer the Shoretrooper design it’s a just such a fresh and new design.

          • darthmadonna

I love both . I really was happy with all the trooper designs in R1 including the AT ACT and hover tank pilots.

          • CT-7567

I love both. Trying to pick a favorite is too difficult. 🙂

          • shane

            Yep !

    • Brian Beck

the ‘cannon nerd’ in me wanted to scream 🙂 DT are elite, and would not be escorting a tank, while SHORE troopers could/would. they will be on my set up 😉

      • Haha…they even wear the SAME armor for craps sake! Evans should have at least realized that point.

  • Good deal! Excellent interview, Victoria. I’m glad my older 6″ question got in there. Many people asking me about older figures they missed out on.

    • Thank you, Colin! Such an interesting idea about a possible greatest hits assortment.

      • Seronious

I hate the idea of a “greatest hits”. I want to see them keep chugging along. They’ve only made 35 figures from the original kenner figures, and still have 62 others to go.

  • SteveU1

They are testing demand at 15ish for 2018. I think sales are going to blow past anything they can imagine. So for 2019 i can see 30+ and a few vehicles. I cant wait
For that hovertank. That thing has to be about 18″ long i would think. Sounds like it will have all the bells and whistles so i am ready and willing to pay up for it

  • Nick Dickens

Brilliant video idea. Thank you I can’t wait to watch it. It’s always great to put faves to people. 🙂

  • Kalzeth

Great video. They mention a dialogue, beyond posting on the forums here what is a good way for the community to engage them. I don’t know we would do it but it seems to me a hybrid of the figure poll and a kickstarter pledge would be a good way to show interest. The ideal way would for Hasbro to say hey we are thinking of these 30 figures for next year, commit to buying the ones you want and the ones that cross a certain threshold get made. Not sure Hasbro would do that though.

  • PeakOB1

head shaking no and we got a maybe when you asked him about clone wars…. bummer!
    doesn’t seem promising =/

    • Mike_5555

Yeah, that wasn’t very promising. 🙁

There are so many missed opportunities for great TCW figures.

      • PeakOB1

And that’s why I do My Customizing the Clone Wars youtube show every single Sunday, which BTW you can check out tonight for inspiration if you choose to make your own toys and fill in all those missed opportunities =)

      • CT-7567

That’s an understatement. The TCW line easily could’ve ran another couple of years just based on characters from the first five seasons. One of the real tragedies of TCW line’s demise is that by the SOTDS phase they were really making little works of art. Embo, Viszla, jetpack Rex, second Kit Fisto, CW44, Seripas, Colt, the amazing second Mace Windu. All three dimensional replicas of what we saw on-screen. Imagine if all the figures that went unmade were done with the quality of the SOTDS figures? What a terrible missed opportunity.

        • Mike_5555

There’s a dual tragedy with the TCW line. First the SOTDS line contains some of the best figures Hasbro has ever produced, and second the TCW line was essentially abandoned when the show hit its creative peak (second half of season three to the end )

    • I thought the same too. They arent planning anything, or even had it on their radar…

      • PeakOB1

I really want to get people to continue to hound them on clone wars and rebels, I really want to see who is driving this disinterest hasbro or Disney
Honestly theirs a treasure trove of characters they could make from those show that people would actually buy.
Did anyone ask them if more rebels figures were coming either?

        • I bet no one asked for more realistic Rebels characters, but I also bet we will see them before we see Clones Wars characters.

  • Binary_Son

    Great work on the interview!

After so many bleak years for 3.75″ I’m at last starting to feel some optimism. Having said that, I’m realistic, considering the space that will be left after repacks and ‘new entertainment’ I’ll be happy if we receive as much as 5 all new OT sculpts in the line per year.

  • darthmadonna

I started looking at the Hasbro team much like politicians. Lots of talk and positive adjectives but I will not support them until I see real positive actions. Actions speak louder than words. I just cant shake the feeling that Steve guy sees the 6″ line as his baby and does not care for the noise about or cares for 3.75″ in general. I have never met him obviously and it is just my perception. I am hopeful though and all I want is some decent 3.75″ figures. Speaking of actions , the variant rebel Hoth soldier and that hover tank is a great example. I am very pleased and think that shows they may actually give a squat.

    • The hovertank driver was a no brainer and should have been a part of the walmert line. They had the body sculpt and the head ready to go and just had to switch the paint apps from scarif to tank. It was a missed opportunity unless they really had their minds set on only making tank troopers when they had the vehicle planned out.

      • darthmadonna

This is a why the Scarif trooper is so important. There is 3 different Scarif troopers that could be made then you can do the AT-Act driver and the Hover tank driver all based off one body.

        • CT-7567

          I’d want all of them.

  • darthmadonna

25ish figures a year I think would be good. They need to balance that out though between all the films and ancillary media. New movie media should be 50 percent of the make up followed by say a 20 for OT and 20 PT leaving 5-10 for stuff like TCW, novel, comics, games etc. Star Wars does have fans all over the place and it would be nice to have a mix for everyone.

  • Xo Tica

Talk is cheap, show us the goods and take our money. No matter what these guys say the final decisions will be with the bean counters, focus groups and big box retailers.
Great interview by the way less threatening than Paul 😂

  • It wasn’t a coincidence that he mentioned “Yak Face” by the way….

    • CT-7567

He should’ve been in the first TVC. Thanks for pushing so hard for the figures we want. I firmly believe you got Hasbro to re-release the ERG and Ponda Baba. When Yak Face is released in TVC I’d say you deserve some credit for that one, too.

      • shane

I don’t firmly believe it but boy do I hope your right.

  • Tyler Frechette

I am grateful and happy to be seeing the return of TVC and high-quality SA 3.75 figures, to be sure. So let me just start with that. I have to say though… Why only 15 new figures a year?? That’s… Really underwhelming. Why “can’t” you do more? You’ve done it before Hasbro, so don’t give me that nonsense. If it’s a situation where you “can’t” because you’re splitting your attention in too many places at once, then I would suggest moving away from the distracting 6″ and 5POA lines and get back to your roots, the traditional scale. We’ve said it until we’re blue in the face. KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. STOP producing things no one wants and START producing what people DO want!

    • CT-7567

Well said. The biggest problem with that low number is Hasbro thinking it’s a good idea to start the line off with repacks.

      • Tyler Frechette

Definitely. I hope the desire and interest in TVC’s return is enough to motivate collectors to buy a “boring” first wave so that product doesn’t stall on the shelves… I have the same fear as everyone else. That it will spell certain death for a wave two. If we all have that fear than we need to acknowledge the implications and suck it up.

        • CT-7567

Agreed. I am, however, getting sick of this whole mentality of having to buy an unwanted first wave to ensure the success of the line. This idea was thrown around when the Walmart line premiered with a first wave of three repacks. I bought Chewbacca because he has a great paint apps, but the 10yr old Vader was insulting and I already had Luke. With TVC, I’ll get the repacks because I want a complete numbered set. I actually liked not having numbering in the Walmart line. I skipped seven figures that I already had. I just wish Hasbro would spread the repacks out instead of using most of them in the first wave. I have a bad feeling that they are going to follow the same pattern as the Walmart TBS, only on vintage cards.

          • Tyler Frechette

No I totally agree, that should not be what has to happen just to keep TVC 2.0 from stalling and failing. It’s sad and more than a little irritating. I guess we have to ask ourselves how much we want this line to succeed.

          • Seronious

Ultimately, it doesn’t come down to repacking figures like Jyn Erso or Rey. What it comes down to is how they are put in a case pack. If they are only packing 15 figures in the first year, then there should be no more than 2 cases! Not 4, not 5, but 2! If they want these to come in, move off the shelves and then put the new stuff on the shelf, they cant load up cases with figures like Rey or Jyn, or else the pegs will jam with them. Although, since Cassian was never widely released, they could probably get away with packing him in both cases, but that’s the only figure that should be done that way.

More than likely though, they willl have 3 or 4 cases for just 15 figures, and it will mess up distribution.

    • Seronious

Ummm…3.75″ SA never went away, and since so many of these are just repackaged BS 3.75″ walmart figures, I don’t see how you can pretend that this is all new, just because it uses a dated homage card as the packaging.

      • Same reason why TBS6 40th anniversary figures did so well. People adore vintage packaging, something younger collectors will never grasp.

        • Seronious

But some of you act like if it’s not on vintage packaging then it’s a lesser form of figure… just like the guy above has done.

In my opinion, the new card art that has been consistent so far over 2 films is at least modern and gives the new figures their own brand that can be associated with the new Star Wars films… The kenner look does not fit very well with Prequel, or new trilogy figures and makes it seem dated.

The 40th is one thing, because those were all figures from the original movie, but repacking Rey or Jyn Erso in that look just seems like a cheap gimmick.

          • This is same reason why you think 6″ is better. I can’t help hysteria.

          • Seronious

            6″ is better… by a long shot.

  • IMPORTANT QUOTE: “It’s one of the reason why we brought it [TVC] back” w(with regards to the cantina, Jabba’s palace, skiff guards) question.

    • shane

Only 15 for the first year. What happened to 25-35 ?

  • Also, there are DEFINITELY more than 15 figures planned. I don’t know why they’re being coy about that….
Unless something has changed that my sources haven’t revealed yet…..

    • Tyler Frechette

Well I certainly hope so because I was admittedly VERY disappointed to hear that.

    • CT-7567

I certainly hope so. Only 15 figures in 2018 that are mostly repacks of epic peg-warmers woukd be disastrous. Makes me think of Movie Heroes.

  • Darth_Rizzen

First of all, thank you Victoria for providing us all with this interview!👍👍

    Much appreciated.😃

    Some quick notes:

    Repacks
I’m glad they’re listening to collectors’ inputs on repacks.
The debate on Shoretrooper vs. Deathtrooper is a bit of a pickle. The most logical repack would be the TBS3.75″ blue line #08 Stormtrooper, since they’re the ones we saw escorting the Assault Tank on Jedha but it seems that the 5POA Rogue One Stormtrooper is considered for a SA redo in TVC2.0… I’m not going to complain, the helmet is top notch!

As a European collector, I’m of course interested in seeing the Shoretroopers and Deathtroopers since they’ve never been released here.
I’d be more interested in the Shoretroopers, but I have to agree that the Occupiers probably weren’t used on Scarif…

    Shrinking down the 6″:
The response may seem frustrating, but it makes perfect sense. Shrinking down a sculpt is easy, but actually working in articulation that will look good and won’t break when you use it is a different matter.

Shrinking down Vader 2.0… Is it really necessary? The ROTS Vader that they made in TBS3.75″ was close to perfect IMHO.

    Playsets
Mr. Evans likes playsets, yay. Not in the same way that Hasbro LOVES Princess Leia, I hope? 😆
    They’ll “consider them”. Mmmmmmkay…
I hope they will consider mixed cardboard/plastic diorama pieces. Victoria’s own Mos Eisley Cantina, Jabba’s Palace or Endor Bunker displays would be good sources of inspiration IMHO.

How about an Emperor’s Throne Room as well?

Mentioned Yak Face and Sim Aloo!
And apparently they are working on updates to Jabba’s palace denizens… And TVC has been resurrected as a means of getting such classic figures on market, as well as realistic TCW figures. Great news!
Please bring all the Imperial dignitaries to TVC 2.0. I most definitely want these guys.

    Distribution and pegwarmers
So… They want to fix it, but I never heard any of them mention the elephant in the room: horrible wave case ratios, with multiple repacks of figures that people aren’t interested in army building.
    I’ll believe there’s a fix when I see it.

    Great interview, again thanks!

BTW, who’s this “Paul” guy they mentioned at the beginning? (joke) 😆

    • General Hux

      Who’s Paul?

      • Darth_Rizzen

A being of great power, it seems.

He has such a knowledge of the Force, he could even keep the toy line we care about… From dying…

    • Tyler Frechette

Totally concur about the TBS ROTS Darth Vader. I have done some simple customizing to get a “Rogue One/ANH” look, and also a more natural inner robe glued over the plastic, since I think it looked weird with a plastic and soft goods combo.

A Death Star throne room playset would be absolutely incredible. I would scoop it up in a heartbeat. One can dream…

      https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3216bf3871262944bbac7902d65fd85f9a6934edd4d3d3c08148e2939d6e1d8b.jpg

      • Darth_Rizzen

Love the custom Vader, especially the soft goods over the armour! 👍👍

        • Tyler Frechette

Thanks man! Not sure why it turned it to the side but oh well… The one on the left is super simple. All it takes is removing the robe from the TBS #03 Darth Vader or TVC ROTJ Darth Vader, which can be removed with relative ease because the breast plate can be popped out in the back of the figures. The one on the right required some more work, cutting to fit the breast plate and under the arms. Both fairly simple projects though, all you need is scissors and a glue gun and the figures to remove the soft goods robes from =)

          • Darth_Rizzen

Thanks for the description of the process. And the inspiration. 😉

          • Tyler Frechette

            Absolutely! Happy to help

          • Tyler, are you a Marine?

          • Tyler Frechette

            I am indeed 🙂

          • My brother is also.

His service to our country is most appreciated and most honorable. Please tell him one of your readers thanks him for his service. 🙂

          • Tyler Frechette

Meant to ask Paul, just out of curiosity, what did/does he do in the Corps?

          • CT-7567

Thank you for your service. 🙂

          • Tyler Frechette

            Thanks brother, it’s a privilege.

          • CT-7567

It’s a privilege to have honorable men and women like you and Paul’s brother protecting our freedom and the safety of all Americans. G*d bless. 🙂

          • Tyler Frechette

G*d bless people like you who still have our backs… Because we have yours =)

          • Mike_5555

My father is a Marine. Thank you for your service.

          • Tyler Frechette

Awesome to see so much support here. Just makes me love this site even more. Tell your father I said Semper Fi!

          • Mike_5555

            I will!

          • Tyler Frechette

What did/does your father do in the Marines?

          • Mike_5555

He worked in communications, I can’t remember the specific MOS off the top of my head. He served for eight years and was a Staff Sergeant when he retired.

          • Tyler Frechette

As an infantryman, comm guys were often right beside us and essential. =) That’s cool.

          • Alientek

Very nice job on both of them. I actually thought you had posed the left one looking down (like he is stepping on Obi-wan’s cloak going ‘what the????’). By no means does the pose look bad.

          • Tyler Frechette

I did do it on purpose. I suppose a more generic pose like the one on the right might have gotten my point across better, but whatevs. This isn’t how they’re normally posed anyway. The one on the right goes with my Empire setup and the one on the left goes with Episodes II and III Anakin to represent the transition =) But thank you!

    • Binary_Son

Think of Paul as The Emperor, seldom (if ever) seen but ultimately controlling events, playing everyone like chess pieces.

      • Darth_Rizzen

Everything is proceeding as he had foreseen, no doubt. 😉

      • Nick Dickens

Mmm indeed, the OT Emperor and not the ROTS Emperor. 😉

  • 40th anniversary wave 2 may be hitting now, but it doesn’t mean it’s still in production!

    • General Hux

TVC is coming back, who cares? 🙂

      • Thats the spirit Huxy!

      • CT-7567

You know the “only 15 figures in 2018 mostly made up of repacks” thing is very bad. Openers are not going to buy repacks for $15 that are rotting in Walmart now for $5. You’re an opener, Hux. Are you going to buy the TFA repacks?

        • General Hux

I will buy many Stormtroopers, another Rey to keep her mask and goggles on, and another Kylo to do a headship with my unmasked Kylo. So yes! I may buy a few to keep on card as well.

          • CT-7567

Would you keep the cards for the ones you open?

          • General Hux

Yup, I’ve kept all the cards since the TFA line, I use a Ledgerman knife to cut the card from the rest of the packaging, it works quite well.

  • Jebediaah

Ok, so I (and Rebelsfangirl) heard “15” figures in 2018. So that’s only 2 assortments in 2018, noting that March or April this TVC2 line hits, and that sounds a little weak but I can’t complain. I wonder if he meant 15 new sculpts, but probably not!

    • Tom P.

Unfortunately it means 15 including the 9 shown at SDCC. 7 of which are repacks.

  • Jawa scavenger

I don’t know, 15 figures for TVC ? And most of them will be repacks and reissues? Not good IMHO. Not sure all that shouting for reissues will not kill the line before it had even a chance to start again. If Finn and Phasma are part of the 15, the line is already dead. I am so eager for new figures, repacks could have come later when the line is running well

  • mic windu

I could talk a taxi dispatcher into a vow of silence, so, Hasbro how when and where are we going to get this conversation started?

  • Branflakes

I would love to see a greatest hits collection! I haven’t had a chance to find the older ones at a good price

  • hammyhamster

    Great questions, Victoria.

Too bad Clone Wars has been swallowed up by Mickey and pretty much won’t see the light of day, but if you like Rebels, sir or ma’am, you are in luck!

It sucks that a superior product had to die for an inferior product to rise.

  • darth gorilladust

    Excellent interview. Thank you Victoria.

  • DarthSharky

Only 15 figures a year has dampened my excitement a little bit, especially since there’s so many repacks. I wasn’t expecting 60, maybe around 24.

  • Mother_Talzin

Good job Victoria – shame to hear about Bistan and Fenn Rau, they wont be coming out until 2018 – and they seemed uncertain even saying that. I hope they read these comments and know how disappointed collectors are when a figure like Fenn Rau isn’t distributed in the US at all, though this is the country of origin for the series. He’s a cool mando and appeals to not only collectors but countless kids that had zero chance to own one…

  • Art

Only 15 figures in 2018????!!!! It’s going to be YEARS before we even get all of the original ANH figs/cards released, which is now looking less and less likely that it will ever happen.

  • Boba Fettuccini

Only 15 first year? :/ Seeing that half of those are stuff I already have from TBS… that’s supremely disappointing. I think they should shoot for closer to 25. Buuuuuut there *is* the fact that we’re getting the Rhino tank, so there is that to look forward to.

    • CT-7567

If they are 15 all-new figures that might be acceptable. 15 figures mostly comprised TBS peg-warmers? That’s the kind of disappointment I’m used to getting from Hasbro. This is very bad news. The new TVC needs to be successful at launch. If it’s only 15 figures that are mostly repacks a lot of people aren’t going to buy them. I go by the rule if two. Normally I’d just skip the Walmart repacks, but because it’s TVC I would get one of each to keep MOC. The new figures will be bought twice. My point is that a lot of openers that don’t care about keeping carded samples are just going pass on the repacks. A new line should start with new figures.

  • John Morin

Hasbro, that is an amazing tank you have made, very impressive. Thank You very much for the 3.75 SA Vintage Collection action figures. I’m happy there’s no nerf features with this tank, & Hasbro please give it all the detailing you can. One last thought, could you make a K2SO Droid in the 3.75 that would be awesome.

  • Barney Dunn

We will get to this and we will get to that. This is the same thing they say in every comic-con interview. Rather they just say No then to say well, we will get to it.

    • Tyler Frechette

      Politics…

  • James

When is Captain Rex release? Force Friday?

    • No way. I wouldn’t expect him before Fall 2018.

    • Funtomaz

Rex has the new digital face printing technology, this will be introduced spring 2018, so spring 2018 is the earliest we can get him. Probably later.

  • Joshua Decker

Wouldn’t it be just as likely for an Assault Tank to be on Scarif, as a Deathtrooper on Jedha? Ohh well. They’ll get to it, at least they are thinking about what goes with what in a wave. Instead of complete randomness.

  • Gloriouscollector

A release of an EP. 4 Luke,Leia,Jawa, yes please make this happen!!!!

  • I was mild cosplaying as Marty McFly. No one seemed to get it!

    • Nick Dickens

      I did 🙂

  • localfromiskalon

Thank you for doing this, Victoria. Great interview!

  • Darth Awesome

It would be awesome if the 6 inch line could get some skiff Gaurds and aliens! Definitely excited for Tarkin and the Fleet Trooper. Also while the 40th packaging was great, I hope its success is not a major factor in relegating Dengar and crew to 2020 to capitalize on Empire 40th if they make another go at it.

  • Fiery Little One

I could get behind the 6″ reissues. I’ve dipped into the older stuff I missed only once so far, the Emperor. I got lucky in that the price asked wasn’t as far off of what Canada is paying for the current figures. That said, I know some of the older stuff cost an arm and a leg so getting them without that worry would be nice.

  • Faust

I wonder if playsets are being considered for the 3.75″ line (which makes sense) or the 6″ line (which would take up lots of store inventory and shelf space).
I loved lots of the smaller POTF2 sets like the Detention Block Rescue, Endor Attack, and Hoth Attack because they make for great little instant diorama set ups. Even the cardboard Cantina and Jabba’s Palace were really great for inexpensive ways to display collections.
It’d be great if they would remake playsets like Detention Block Rescue, but make it more screen accurate and able to connect to other sets like a Detention Block control room, or the Trash Compactor. The Endor Attack set is one of their best efforts, but if it were a little bigger and had the interior control room of the Shield Generator behind the blast doors, that would be fantastic.

Things I’d love to see would be a DS2 Throne Room, Star Destroyer Bridge, maybe a rerelease of the Jedi Council chamber on Coruscant or a new version of Yoda’s home on Dagobah.
How cool would it be to be able to assemble a large Death Star playset out of smaller, connectable playsets? There are just so many possibilities of things they can do, my mind races with ideas.

    • ashmodai

I think the way they answered we are going to get some type of playsets. That alone is exciting. They Really need to update the emperors throne.

      • Faust

Yes, but will they be for the 6″ or 3.75″ figures? That was my question. I’m excited for them being made for 3.75″ figures, 6″ not so much.

        • ashmodai

I’m thinking for the 3.75 inch figures.

  • JediJones

15 is a really light amount of figures. That takes the steam out of this whole relaunch for me for the time being. I agree with someone suggesting that 30 would be a more appropriate amount for the first year of a line that isn’t a totally new concept, it has a history. Especially after using the same style packaging on the 40th figures just increased demand volcanically.

    • CT-7567

15 including the repacks. So maybe five or six new figures in 2018? If there’s only going to be 15 figures next year they should hold off on the repacks.

    • shane

      At least 24, geez, that’s only 2 a month.

  • Batta Man

Great questions! Was very happy to hear that aliens from jabba’s and the cantina might be seen. That’s the two areas I would love if they make every single character..

  • Wayne Collins

    Great interview.

ALl I can add is, Case Assortment, Case Assortment, Case assortment. That is the main thing Hasbro needs to focus on. Peg warming will happen, if they release the same figures in 3 out of 4 assortments, whether it will be 3.75 or 6 inch.

We can all call them before they happen. Why can’t Hasbro. Until they sort this out, “the flow” will not happen. I give you TLJ peg warmers, Snowtrooper, At-At Driver, Kylo Ren.

Had Hasbro stuck in a Boba Fett instead of Snowtrooper, and Bossk instead of AT-AT Driver, repacked Luke instead of Kylo, then Hasbro would see “the flow”, and the repacks would almost outsell the new figures!! All the time they repack figures from the last couple of waves, they will sit on the pegs! Surely Hasbro must have released this by now!

  • CT-7567

Excellent coverage. Great work, Victoria and JTA!

  • shane

Thank you Victoria, you did one heck of a job. You owned it with Hasbro !

  • RumSleg

Victoria – I have to ask – is that an Indiana Jones fedora you’re wearing in that picture? That would be so cool…

    • I was cosplaying as Marty McFly in his undercover outfit from BTTF2.

      • RumSleg

Awesome. Here’s where I shamefully confess my ignorance – I’ve seen BTTF a dozen times but never seen part 2, so I didn’t recognize the rest of the outfit. 🙁

        • Oh wow! Well, the first is the best as is often the case with franchise films. But the other two are worth watching at least once. The second is very enjoyable in particular.

  • chad

So, wave 2 is hitting stores right now, where? Well, TRU has removed any trace of the black series 40th and they have not seen wave 2 at all. Spoke to the Regional Manager of our TRU and there is nothing he con do. A few Walmarts got in one case each and Target is getting bits and pieces of the wave.

  • Diego

Is it just me or are their faces saying “You’re going to hate us next year, prepare for disappointment.” Or maybe it’s a look of shame or embarrassment? I can’t put my finger on it. They seem like nice enough guys otherwise. I’d really like to hear more about distribution though as has been said over and over. What’s the point of parading all these great toys, no matter the scale, if they are impossible to find. I’m not even into the 5poa but I’ll say it again for my son’s sake, how can you not ship out the Bohdi/Thrawn wave? Thrawn-major character on Rebels!!! Only one online retailer had him as far as I can tell, Walmart, when Paul posted the alert one day. It has never been in stock anywhere else as far as I can tell-not Hasbro Toy Shop, their eBay store, Amazon. Brick & mortar? Never saw it though I’ve heard a report that one local Walmart had the wave at one point. Why, if there are no solid cases, have all the other figures from the Fenn Rau wave made it online but him?
Can someone please do some ‘splainin.
